BS: One more time, for Spaw, please

I wasn't going to post this until after he came home, but after talking with "KarenSpaw," this evening, I think we'd better ask for some good ol' Mudcat help.

Spaw went in hospital, last Thursday, aenemic and hypoxic, with signs of internal bleeding. He is in ICU. Here's the scoop, as of tonight:

Because his lungs seem to be quite weak, they put him on a vent in order to do an upper GI, to find out where he was bleeding. Found three ulcers in his stomach, two of which they cauterised, the other was somewhat inaccessible, so they injected something to constrict its vessels. His hemoglobin went up, which is a good sign, after that treatment. He may be off of the vent by now. Karen will be going back up in a few minutes and will keep me posted.

They've taken him off the heparin to slow the bleeding problems, but that also carries a risk of blood clots. The cellulitis he's been battling is getting better and the swelling in his legs is better since he has been off of them.

He's been on a BiPap (pressurised breathing machine, kind of like CPAP) and without it, his o2 sats are okay on a cannula, but he becomes disoriented, etc. so they are thinking he needs the BiPap to help get rid of the Co2 in his lungs. (Been there done that! I know how it feels!)

Although his heart has been enlarged for quite some time, he does not have congestive heart failure, so that is good, too.

Their friends, Connie and Wayne, are helping out in every way possible. Karen hopes he will be home for Christmas. I told her I'd put out a call to Mudcatters to get their "mojo risin'" and she said she KNOWS that when Mudcatters do so, IT WORKS!

So, please, folks, light yer candles, send good thought, cuss him out for not taking care of himself, and/or say a few prayers for Spaw and Karen, as well as their boys. Like before, this one doesn't sound good, but there IS a will to live which will benefit from a good Mudcat BOOST.

Thanks so much,

luvyakat

Spaw, you have been such a booster and supporter for so many folks here when they have been ill. More people are gonna get sick, so you have to get well ya old fart, get off yer arse and get home with Karen for the holidays. I don't know where you stand on prayers--but I'll do that. God may listen to me, because if you are talkin' with the Big Guy while you're in that hospital bed you're likely telling Him dirty jokes or outrageous stories. If good vibes is your thing, I will send you a ton of 'em. I'll bitch at you about not taking proper care of yourself another time. Say just after Christmas when you can bitch back.

Much love from me.
I joined Mudcat because one of Spaw's Adventures in Hospital-land, but I'd just as soon have him stay out. I look forward to him feeling better and coming back here to tell us all the intimate details of the latest medical procedures.
Listen to Karen, Connie, Wayne, the nurses, the doctors, the Keeper of the Bedpan,... basically anybody that tells you to do anything, and HEAL!

Well, I was gonna just let this one pass bvut my couzin Rufus and his wife, Rether May, stopped by just long nuff to read this thread so Rufus would like to say somethin'....

Mistr Spaz you need to get good beecauz I god a storee ta tell ya that yo aint believd an seeinz dat my wife sayz that her is related to di Reg boyz I think that you jus mite well stck roun ta here et

Rufus

Ahhhh, Spawzer, hold the phone... Now Rther Mays gonna talk to ya...

Hello, Mister Spaw. Don't pay one bit of attention to either my dumbass husband or his dumbass cousin, Bobert. These two old goats think they know everything in the world but between you and me, between the two of them, a box of animal crackers has more sense. And, please, don't believe anything that Rufus says. He drinks a lot. So does Bobert. Might of fact, Saturday nights for them two knuckleheads usaully means drinking up behind the Sweet Springs Store until they fall out on the ground! Yeah, you folks have probably been duped into thinking that Bobert has a brain. Believe me, he doesn't. And as for those stories he likes to tell about me weighing 400 pounds and driving around in a Chevette with the driver's seat moved to the back? That is pure foolishness on his part. I drive a very respectable '99 model Caprice. That jackass Rufus is the one with the Chevettes. Why I married that man is perhaps a question for the ages, Mister Spaw? Hey, I graduated in the top 10 at Mary Washington University in 1976 with a degreee in Psycholgy which has come very much in handy6 in dealing with both of the psycopaths.

And as for being related to the Reg Boys? What a load of Bobert'sd imagination. He would love to be realeted to anyone whoes entire claim to fame revolved around flagilation or getting drunk.

I'm real sorry to hear that you are feeling poorly but trust you will recover fully so you can kick the crap out of my husband and his dillusional cousin, Bobert.

Retha (not Rether or Rethar or what ever else those two call me)

Now Bobert has one more thing to say.

Okay, Spawzer, don't pay no attention to that woman!!! Talk about dillusinal... She wrote the book... Hey, she was part right 'bout that upper ten at her college... Yeah, the way I heard it she was in the top ten in the ugly contest...

(Bobert, Bobert, Bobert... That ain't true... She was a real looker back then... Still ain't half bad...)

Nevermind that, Spawz... You just get yer butt well... Okay get everything attached to it well as well 'cause we ain't done yet...

