15 Jan 10 - 06:42 PM (#2813142) Subject: RE: mike harding - the parting glass From: Paul Reade Yes it's Bide Awhile - written by Tom Yates who was originally from Rochdale and sang around the Manchester folk scene in the 60s. I still sing it, and I think Arthur Wakefield, who runs the club in Bollington at the Dog and Partridge also does. Another of Tom's songs was "Central Station, Sunday morning". I seem to recollect he moved to London, and someone told me a few years ago that he later moved to Amsterdam where he has since died. |

I don't know that anyone's sung it there since he died. |

His version of No Woman No Cry, (the Bob Marley classic)suitably adapted to the streets of Salford was sublime. He wrote a number of very fine songs and this song has long been one of my favourites and one which invariably goes down well with audiences. Raggy |
