"Canadian researchers have helped uncover 15 new bird species through a process of genetic testing they say will pave the way for cataloguing the world's organisms.

The discovery of so many new species was made possible after analyzing and comparing the DNA genetic "bar codes" of 643 North American bird species."

Now that is interesting. I think it'll take the scanner technology a hwile to catch up, but it would sure take a lot of the arguing out of birdwatching.

Dunno about the impact on grocers.

Nah, not really - with today's technology minute amounts of nuclear material can be amplified by a technique called "Polymerase Chain Reaction" to obtain sufficient DNA to type a person's, or animal's genome. Apparently, the residual saliva on a cigarette butt is adequate.