Sniff...

Bobert

I'm giving thanks for the wondrous body Pat has, his amazing construction (natural and augmented), the inherent vitality that WILL NOT let him get down too far, the miraculous healing ability he has, his ability to think outside any box presented to him, and the healing power flowing through him and around him and for him.

I'm giving thanks for the strength he has and has had, and for the strength he will be receiving in the days, hours, and minutes ahead.

Mostly I am giving thanks that he is so well loved, and that he knows it.

Pa jist bought a brand new pickup truck and he was comin to give you a ride. Well, it's really a 1971 Ford, but its you know, new to him. The motor's pritty good, too, and it don't make too much black smoke since he put the oatmeal in the crankcase. Now you're in the hospital and you can't take a ride. So Pa's gonna bring you some of his famous barbequed chicken and hog meat. The stuff he marynates in the stuff he makes in the henhouse, with cabbage. So you git ready since he'll have to sneak in. You know they won't let him in the door since the incident with the cigar and the rooster a couple years back, even though it wasn't his fault the M-80s went off before they was supposed to. So if yer up to it he'll help you sneak out and take a ride. He's put a piece of plywood over the holes in the floor and the front seat where the spring sticks up.

Gee, I haven't seen much of Spaw on the threads I've been following but that may not be unusual. Over time a person seems to vacillate between activity and lurking. I know I do. Still, whenever I think of the Mudcat Spaw is one of the people I think of. His presence was a big reason why I spoke up after lurking for a long time. And the concentrated effort to support him through his previous hospitalization was very impressive to me.

So, Spaw, I hope you are doing better, I wish only the best news for Karen and the kids, and I hope you are being a good patient for the nurses (or is that expecting too much?).

Subject: RE: BS: One more time, for Spaw, please
From: GUEST,Blake Madison

Blake Madison, private investigator, stumbles into the bar looking like a cruel experiment to study the long term effects of alcohol and disappointment. "Usual, Blake?" says the bartender. "yeah, but make it two," replies Madison, the Pall Mall between his chapped lips bobbing, lurching, and dropping a two inch ash caterpillar on the bar, which Madison ignores, accidentally mashing it into the soiled elbow of a 16 year old trench coat purchased for him in New York's Chinatown by an ex-gal pal who fell for him before suddenly wising up and sobering up simultaneously.
"Expectin' a friend, Blake?" Madison drains the tumbler of its precious 4 ounces of Four Roses and smacks his lips. "No. I'm drinking for two tonight, Max. Me and a wounded compadre, fellow seeker of truth, y'know." Madison downs the second drink, belching "set 'em up again for me 'n my pal." The bartender upends the quart bottle, which bubbles merrily in the subdued amber fluorescence of the back bar. "He a crimefighter?" says Max.
"Nah. He's a bullshit fighter. Got a nose for it. Unfortunately, he's got a tricky ticker. Kinda like one of those old fashioned alarm clocks...every once in a while the alarm goes off, and he's got to go in and get it rewound. Somethin like that, anyway. If you ever met him, you'd remember him. Funny fucker, sees flatulence as a practical joke that pizza and beer like to play on us. Drives a big nasty looking stroked and bored Chevy. Got a weird thing for possums."
"Possums?"
"Yeah, possums. He likes Patrick Sky and Lenny Bruce, too."
"Sounds like a complex guy."
"Not really." Madison knocks back the last Four Roses, and wipes his mouth on his sleeve, transferring the smudged cigarette ash to his upper lip where it gives him the look of a rather seedy Clark Gable. "He sure can drink some whiskey though. Better set 'em up again. Bastard's liable to keep me here all night."

1 You are the Mudcatter I want to meet most, so you have to get better so I can make that happen.

2 If the thought of my visiting is what is worrying you, then I promise not to visit.

Whatever it takes my friend in Mudcat, either way I don't mind, just get better.

Thinking of you and Karen and the boys.

Hey Spaw,

May your bunions be throbbing soon and you are hopping around with the joys of spring again soon. We miss your flatulant ways, it's because of you I admitted to a male pal that I'd never seen a fart lit before, and he obliged... Funniest thing I've ever seen, and the most bizarre thing I've ever had a dinner guest do after the dinner was over. Was better than after dinner mints for finalising the meal, and more spectacular than Blackpool lights on a dark evening.

May you be back online soon and I hope your family get to see you at home for Christmas. Lots of shift your arse thoughts and hurry up and get better.

But seriously, take it easy, recover soon.

I do think that it would behoove you to remove yourself from hospital care and return to your home, whatever it is. There is only so much that you can do in a hospital before they fill you full of simethecone and plug up what Nature intended to float free.

