Review: Blind Lemon Pledge

Occasionally, I hear things about a blues performer using the name of "Blind Lemon Pledge," who appears to be from the San Francisco Bay Area, who apparently likes to name songs after women. Anybody know anything about him?

Here are some recordings:
"Lemon Pledge" is a furniture polish made Johnson's Wax in the Waxdale area of my home town, Racine, Wisconsin. I doubt that Blind Lemon Pledge has any connection with the product, with me, or with my home town. This performer does seem to have a strong dose of the delightful wackiness of certain people in the San Francisco Folk Music Club, people like Peter Krug and Holly Tannen and Sadie Damascus and Redmond O'Colonies.
So, does anybody know anything about Blind Lemon Pledge?

I stumbled across this thread, and thought I would say hello and introduce myself. I am delighted you were curious. My name is James Byfield and I have been recording and performing under the name Blind Lemon Pledge since 2009. I just released my 8th critically acclaimed album. And I perform around the Bay Area. Please visit my web page at www.blindlemon-pledge.com. There is information, a lot of videos, and samples of my work.

James

I know of a few performers, who, back in the good old days would use that name. There was also Blind Orange Julius, and Blind Otis Elevator (last of heard of in jail in Cleveland for selling ups and downs).

I could be totally wrong (for a change!)but I seem to recall Cheech and Chong doing a routine with Blind Lemon Pledge as a recording blues singer who forgot to pick up his harmonica.
Just a thought

In the 70s in San Francisco there was a touring play
by two guys (from Texas?)who played all the characters ...
it was called El Grande de Coca Cola ...
Blind Lemon Pledge was a character in there as i remember ...
that play should be 'resurrected' ...one of the funniest plays
I've ever seen ...   this from Wikipedia

Dave Olive from the Wash DC area, used to use that and other temporary aliases as far back as the early 70s. He was also Blind Ethnic Feedback, Blind Harry Palms and several others I forget right now.

   Yes, he specialized in blues....

EX KFAT-Fm (Gilroy) DJ Dallas Dobro also used the moniker "Blind Lemon Pledge" in some of the radio ID's he did for me & my radio show (TUBBY TUNES Radio Show)

Here's a video sampler from Bind Lemon Pledge from 2015. See the post above from the group's leader, James Byfield.

would he be inspired by Jamie McGee the one-armed Scottish blues bagpiper of about 20 years ago? - one of Jamie's influences was one Blind Lemon Meringue

Poor guy, he only lived 36 years. I wonder if he pronounced Lemon Leh-MON.
