"Last month, Kyuma irked the U.S. administration by saying the United States was wrong to start the war in       Iraq. He also criticized Washington's handling of the relocation of a U.S. base in Japan."

"Kyuma has angered the United States with a string of comments over the past few months.

As well as saying Washington was wrong to go to war in Iraq he also criticized it for not having a post-war gameplan. He later played down his comments, saying they might have appeared stronger than intended in translation."

"Aso has also criticized U.S. policy in Iraq, with media reports last week quoting him as saying U.S. actions after the initial fighting in 2003 were 'immature.'"

What exactly did these guys say that gives the U.S. the right to feel it has been slighted?

Can't face the truth?

*sigh* "The US" doesn't feel slighted...those $#&&%%*! in charge maybe do. I know, it's technically the same for 'news' purposes, but those of us who KNOW the war was started on flawed premises like to not be associated with the idiocy going on at the moment.

I wonder how "slighted" they would feel by being brought to trial as war criminals in an international court?

There seems to be some sort of belief in Washington that if we don't "recognize" things, ideas or nations, they don't exist. Like Iran. Or Americans opposed to the war in Iraq..

I wonder how slighted they'd feel if the Japanese were to tell Cheney, "Sorry, but the entire government of Japan is going to be on holiday during your visit. You're welcome to come visit. Eat some sushi, see a few sights, but don't plan on any high level meetings."

Better yet. Japan should halt trade with the U.S.

Japan freezes assets related to Iran

TOKYO (AP) -- The Japanese government has decided to freeze the assets of 10 groups and 12 individuals related to Iran's nuclear and missile programs, under a UN sanction resolution approved in December.

"We must execute the measures with a determined will and resolve because (the Iranian nuclear problem) affects the nuclear non-proliferation regime and North Korea's nuclear problem," Foreign Minister Taro Aso told reporters after the cabinet approved the measures.

The Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also decided to ban transfer of funds in connection with Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

The measures will become effective today.

Japan, despite being a close U.S. ally, has maintained close trade ties with Iran. Asia's largest economy is almost entirely dependent on the Middle East for its oil, and imports about 15 percent of its total oil consumption from Iran.

Last year, the UN Security Council unanimously approved a resolution imposing sanctions that target Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
