Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: wysiwyg Date: 15 Mar 07 - 09:28 AM Misread: stereo wazoo. I guess that's where the stereo kazoo could be painful? I decided not to list all the wonderful things I can recall receiving-- firstly because I have received far too much, and secondly because my memory is not trustworthy these days and I know I would leave out at least one of the "things" from dearly loved people that touched me so deeply. So instead I will just say that some of these things live in our car, some in the Mudcat Attic Dorm, some in our living room, but all of them in our hearts. I try always to save them for a time I can share their newness with hardi, because we get so little time together and because it's a way I can share the best side of Mudcat with my bestest love. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: Peace Date: 15 Mar 07 - 09:21 AM 'Dani, what in the world is a "stereo kazoo"?' It's a kazoo that hurts in two places at once. Akin to 'banjo'. |
Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 15 Mar 07 - 01:05 AM I've swapped CD's with a couple of people, and found a songwriting partner. Dani, what in the world is a "stereo kazoo"? Stephen |
Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: Liz the Squeak Date: 14 Mar 07 - 11:14 PM We too, have benefited from sharing our spare beds with people - although what Giok left us is probably best not talked about.... The best of all though, is being able to swap information for virtual hugs. They've been needed over the last few years, more so this week, and I can almost feel those arms wrapped closely around us. Thanks guys. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: Midchuck Date: 14 Mar 07 - 07:52 AM We got taken out for a very nice dinner just for the use of our spare beds. That involved a sacrifice only on the part of some of the cats, who consider those beds to be theirs. We benefit from Kendall's quack doctor having moved to Albany on him. Peter |
Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: Moses Date: 14 Mar 07 - 07:28 AM I am very blessed to have received lots of lovely music crafted into a beautiful shawl. Last birthday there was a surprise chocolate cake (with candles - nearly set the fire alarm off) to share with a group of Catters. And some much-prized tapes and CDs. Christine |

Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: Becca72 Date: 10 Mar 07 - 12:42 PM Bruce, I said "used to say" because that's one of those things I remember from childhood...we'd be painting snakes blue in the back yard, "working" on a car in the garage or just sitting on the couch watching a boxing match and he'd say that to me. It always made me giggle. |

Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: wysiwyg Date: 08 Mar 07 - 10:48 PM I'll list more of the other cool stuff we've gotten, later. Right now I have to tell you about one really unusual one. I'd been corresponding with one Catter, and he had sent me the CD he'd issued. We went on to talk about a CD WE were considering issuing, and band members had some tracks they'd made also, that they thought we ought to issue. Well, as this Catter conversation developed, it seemed this dude had saved his tracks from the earlier version of that CD, and what he had sent me was the later version he did issue. He told me why he had waited, the specs on how soe of the arrangements had shifted later on to include someone else's contributiuons, etc., and that he was very glad he had waited. So, ever the opportunist, I asked if he would be willing to share a copy of the earlier, unreleased version so I could hear the difference and maybe play them for our band to spark a discussion on "readiness." And he did! (We thought Version One was pretty good! Voice fine, playing fine, mix fine, songlist fine. But then I played the later version he'd released, with the additional instrumentation and some producing help-- and WOW.) It was very helpful, hearing another person's idea of what had seemed "good enough" that he had later decided, with some good encouragement that he could do better, wasn't QUITE as good as he wanted. And I am really grateful that he did that for me. It was incredibly nice of him to take a chance on letting someone hear that. It was indeed quite good, but I had to admit that the eventual version was indeed much better and that IMO it had been a good act of stewardship over his work and his audience. Since then another Catter has also sent me some of his early work. It's wonderful! But the later work-- is genius. Only at Mudcat would people share their work THAT generously. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: Sorcha Date: 08 Mar 07 - 09:57 PM Whiz, you simply would NOT believe those peelers! Brightly coloured acrylic and quite functional. Her house burned and she thought she was doing OK til she went to get a potato peeler. She lost it. I don't even own a potato peeler anymore....waaaahhhhhh! And all my Christmas decorations...wwwaaaahhhh! Some of us sent her small kitchen things, decorations, etc. I found these peelers at Wal Mart. Blue, gold, red, green, can't remeber all the colours. I sent her one of each colour. I wasn't the only one who sent peelers either! Her local grade school also made decorations for her. Mine were probably the most artistic kitchen implement I've ever seen!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Great Mudcat Swaps From: Joe_F Date: 08 Mar 07 - 09:38 PM A long time ago, before Mudcat, before people could make their own CDs, Abby Sale & I discovered that we had virtually disjoint collections of Ewan MacColl LPs, and we exchanged tapes for several months. (Isn't it a bit undignified that this facility flags "Mudcat" as a spelling error?) |

As well as that, there is a growing collection of Mudcatters' CDs, including wonderful songs by a certain Greek Mudcatter, some very fine sea shanties and a great blues CD from one of Mudcat's favourite bluesmen, a very interesting book, the Mudcat cookbook "Whiskey before Breakfast" a few years ago, lots of postcards, jewellery, a gorgeous silk scarf, a lot of Texas chilli, Kendal Mint Cake (yum), a framed work of art from a UK 'catter, which sits on my computer desk - and possibly other stuff I've forgotten to mention. Which reminds me - there's a CD sitting here which I promised to send, and I haven't got a round tuit yet. Bad Jenny! |
