At first they are not there then up they pop. Who decides which threads get them and which don't? E.g. more session rudeness hasn't, though we've discussed it before, Rose, rose, rose has. I ask this because I am a moderator on a forum about Downshifting and Chicken Keeping and find I am answering the same question over, and over. The site has a SEARCH button but this is not always very helpful, nearly every thread mentions 'eggs', 'chicks' etc. Are the related threads chosen by whoever puts them there or generated in some way? Do people think it's an advantage having them there? One thing I've noticed is that when an old thread gets refreshed some people read a question at the top of the thread, and immediately post an answer without reading the rest of the discussion, or noticing that (e.g.) the concert for which a suggestion was needed is long past. |

Different people volunteer to group threads. The system isn't always perfect but it can sometimes be very useful. When a mod comes along and recognizes a thread as related to others it is added to the "Group." I have no idea whether your forum has that availability or not. I mod a monster racing site (one of many mods) with multiple forums for various types of racing but it has no Group function. Frankly the site is so big it would be a disaster. Spaw |

Depends on what you want to achieve. At folkinfo we get very very little discussion and decided at the beginning even if it got busier not to try not to have loads of threads per song. Related threads there are rarely needed. We do relate songs though and can have more than one song per thread. It's easier to show what I mean, eg. this one with 2 songs and the discussion accessible by "tabs". |
