Lyr Req: John the Baptist (John Martyn)

From: Wolfgang

For a long time I've been looking for these lyrics:

I'm John the Baptist And this is my friend Salome.
And you can bet it's my head she wants, And not my heart only.
If you see me smiling, And you wonder why,
You can bet it's a private joke Between her and I....

Now I've come close to finding them on this website:

http://www.verkens.demon.nl/lyrics/lyr03-06.htm

However, this website always throws me out just when the lyrics are about to appear. It drives me mad. Could someone please help me?

That page doesn't exist anymore, but Google I managed to get to the Google cache site:

John the Baptist

I'm John the Baptist
And this is my friend Salome.
And you can bet it's my head she wants,
And not my heart only.
If you see me smiling,
And you wonder why,
You can bet it's a private joke
Between her and I.

And it's alright,
(Everything is alright.)
Allright.
(Everything is alright.)

She dances for me
In the midnight moon.
And when I play for her,
She never sings too soon.
When my head's cut off
And I'm lying on a plate,
I'm going to grin and tell myself
It's been a lovely wait.

And it's alright,
(Everything is alright.)
Allright.
(Everything's alright.)

With the revelations granted
And a face just like the haunted.
I see myself on the nursery wall
On the poster reading 'Wanted'.
And there's a big reward
For bringing me in.
And I know in my very heart,
I committed no sin.

And it's alright,
(Everything is alright.)
Allright.
(Everything is alright.)

I'm John the Baptist
And this is my friend Salome.
And you can bet it's my head she wants,
And not my heart only.
If you see me smiling,
And you wonder why,
You can bet it's a private joke
Between her and I.

And it's alright,
(Everything is alright.)
Allright.
(Everything is alright.)
Everything's alright,
Everything's alright...

A double thanks, Sorcha, first for the lyrics and then for the hint how to improve my search next time. I was at google but I didn't know about the caches yet (I could follow your path, so now I know).

This song was written by John Martyn, and recorded by him and his then wife Beverly, on the album "Stormbringer."
The only other recording I have encountered was by Hunter Muskett, the band that gave he folk scene "Silver Coin"
love, john.
