Lyr Add: UK Smoking Ban (Londonderry Air)

Okay, I know there are other threads about the ban, but this one is a music thread!
Unfortunately, topical songs only remain topical for a limited time (the nature of the beast!)
This one is therefore placed in the "Public Domain" as from one week tomorrow. Anyone who fancies using it once the English smoking ban becomes legal please feel free.

DANNY BOY (Smoking Ban, for Summer 2007)
(new words Nigel Parsons, Original words Fred E Wetherley)

Oh Danny boy, my pipe is just a token,
No more we see the fag, or the cigar
For far away our Parliament has spoken.
From this time on, "No smoking in the bar"
They'll seek us out, wherever we are smoking.
Within the pub there'll be no place to hide.
For everywhere, their noses they'll be poking.
So kindly watch my beer while I just pop outside!

Someday, maybe, when Parliament's more mellow.
And pubs install some more effective fans
The ceilings will no longer be all yellow.
And smoking men won't need to heed these bans
And on that day we'll join the other drinkers
Once more be free of all 'Health Lobby' hype
The 'Nanny State' will throw away their blinkers
And we can drink enjoying fag, cigar, or pipe.
.    Until that day, the view against us hardens.
.    We'll go outside, to smoke & drink our ale.
.    We'll frequent pubs possessed of beer gardens
.    And drink dark mild because we are 'beyond the pale'

When sung in Cardiff (our ban started 1st April) 'Parliament' was replaced by Assemblymen, and "Drink Dark Mild" replaced by "Drink Brains Dark" So I have no objections to it being 'folk-processed'. In the North East the last line could easily be "Drink Newkie Brown because we are 'beyond the pale'"

CHEERS
Nigel
(The final quatrain repeats the music for the second half of the verse)

Well done , Nigel.
As you've mentioned Parliament and the Nanny State ,it's a pity it couldn't include that the ban (I am reliably informed) will not extend to the Members Bar in the House of Commons. Another case of don't do as I do , do as I say.

Cheers

Someday, hopefully, the smokers will have all died in agony and the rest of us won't have to listen to their endless bloody whingeing about having to take their foul addiction out of enclosed public places.

Nevermind, I will only care when they ban drinking in pubs,ALCHOHOL,that is, orange, tonic etc OK. Good for you but think about all those poor oranges that die. I myself am a non smoker but I do find that the ban on smoking is just another infringement of peoples civil liberties.
Cant wait till they ban cars, then maybe we can really clean up this planet of ours.
Looking forward to my tax increases to help pay for it all then I can have another moan.

                  Cheers ALL Mick.

Had the smoking ban here in Ireland for a few years now so I no longer go home at night smelling of somebody else's dirty habits or worrying about my lungs being turned into lace curtains.
Come in, that water's lovely.

Unpleasant as it may be, sick (not particularly prevalent in my local) doesn't turn your lungs to sponge - and the smell of a good pint ahhhhhhh.

@ guest: I smell of smoke if the guy next to me smokes, but I don`t smell of beer if he drinks. Is this really so difficult?

And if I pop in for a pint on the way home, I won't have the problem of my wife sniffing the air going "You've been in the pub again!"
