Subject: RE: BS: Blair invites Mudcat to form government From: Rasener Date: 08 Mar 07 - 07:24 AM I would like to be in charge of getting rid of all red tape/political correctness/form filling department. The money saved from getting rid of all these would then go to getting Matron's re-installed in all our hospitals and providing money for more nurses and doctors. I would make teachers teach instead of having to form fill. All folk clubs would get funded for all acts that they put on so that we can create more jobs for performers. I would abolish all the stupid laws that stop live music. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blair invites Mudcat to form government From: Rasener Date: 08 Mar 07 - 07:30 AM Oh I forgot Bring back Law & order and give police the authority to deal with all people who don't want to conform with a peaceful and happy UK I would bring back enforced military service for all ASBO's and all teenagers when they reach the age of 16 for 2 years military service. I would close all pubs where they can't keep drunken loutishness under order. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blair invites Mudcat to form government From: Scrump Date: 08 Mar 07 - 10:06 AM Some good suggestions Villan. I think all teenagers should be served with ASBOs as soon as they reach their 13th birthday. This will help ensure they behave, while at the same time remove the cachet that ASBOs have among teenagers as a "badge of honour". If they all have them, the yobs won't think it's 'cool' to have one and won't bother to deliberately flout the law to 'prove' themselves to their pals, as I understand many do now. As for criminals, all criminals should have to repay all costs associated with their crime in full. This includes the cost of stolen items (cars, etc.); repairing damaged property; compensation to victims awarded by courts for distress caused; police time to investigate/detect/arrest the criminals; cost of the legal proceedings; and cost of accommodation in jail. If they can't pay immediately, they will have property removed by distraint (by bailiffs, etc.), and if they don't have the money or property, they should have to pay it back in instalments once they complete their sentence, if necessary by deductions from their benefits. If students have to pay for their education and get into debt for several years afterwards, I don't see why criminals should get off without paying a penny like they do now. Perhaps some of them might even think twice before committing crimes in the first place, if they knew they would have to pay financially. There's nothing like hitting someone in the wallet to get a message across, in this day and age. That was a party political broadcast on behalf of the extremely moderate party :-) |

Let's try it. << If only :-) Scrump Good point that - if all tenneagers had an ASBO, they wouldn't need to be an ASBO Just think of all these ASBO's helping everybody and never swearing and and and |
Subject: RE: BS: Blair invites Mudcat to form government From: Scrump Date: 08 Mar 07 - 10:53 AM I would threaten all pubs that don't have at least one folk session a week, with closure. That would make some of them get their act together. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blair invites Mudcat to form government From: Rapparee Date: 08 Mar 07 - 10:23 PM If they can't pay, they can work the debt off working for the State. Live in a barracks, costs deducted from earnings. Ditto food, clothing, medical care beyond the minimum, and personal hygiene. Out AT work at 0800, lunch 1200-1230, work 1230 to 1830, two 15 minute breaks per day. Minimum wages, deposited directly to the various accounts. If you want something you pay in cash, deducted from your account. Harsh? Sure is. It's one step above temporary slavery and it's intended to be. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blair invites Mudcat to form government From: akenaton Date: 09 Mar 07 - 07:11 AM Seems like most of the suggestions here would provide a most conventional government. Pretty much between Dems and Pubs, Labs and Cons. To fit into that space we'll all have to go on a strict diet....Ake |
