Hi Guru - Have a good un tonight - unfortunately, it's too far for me to venture out on a Monday night

I got an e-mail from Joan a couple of weeks ago - she sounded well and said she is mostly into eastern european folk tunes

I'm not really interested in a permathread unless Joe insisted

We're only 12 threads a year

Hi - what a lot on.

Goodness! These are not just threads - they are historical evidence - available for future generations when browsing our history.

Only a few months ago Captain Kirk used this thread to check out a few old customs to update his log.

He wanted to go where no one had been before.

Is that Uhura PA?

To get into Star Fleet Command, you have to sing 'star trekkin' across the universe' with actions, in a folk venue. Not a lot of people have managed it that way yet.

Alternatively, you beam up somewhere.

What a joint venture -
'Sounds like a boarding party' said Scottie.

I have changed my own favourite saying from a cynical February's 'Everyone's got their own agenda' to a more upbeat March one 'That's another one in the bag, Mum'. (this quote from my son after we played Coldplay's 'The Scientist' together - he doesn't tell his friends though).

Do any of you have a favourite expression at the moment? I bet Scrump's is ' a pint please'

According to my 16 year old lad the latest expression is 'get over'. We now seem to have lost the 'yourself' 'it' options.
My son doesnt admit that I'm his mom, he tells people he's an orphan. Its probably got something to do with the way I dress when I pick him up from various locations. (we dont have many buses). Crappie trackies, trainers, hair in a mess. Or various items of gardening/cleaning/riding clothes. I only do it to wind him up, its worth it just for the expression on his face. I've even been known to change OUT of decient clothes just to collect him. Who says old people cant have fun !!

Looks like I won't be appearing at the Orange Tree mini-fest thingy then - hope it goes well anyway. I'm on there tonight though, supporting Julie Felix (anyone remember her, or are you all too young?) - it should be OK to mention it here because it's all-ticket and sold out. Ooerr, a bit nervous now - better learn the words to the songs I suppose...

Glad you had a good time at the Bull last night. My support bit went fairly well (considering it was me doing it! :-)), and Julie even thanked me for my contribution from the 'stage' (I know there's not really a stage at the Orange Tree, but you know what I mean!). She was really good and what's more, she's a really nice person too.

It was good to see the Ref there, and a few other familiar faces.

I'm looking forward to it

I'm looking forward to seeing you there too Ross.

The Orange Tree has more of a fireplace than a stage - you have to be careful in winter not to fall backwards :-)

It's an intimate venue, to say the least. I like it for that reason though - it's great to see the likes of Martin Carthy, John Kirkpatrick, or Jez Lowe (and of course, Julie Felix) in a small room like that.

I'm here keeping an eye on you all. Son's been excluded from school for 5 days for fighting during a rugby match. The story goes that there a drugs in school my son would not get involved and after months on taunting by some others he had a 'conversation' with his year tutor. Thus at the next rugby game he guessed something would kick off, it did literally, so good old Tim got in first and threw the first punch. Unfortunatly the other lad finished up with two black eyes and a broken nose. We have a meeting with his head teacher at 3 today. Just hoping we can get him back into school for Tuesday as its his first GCSE exam, maths. Fighting is totally out of character for Tim but he just wanted to defend himself. I've told him that when you put your head above the parapet you're likely to get shot at, but we support him 100%.

Crikey PA - I hope everything worked out

I visit schools to do building estimates and they still seem to be war zones despite all our touchy/feely mentality

It's no wonder society suffers, when all our social skills are learnt in such places

I hope Tim's not been too battered for sticking up for himself

Have a good weekend everybody

Hi Gang - The meeting in school resulted in all four of the lads being sent for anger management classes !!! (for a punch up on a rugby field - yee gods what ever next!) The other lads mother is still intent on taking us to court for assult and wants to school to back her. The reason behind the punch-up seems to have taken a back seat (they patrol the school grounds and would know if that type of thing was happening in their school you know - yeh right) and Tim and the battered lad are the best of friends! The Board of Goveners meets this week, and Tim and I have to report back to school on Tuesday next week. I suppose the good news is that he can go in tomorrow for his maths GCSE and back full time on Wednesday. If he doesnt get an A* after all this revision time I'll bash him myself.
Cathie - it was so tempting to do a cross between Vickey Pollard and Pat Butcher, but i behaved and popped me suit on.

Watched the rugby - hooray

There was some confusion about the date, because the Wymondley gigs are normally on Fridays. I had to ask him myself, because it was on a list of "Friday" gigs at the Bucks Head, and I pointed out that Friday was the 16th not the 17th.

But I am assured that the gig will actually take place on St Patrick's Day itself, Saturday 17th. (I assume the pub must have decided that it would be better to have the gig on Saturday than Friday, on this occasion.)

Hope that clarifies things - Saturday 17th, Bucks Head, Tam Lin, and beer (or Guinness)!

Alan said he had the idea of us calling ourselves "The Publiners" for Irish gigs, but our two lady fiddlers objected on the grounds that they didn't want to have to grow beards. You can't get the staff these days.
