10 Jun 08 - 07:46 PM (#2362785) Subject: Didn't wake up this morning! From: Nigel Parsons At Cardiff's BBC club this evening, Bob Woodley introduced a blues song, saying that all blues songs seem to start "I woke up this morning"! I took this as both inspiration and challenge. The result is quoted below. Obviously, this was "off the cuff", so if anyone wants to use it, or improve om it, then please feel free. I have sung it once (at the BBC club) and now consider it to be 'public domain'. Cheers Nigel (I) Didn't wake up this morning Alarm clocks they're no u...se. Didn't wake up this morning Didn't don my socks and shoes. Didn't wake up this morning I've got those Zombie Folker blues Didn't wake up this morning Don't need no kilt nor trews. Didn't wake up this morning My clothes I didn't choose. Didn't wake up this morning I got those Folking Zombie blues. Didn't wake up this morning, I know it's no excuse Didn't wake up this morning That's why my voice is just no use. Didn't wake up this morning I' got those undead, uptight, deadhead, poor wight, Zombie folker, almost talker, blues. |

There's one version in the DT . and a quote from Dave the Gnome. And one from Kendall. Anyway, this is a very good development on the theme. A |

12 Jun 08 - 12:29 AM (#2363934) Subject: RE: Didn't wake up this morning! From: JohnInKansas As noted, lots of blues songs start off with "I woke up ... ." There should be nearly as many possible variations on "I did not wake up ... ." All you have to do is write the one that sells the best. ("Sales" to be in the currency of your choice. I'm a bit short on all kinds except congrats and applause at the moment.) My baby ain't gone and left me My old hound dog ain't died So how 'm I s'posed to sing the blues When even my lawyer aint' lied I'm just a l-o-o-o-s-er When it comes to singing blues 'Cause no one wants to listen When you've only got good news. Your dead dog comes back to life. You win the lottery. You find yourself surrounded by good friends who understand you. You are really cheered by all this good fortune - what a lucky guy you are! You get into bed and go to sleep feeling really happy. Marje |
