Hi! I work with a young woman who is blind and an Irish fiddle player. Its not that she can't type but the Internet hasn't yet become accessible for people with no vision at all. Anyway, she's trying to find the words to Eochaill since it is one of her favorite songs.
Here's the Gaelic version if anyone can help.

We've been trying to translate word by word and haven't given up yet, but if anyone out there knows, please write a note!

I've tried a fairly straight translation below. I'm not sure about some of the words

Sunday Morning going to Eochaill (a place name in Co Cork – anglicized to Youghal (Pr .Yawl))
I met a young woman on the way
Her hair was beautiful as ?
And her voice was more beautiful than fairy music.

I proudly put my hand in her way
And I asked my heart's treasure for a little kiss,
But she said stop and don't tear my cloak
When the woman of your house doesn't know what you're doing

Here is my hand that I'm not married,
And that I'm a young boy who has loved women,
And if you would come back to Eochaill,
You would get the same respect as a woman of the house.

I'd put a right and tidy high caul cap on you
A dress a cloak and a (caipisin ? not sure – a cowl as in a Capuchin Monk ?)
We'd have a shop full ? of wine and beer there,
And your (?) child would be walking the house

It's only a short hour since I left Eochaill
And sorrow would not let me return there
Because my people would be very angry with me
And I wouldn't get any shelter from my friends and relations

I wouldn't do their bidding (take their advice) on half of what they said
But I hit the road both day and night
I'm a ? girl walking the roads
Looking for word from Cappoquin (a place in Co Waterford not dar from Eocahill)

The name EoChoill literally means a wood of Yew Trees

thanks to everyone for all your help, i have been sittin here at my computer trying to translate, so many possibilities, starting to remind me of an anagram. then i found yr messages. its good to have both versions, michelle will be so happy!!!! i just saw her today and read some of what i had tried to translate, "It is without knowledge your custom at touch your home." This my hand to you the blood marriage. It is that herdsman young him brought good humor to alone. etc, etc. . .we thought maybe it was the most mysterious song in the world, ha. my eyes, however, have been opened to the beauty of the language. thanks again. dawn
