Subject: RE: Tune Req: Stay all night, stay a little longer From: Azizi Date: 25 Feb 07 - 08:11 PM There's a Zydeco version of this song "Dance All Night, Stay A Little Longer". A sound clip of it is found here: http://www.amazon.com/Dance-All-Night-Chubby-Carrier/dp/B000000N8L #3 on that list. I've got this song on a Zydeco compilation CD {somewhere}, and it's tempo is not as fast as the version on the sound clip whose link I've posted. Here's part of the lyrics to this song: STAY A LITTLE LONGER Dance all night, stay a little longer {3x} Can't see why you can't stay a little longer. Take off your shoes, throw them in the corner {3x} Can't see why you can't stay a little longer. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Stay all night, stay a little longer From: Gypsy Date: 25 Feb 07 - 08:13 PM Thanks all! Lessee: no high speed, too far from the hub. And could really use spots if i can find them.........writing notation is VERY slow for me LOL! and still wretched at ear playing. Oh yeah, and yes, i do believe that it is the Bob Wills (aaaaaaaaaah haaaa!) version that i am looking for. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Stay all night, stay a little longer From: Azizi Date: 25 Feb 07 - 08:15 PM Interesting that the Bob Willis version says "pull off your coat put it in the corner" {I think those are the lyrics} while that line in the Zydeco version is "Take off your shoes, throw them in the corner". |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Stay all night, stay a little longer From: rich-joy Date: 25 Feb 07 - 08:30 PM I recall it being in SingOut! magazine, many moons ago ... and Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, with Robin & Linda Williams, did a nice harmony version that my a cappella harmony groups have used to sign off at concerts ... Cheers! R-J |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Stay all night, stay a little longer From: dick greenhaus Date: 26 Feb 07 - 12:23 AM The tune usually used is a slight variant of Old Dan Tucker. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Stay all night, stay a little longer From: melodeonboy Date: 26 Feb 07 - 05:08 AM Just a small point that may be of interest to linguists and musicologists: In the Boozoo Chavis zydeco version referred to by Azizi above, I'm sure he sings "Take off your drawers/shoes, throw IT in the corner". If I'm right, is that just a stylistic device to fit in with the other singular nouns in the song, or could it be linguistic interference from Cajun French? Any ideas? (Or is it just that my hearing's faulty?) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Stay all night, stay a little longer From: Inukshuk Date: 26 Feb 07 - 05:30 PM There's a fairly straightforward arrangement with some tasty variations in "The Bob Wills Fiddle Book" (Creative Concepts Publishing Corporation, 410 Bryant Circle, Box 848, Ojai, California 93024). Words are included. The book is fifteen years old and I got it at the local music store. If you are really stuck I could scan it for you. |
