Subject: Songs About Dogs From: GUEST,Nick Date: 13 Feb 07 - 08:27 PM Just watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show tonight and it makes me wonder about dog songs. Other than the one with the lyrics Me and You and a Dog Named Boo, and B-I-N-G-O can't think of other dog songs, but no doubt you guys can. Was there ever one written about Balto for instance? Nick

Subject: RE: Songs About Dogs From: Genie Date: 13 Feb 07 - 09:09 PM Don't we already have a thread about dog songs? I seem to recall posting some titles, such as Spike Jones's "Our Hour (The Puppy Love Song)" and the kids' song "I Wanna Be a Dog." A Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter named Bill Imhoff (I think he's the one) has a hilarious song called "Dog At The Wheel," and a wonderful Portland musician and songwriter named Lon Jones wrote and recorded a great one called "When Dogs Dream." There are a lot of traditional songs which will certainly come to mind: Here are a couple for starters: Old Blue They Gotta Quit Kickin' My Dawg Aroun' And then there are a ton of songs that mention dogs: My Dog's Bigger Than Your Dog, by Tom Paxton And probably another ton of songs more recently written that are either about dogs, or have a dog as a central character in the story. I used to kid around that I could do a whole workshop on songs about dogs. Here are three that I've written and recorded. I'm sure other songwriters can add their own songs to the list. Rosco.. Subject: RE: Songs About Dogs From: wysiwyg Date: 13 Feb 07 - 11:03 PM Here's the best I can do to recall the Pedigree ad that's made me cry every single time I've seen it. It was just on, again, and it ought to be a song. It's a short one, about 15 seconds, but it doesn't seem to go by fast. All the camera shots are beautifully-shot closeups of expressive dogs' faces, one at a time, as they look up from their pens at a shelter with those intelligent, hopeful, wise eyes. Mutts, with that dignity so many of them have. During the series of shots, the voiceover [a man speaking the dogs' thoughts]: I know how to sit...., lie down...., and roll over.... . I don't know what I'm doing here.... But I know that I am a Good Dog..., And I just want to go home. And then the Pedigree logo comes up and there's a brief reminder that with every purchase, they make a donation to support dog shelters. That really ought to be a song. ~Susan |

Grannie, will your dog bite?" No, Chile, no!" -snip- I found a more complete version of this song in Thomas W. Talley's 1922 book "Negro Folk Songs" : "Auntie, will your dog bite"- "No, Chile, No!"
