Does anyone have records of the boats built by Walkers of Rickmasworth during the 1930's?
I'm particularly looking for the 65 (?) wooden six plank 'big rickey' butty boats, but any info would be greatly apprieciated.
Also if anyone knows of any of the six plank butties that still exist I would REALLY appriciate knowing!

There is an article at this link

http://www.mortonsmedia.net/webdata/pdfs/tpt/tpt-11may06.pdf

get over to the right hand side of the page and scroll down until you see the following

11 May2006, issue4 TOWPATHTALK 9

Scrolldown a bit further and you will find an article headed as

More memories from the archives of Jim Payler

Talks about the big ricky boat.

If it is the one, maybe Towpathtalk can help you further.

Alas Walkers yard is now a Tesco store which has a few blow ups of the yard on the walls. Not sure of what butties may be remaining but you could try enquiring at the Batchworth Canal Centre which is just a few yards away. Alternatively have a look at www.narrowboatworld.com and send them an e-mail asking for this information. One of the readers may well know the answer. The British Waterways Musuem at Stoke Bruerne is worth a go too.

You could also try Googling for historic narrowboat sites. There are quite a lot out there.

Is the traffic still as bad in Rickmansworth in rush hour?

Used to have to travel from Bracknell to Rickmansworth every day for 2 years. That slow crawl into Rickmansworth and up the lane was aweful.

Is there still a canal festival in Ricky in May? Used to coincide with the steam on the Met line weekend, and singing in the White Bear (near the Walkers/ Tesco site).
