Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Rasener Date: 16 Feb 07 - 01:57 AM Spot on Strollin' :-) That is a nice song Rockhen. Taxis cruise the late night bars round and round on and on He has so many nice songs Roll On The Day - Who sings this wonderful song besides Allan Jimmy's Song - Who sings this wonderful song besides Allan 2 incredilble songs and both of them heart wrenching and true of life. Better put loads of tissues out for the night. What is your favourite song by Allan Taylor and why? |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 17 Feb 07 - 12:31 AM Hope you mean to mop up tears! And yes it will be nice to hear all his songs done properly. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: the fence Date: 17 Feb 07 - 02:40 AM Define 'properly' Tim. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Rasener Date: 17 Feb 07 - 02:52 AM >>Hope you mean to mop up tears<< Don't remember him doing that one Tim :-) |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 17 Feb 07 - 07:50 AM I mean the writer performing them. And wearing pants. And would like to hear the guy before deciding if I like what he does. I think someone can be too well trumpeted before he gets a chance to do his stuff for those of us who have no idea who he is. The trouble when you have only heard covers is the voice of the writer is overwritten by the interpretation of whoever heard enough in the original to want to attach something of their own to it. I am sure you will clean up on the night V so take plenty of tissues. Especialy for the back row. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Rasener Date: 17 Feb 07 - 05:23 PM You can listen to his songs on his website Tim. I have never seen him live, but I have met so many people who think he is great, Including G & T and Strollin' - thats good enough for me. I have listened to his songs and I really like them. G & T and Strollin'do a song or 2 of his. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 17 Feb 07 - 05:39 PM That is fine mate but I prefer to make up own mind as I think music is purely a matter of personael taste. The guy has a great rep and so many people cover his stuff that he must be well worth a listen. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Rasener Date: 17 Feb 07 - 05:47 PM I reckon so. I played "Its good to see you" by AT to my missus and asked her who it was, and she said Don Williams. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: the fence Date: 17 Feb 07 - 05:52 PM Interesting Tim, the reason I asked is that a performer who plays regularly at Market Rasen performs a cover version of a particular song. On the night that particular song was performed by the person who wrote it, I heard several people say they thought that it didn't sound right and one person remarked that it wasn't sung properly. I suppose that was because they were so used to hearing it sung by someone else as a cover. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Rasener Date: 17 Feb 07 - 06:05 PM Thats the trouble Fence. How many times do you hear somebody say - and this is an Allan Taylor song either at GFC or FL (MRFC) and then when you hear the person who wrote it sing it, you are probably influenced by the locals version. I said that about WinterWilson and Storm Around Tumbledown. Should have said Come and hear WinterWilson sing Storm Around Tumbledown which was written by them. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Tim theTwangler Date: 17 Feb 07 - 06:41 PM Yup is a quandary innit? I suppose before we had access to websites and recorded music we would still have heard covers? I am only too pleased when people want to play/sing my stuff and have enjoyed the weirdfeeling I get from hearing them. Gotta french bloke interested in a couple at the moment and waiting to see how he arranges them. He is a superb guitar player so looking forward to hearing him perform them one day. I have had the experience of over hearing people discussing the meaning behind one of mine and I must say I was very impressed at the hidden story I had told each of them. Both entirely different and both news to me. Wish I had really got the intelect they credited me with but was just a bunch of words that said what they said. |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: Rasener Date: 18 Feb 07 - 03:47 AM They are probably able to associate the lyrics to things that have happened in their life Twangy. Pick the best story and stick to it :-) |
Subject: RE: AllanTaylor Faldingworth Live Sat 3/3/07 From: jiva Date: 18 Feb 07 - 05:42 PM How many covers of It's Good To See You? Quote from the 2006/7 re-designed Allan Taylor Songbook Vol 1 (now available on line from his website and at his gigs): To date (2006) there are 55 cover versions of this song, in 8 different languages. For a complete discography of Allan's CD and album releases throughout the world, visit http://home.arcor.de/kai63/ataylor.html . This website has been prepared by Kai-Uwe Willems who has the most complete collection of Allan's CDs and albums including special editions from various parts of the world, including demo tapes and first mixes etc. We (jiva) cover three of Allan's Songs: Back Again We Must Journey On Jimmy's Song - heartfelt, gut-wrenching (especially beautiful is the version on the vinyl 'Where Would You Rather Be Tonight' album) Favourite Allan Taylor Song? Standing At The Door - brings Jimmy to tears every time! But... just wait till you hear 'Almost Man' - brand new, as yet unrecorded. The thing about Allan's songs, and the reason why they appeal, is that people can relate to them... change a few placenames and it could be you or me or us in the songs. Shame we can't make Faldingworth - but we do have him booked at Ashington Folk Club for November 15th! Jimmy & Val (jiva) www.jiva.co.uk |
