Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 15 Mar 07 - 04:25 AM Polar bears are white and fluffy Full of fun and never stuffy If you meet one out to lunch You're just the thing he's like to munch |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 15 Mar 07 - 04:46 AM With his sparkling eyes and cute black nose He looks a picture in the artic snows But don't try to reach and tickle his tummy Cos polar bears find you rather yummy |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 15 Mar 07 - 07:14 AM Penguines are a special treat If you're sure to spit out the beaks and feet But polar bears can get in a flap Cos these little devils are so hard to unwrap |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Ross Date: 15 Mar 07 - 09:44 AM Crikey PA - we never knew What's the next verse? Do you think Valerie Singleton ever judged my life sized nude abstract of myself for the Blue Peter painting competetion when I was twelve? I got an injunction by return post but I always thought the winner looked a bit like Shep Do you think I could blackmail myself a Blue Peter badge? |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 15 Mar 07 - 10:58 AM More to come Ross, hope you're sorting the music! We could be famous. The next Rogers and Hamerstein !!!!! do you want to be ginger? |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 15 Mar 07 - 11:06 AM If I had a Blue Peter badge I'd send it back as a protest, like those people who hand back their MBEs or OBEs when they disapprove of the latest person to buy one from Tony Blair. But as the b******ds never gave me one, I can't! Looks as if PA has written the lyrics for your song, Ross - all you have to do now is come up with the tune :-) |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 15 Mar 07 - 11:22 AM Polar bears can make good pets They wipe their feet and don't eat vets They're well behaved and without a hint Will get back up there on their mint The End (maybe) |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Cathie Date: 15 Mar 07 - 11:23 AM 2 more Christmas puddings have turned up in the post today. I could save them up and earn my own Blue Peter badge. There could be a musical by Easter. Les Pols. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 15 Mar 07 - 11:27 AM Easter - does that mean further East, like Essex? As for the Polar Bear song, you just need to add a catchy chorus, PA, that we can all join in with. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 15 Mar 07 - 11:38 AM Right Ho, I'm on to it! |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Cathie Date: 15 Mar 07 - 11:47 AM Who corrected my spelling mistake? That's so spooky. Thank you - I must have a guardian angel after all. Remember that little comfort/indoctrination to foster guilty catholics, PA? |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 15 Mar 07 - 11:50 AM What spelling mistake was that??? Ah yes the guardian angel, we used to blame ours for everything! And the chorus goes : Polar bears, Polar bears they dance on tables not on chairs Polar bears, Polar bears see them skipping up the stairs Watch them gaily skate around Those, fluffy, puffy Polar bears Join in everybody !! |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 15 Mar 07 - 12:12 PM We need Ross's tune first, then we can join in! What's happening at Redbourn "open stage" tonight? Is that like a singaround or what? Can anyone turn up (etc.)? |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Cathie Date: 15 Mar 07 - 12:42 PM Yes Scrump - 3 songs is the usual one after each other, in a nice room above the Cricketers. People sit like an audience and not all take a turn but singalong now and again. Folkie flavour - but not mandatory. Or poetry or such. Nice friendly atmosphere - Ross and Derek are going tonight. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: GUEST Date: 15 Mar 07 - 05:10 PM the delivery man likes the polar bear song |

Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Cathie Date: 16 Mar 07 - 07:10 AM I missed it. We will have to hold our breath for now until we find out whether Ross was performing or song writing. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 16 Mar 07 - 07:11 AM Maybe he wrote the tune to the Polar Bear song and sang that last night? |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 16 Mar 07 - 07:47 AM Is he allowed to do that without my permission - could I be making a bit of dosh out of this. ?? Ross come clean, the filth are on to you, I'll be sending the bears - oops boys round. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The Unicorn Man Date: 16 Mar 07 - 12:22 PM Where is Ross? I saw him on Thursday, but he has gone again. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Ross Date: 19 Mar 07 - 05:05 AM Ooops - sorry - I went on a research trip to find a polar bear What is their motivation? No, I haven't written a tune to the polar bear song, but tempted PA I got totally confused at Redbourn - Derek didn't show but thanks to Unicorn Man, we managed to sing/play a few songs/tunes But not in Janet's nice and neat way of going up to the front and doing three pieces sort of way - oh well It's a Barton open mic this week, but I won't be there I am appearing with the Folkaholics at the Orange Tree, Baldock - mini festival on Wednesday the 21st, with loads of other people |

Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Cathie Date: 20 Mar 07 - 01:53 PM I booked a theatre ticket today on the phone. The lady asked me 'Are we a concession?' .........patronising or not!!! Do I sound like a concession? Next time I will be ready to just say 'yes' and pay cheaper price. or reply 'Up your bum!' |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Ross Date: 21 Mar 07 - 03:43 AM Blimey Cathy - what are ya like? Who could mistake you for a grumpy pensioner Music tonight - 21st Open mic/workshop/call it what you like in the Function room at the Bull, Barton-Le-Clay Mini folk festival at the Orange Tree, Baldock with loads of acts Singers night at Bedford Folk Club - Daleys Social Club, Bedford Redbourn tomorrow at the Cricketers (22nd) - Leon Rosselson - bloody good lyrics |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 21 Mar 07 - 06:43 AM I had a woman barking at me last night in Sainsbury's carpark cos I parked in the parent and child space, (I am a parent and the big lad was with me) she had ranted on about selfish people and not obeying rules and causing accidents etc etc, I just looked her in the eye and calmly said - do I look like I give a s**t - and walked away. Not the best example for Tim, but when he was small he was in bed at early and this was at 8.30. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 21 Mar 07 - 07:01 AM I'm never sure what the rules are about those 'child' parking spaces. I don't think they're like disabled ones, where you would be causing problems for disabled people by parking in them. I think we only parked in one of the 'brat' spaces once when the rest of the car park was full. When our son was a kid, we never had special parking spaces, so I don't see why they should now ;-) Mumble, grumble,... Ross, aren't you going to get all the Barton folk to come to the Orange Tree tonight? |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Ross Date: 21 Mar 07 - 07:21 AM Hi Scrump It's an electric night tonight at the Bull so there's normally only a dozen people - it would be hard to tear them away from their amps and their eclectic mix of blues/rock though They may be some folkies who will come along from the other alternate around the room night Do you want more people? - I'd have thought that the number of performers are going to fill the pub up Is there a large car park? I hate people who give way at roundabouts and junctions when there is nothing coming - grumble |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 21 Mar 07 - 07:35 AM Yes, I might be the only paid-up punter tonight, as I'm not performing - I'll be on the subs bench ready to stand in for anyone who gets injured (but not if they get sent off!) :-) The car park's not huge, but if it fills up there are spaces in the road so it's not a problem, even when the place is packed (the room only holds about 50 people). I don't understand that last bit, Ross - if there's nothing coming, what do these people give way to? |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Ross Date: 21 Mar 07 - 11:05 AM Safety first young man One can never be too careful Where's me cloth cap? |

Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 21 Mar 07 - 11:25 AM Oh and dont forget your driving gloves. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 21 Mar 07 - 11:48 AM He won't be able to play guitar with those gloves on. Don't worry, I'll remind him to take them off. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: The PA Date: 21 Mar 07 - 12:37 PM Would it make any difference? !! |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Cathie Date: 21 Mar 07 - 12:42 PM I would like guitar parking spaces at folk clubs car parks. Music painted on the ground. Some people have a lot of equipment to carry in and out. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 21 Mar 07 - 01:08 PM That's a good suggestion, Cathy. That would be much more useful than those 'kids' spaces in supermarket car parks, that we were talking about earlier. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Cathie Date: 21 Mar 07 - 01:24 PM See you later Scrump. I will be late though. |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Ross Date: 22 Mar 07 - 04:39 AM Hi everyone Thanks for a really nice night at the Orange Tree Lots of really good music and good company Plus yummy beer The Folkaholics are running a singalong at the Three Horseshoes in Winkwell this Sunday afternoon from 4pm (25th) and next Thursday evening from 8:30pm (29th) - just north of Hemel Hempstead on the old A41 It's Redbourn tonight (22nd) And a singaround at the Polish Club in Luton |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Scrump Date: 22 Mar 07 - 05:40 AM Hi Ross, Cathy and Unicorn Man - it was good to meet you all last night, as well as Folkaholic Derek and the others there. It was a very enjoyable evening with some good entertainment from all the acts. I hope to meet you all again before too long. I hope Unicorn Man wasn't driving home afterwards (or did he kip in his famous camper van in the car park?) ;-) |
Subject: RE: March 07 things at ta Bull, Barton, Beds From: Cathie Date: 22 Mar 07 - 12:23 PM and it's hello to Christine who I rang by mistake at coffee time! If I'd been quicker I'd have said it was on purpose 'cos I missed chatting last night! It's a worry how my brain is slowing down. I know she and Steve sang beautifully. |
