Subject: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: ranger1 Date: 24 Feb 07 - 03:34 PM First, thanks to everyone who sent hugs, support, PMs, e-mails, peoms, stories and advice when Clancy died. It really meant a lot to Jason and me to have that. He was a wonderful dog and we miss him. We miss him so much, that we started looking two weeks ago for another canine companion. As of yesterday, our application to adopt Bandit has been approved and we will pick him up next Saturday when the next transport from Tennessee comes to New England. My gramma always said the best thing to do to honor your dog is to get another one. Thanks for the advice, Gramma! |

He sounds like a really sweet guy (and he looks cute, too), I'm sure you deserve one another. A big hug from this side of the Great Pond. Best wishes, Bente (and dachshund Milloup) |

Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: SINSULL Date: 24 Feb 07 - 04:12 PM Will bandit join us for breakfast when John Roberts is in town? I know a certain yellow lab who will be thrilled to have a buddy at Aunt Mary's. Good for you, Jason and Tami. He is beautiful. SINS |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Jeri Date: 24 Feb 07 - 04:13 PM Tami, that's great, and he looks like a real sweetie. I can't wait to meet the new pack member! He'll know Clancy a little. His scent is still around. When/if you bring Bandit to Mary's, he'll know it's a good place because it will smell like you and Clancy, and maybe Jason, and those smells are 'home' smells. |

Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Feb 07 - 06:29 PM He is a lucky dog--but that does seem to be a lot of work to get an animal? Aren't there dogs in New England also needing to be adopted? What was the attraction to a program in Tennessee? I'm just curious. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Micca Date: 24 Feb 07 - 07:03 PM Hey .Tami, couldnt you get a SMALLER one that isn't going to make my leg go Numb in the truck???The way Clancy used to, the huffling in my ear I (sorta) got used to. ( kidding really, Bandit looks like fun, and maybe another "thinking persons dog" the way Clancy certainly was) Micca |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Jeri Date: 24 Feb 07 - 07:11 PM I'd never heard of the PetFinder site before this. What a great idea! It looks like any shelter can list their adoptees so there are loads more animals a person can choose from. Like a a job-finder site or a dating agency. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Bee Date: 24 Feb 07 - 07:23 PM Petfinder is a great site in many ways - just steer clear of most of the forums. There are hundreds of people posting there who definitely have sad-eyed puppy paintings on velvet hanging in their living rooms, and more than a few of them have no.sense.of.humour.at.all. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Peace Date: 24 Feb 07 - 08:50 PM They must have a sense of humour if they have paintings on velvet on their walls . . . . |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: kendall Date: 24 Feb 07 - 08:56 PM Good. He is young enough to romp with Seamus. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Bee Date: 24 Feb 07 - 10:33 PM Peace... they don't think the paintings are funny. {:-o |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Peace Date: 24 Feb 07 - 10:37 PM Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh. Thank you. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Peace Date: 24 Feb 07 - 11:12 PM So yer saying they wouldn't find the Larsen cartoon (dog in car telling dog friend outside that first he's going shopping, then he's going to the vets to be tutored)--yer really saying those folks on that site wouldn't find that funny, right? (Sorry for the Drift, Ranger1. I just need some clarification here.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Bee Date: 24 Feb 07 - 11:17 PM That would likely be accurate. (I miss Larsen... and Kliban.. and Gahan Wilson...) To be fair, some very informed people post in the petcare forum. It's the general and animal forums that get weird. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Peace Date: 24 Feb 07 - 11:47 PM OK. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: GUEST,KT Date: 25 Feb 07 - 04:10 AM Great news Tami! He's a beaut! He looks like the adult version of the one I was eyeballing in the llbean catalogue recently. Someday.... Have a grand time getting acquainted! KT |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: kendall Date: 25 Feb 07 - 07:37 AM Herman was one of the best cartoons ever. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: jacqui.c Date: 25 Feb 07 - 08:34 AM Tami told me that there is a shortage of dogs for adoption in northern New England. That's why they went to this website. Congratulations Tami - he looks lovely. I'm sure that Seamus will love to meet him, when he's settled in. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: catspaw49 Date: 25 Feb 07 - 09:11 AM I'm happy for all! BTW, I made a few runs for the Weimaraner Rescue Railroad transporting Rescues to their new forever homes. Sometimes, thanks to the net, you find the ideal dog too far away to simply drive there to get. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: ranger1 Date: 25 Feb 07 - 10:24 AM Hey all, thanks for the good wishes. We had some real specific needs in a dog that none of the dogs in the local shelters met. For example, the only dog in the Portland shelter last week was a pitbull. And, much as I do love the breed, my renter's insurance would have had a serious issue with it, not to mention my landlord. Getting the whole combination of good with cats, little kids and other dogs is tough. Bandit fits all three criteria, and well, we're suckers for generic yellow dogs, what can I say? And it kind of worked out like Spaw said... |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Gizmo Date: 25 Feb 07 - 10:47 AM Brilliant news Ranger. He looks sooooooooooooooooooo adorable. I'm now gonna have a look at some others - for research purposes only mind............ |

Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Col K Date: 25 Feb 07 - 08:10 PM Great news for you and Jason. I am sure that your new housemate will soon settle in and become the boss. May you have a long and happy life together, lots of love Col |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: SINSULL Date: 26 Feb 07 - 07:39 AM Uncle Micca has a special surprise planned for the Bandit. Be forewarned. I on the other hand will buy him a steak and promise not to overcook it. Auntie SINS |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Micca Date: 26 Feb 07 - 09:14 AM Tami, dont take ANY notice of that Sinsull woman!! she is lying in her teeth, and probably not telling the truth also!!! Like would I plan a diabolical surprise for you????,(shuffles feet, whistles tunelessly while looking every where but in your eyes) |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: kendall Date: 26 Feb 07 - 09:36 AM I only know personally, two Pit Bulls, and they are both very loving animals. The reason, their OWNERS are the same way. It's not the breed, it's the idiots who need this sort of dog to feel like men, so they make them mean. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Tinker Date: 26 Feb 07 - 09:41 AM Congrats Tami (and give Jason a hug) !!!! He looks like a dear. I'm just going to have to get up there again and now I have another reason.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Peace Date: 26 Feb 07 - 12:38 PM "I'm looking forward to meeting Bandit. I don't suppose they'd allow him in the Press Room, would they?" Someone wear black sunglasses, call him/herself Blind Orange Railroad and Bandit WILL get in. |

Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Ferrara Date: 26 Feb 07 - 02:39 PM This is great Tami. Your gramma was a wise woman. So are you, to find exactly the dog you need. Good luck to you and Bandit, Rita |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Becca72 Date: 26 Feb 07 - 03:32 PM Many congrats to you and Jason. He is a real looker that Bandit. I hope to meet him sometime soon. and Peace, thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite Far Side cartoons. When I took my 2 male kittens in to be fixed last August I told them they were going to the vet to be "tutored". They didn't get it, but it certainly made me giggle. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: Peace Date: 26 Feb 07 - 03:52 PM I told myself a half dozen times after various pets died that I'd never get another. Then some ugly stray would wander over, or some ratty starving thing would limp into view, or, or, or. I have rarely carried a gun so shooting the damned things was out. So, OK, ONE meal and hit the road. OK, you can stay the night, but tomorrow you go to the SPCA. OK, I don't have time to get you there just now, BUT, don't think you're staying for long. Then someone says, "Hey, man, that dog is UGly." (Yeah, but you say that again and he'll chomp yer parts for ya.) Then a few weeks have passed and he's learned not to piss on the floor, fetch a sock, be nice to folks. Then the fu#kin' thing is there seven years later and ya wonder how you ever lived without him. He's the dog that was seen humping a fire hydrant a few blocks away, and you find out that he's knocked up someone's pedigree poodle and the owners are pissed off, and he shows up after being 'out' for two days--no doubt knocking up someone ELSE'S pedigree poodle (or fire hydrant)--and he smells like he's been rolling in dead fish, and lo, he HAS been rolling in dead fish. He knows what the word 'bath' means, and catching him is a chore and a half. The same damned dog that doesn't understand 'sit', 'come' (in the sense of over here. He obviously knew what it meant when it involved pedigree poodles fer krissake) or 'stay' has a handle on soap, bath, tub. Sheesh. Anyway, never again. Never. Absolutely NEVer. Period. And that's final. I am NOT kidding. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ranger1 has good news From: jacqui.c Date: 27 Feb 07 - 03:35 AM LOL Peace. |