Some years ago a friend of mine was in a similar situation. He, too, expressed himself loudly, odoriferously, and often. They pumped him full of simethecone (an invention of the devil!) and he couldn't release the pressure. It kept building up and up, but there was no release possible. Finally it came, but not in the usual manner. It came, well, orally. The force of it blasted him through the head of the bed and out the window, propelling him a full three blocks and into the swimming pool of one Prudence Symington-Worth, sole daughter and heir of the Symington-Worths (of Grossbeck, Ohio). She was entertaining the Mayor, the Chief of Police, and the cultural affairs attache from the Mongolian Republic when he landed. The force of the landing broke the hold of the simethecone on his intestinal track, and the bubbles that arose from the swimming pool were ignited by the Mayor's cigar. Reports of UFOs poured into Wright-Patterson AFB, obscure (and stinky) explosions reverberated overhead, and the pool was emptied of water. There was a happy ending, in that Pru-Poo (as he calls her) was so impressed that she fell immediately in love with him, they were married, and have lived (so far) happily ever after.

So get out of there. You're already married.

Spaw - Here are your choices :

1 - Get well soon or else we will find a team of Mudcatters to come to your hospital room to sing Neil Young's "The Needle and the Damage Done" over and over and over and over and over until you rise up out of your bed fully recovered.

2 - Or we'll all chip in to send Shambles a plane ticket to fly over there to explain the fine points of censorship on the Mudcat over and over and over and over and over until you rise up out of your bed fully recovered.

Don't make me come up there. In the meantime my thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones for a speedy recovery.

Oops, excuse me, I'm sure life has never been normal for you. Spaw, don't you think that Kendall, Big Mick, Joe Offer, Sinsull, myself et al are merely little baby bloops in the world of real farting.
You sir, are the maestro.

I thought it was Le Petomaine - the magnificent French farter of stage, screen and wax disc of the 19th century - until I heard about an accident (similar to mine above) which almost ruined his career.

Apparently, after a lavish introduction by the M.C. he came on stage from the wings, dropped trou, and bent over to favor the audience with his famous rendition of La Marseillaise Flatulente, when, instead of the first notes of the melody, a gurgle and splash were heard followed by a semi-solid plop on the floor.

Abashed, Le Petomaine turned to the audience and said, "Pardonnez-moi! I was just clearing my throat!"

I know this would never happen to Maestro Spaw - my hero!!

No, this is a serious post, expressing my deep concern on behalf of a man who can only be described as...a great man. I am speaking of Pat Patterson, aka "Spaw", a veritable icon on this forum that has been so kind to me. Now it's true that we have had our differences. Pat has said some uncharitable things about me in the past, but none of that matters now. After all, "it's an ill wind that blows no one good", to quote an old phrase. All is forgiven and forgotten in times of trouble. I am prepared to abandon my busy schedule and make an emergency visit to Pat to cheer him up. In fact, I'm eager to do it. I'm longing to. Just say the word.

Get better soon, pal! We need you.

A couple of years ago in some thread Spaw made some most nasty jab at me to the effect that in a moment I would wax lyrical about the crack in my floor. So I wrote this for him:

Ode to the Crack in my Floor

"Oh there's a wide jar in my door
Although I'm in the frozen nawth
And a great crack in my floor-
And that's where I hide ol' Spawth

Ol' Spawth was tired of it all
Said his life was such a bore
He begged me away back last fall
"Plug me in the crack in your floor"

The crack in my floor, it is wide
It is long and deep, it is old
A perfect place for Spawth to hide
Amongst my flakes of solid gold

I'll dig up Ol' Spawth, crack the clay
Come spring with my shovel and more
I'll stand him up, send him away
Admire again the crack in the floor."

Winter will be over before you know it, Spaw. Get out of there.

I find it particularly...moving...that William Shatner has seen fit to post on this thread, and to offer to visit in person at Spaw's bedside! Few mortals have been granted such an honor, and even fewer mortals of the male gender. Mr Shatner had attempted to post here earlier but was blocked from doing so by...some anomaly...or...by deliberate conspiracy on the part of someone...I'm not sure which. It smells bad to me. Anyway, he sent the text to me and I posted it for him. He signed off as "Bill", an indication that he is embracing Spaw as a brother. This is particularly striking to me, given their past differences.

Hey, Pat, I'm pulling for you and so is Big Bill. With any luck, he WILL stop in and chat with you for a bit. Keepa you fingers crossed.

Seriously, man, I hope you are managing okay. People can't help but make all the usual stupid jokes, given your self-created history as official buffoon of the forum (in between the serious posts), but they do care. No doubt about it.

Sorry to get to this thread so late! It would be a real shame if he was all better and out of the hospital before I could wish Spaw well!

Hey, Spaw, if they're not giving you enough to eat there to get up a high wind, I can send my dawgs to hang out with you. One of 'em is pretty stinky this afternoon. Can't tell which, they're always together. But with this cold weather, we notice it more. Might help you feel right at home.

Like Jacqui says, get yourself down to the Mudcat Recovery Ward, adjacent to the Mudcat Tavern. It has been a little quiet in there of late, but if you move in, lots of folks will climb through that hall coat closet from the tavern to the ward to see you.

Ah, I see Nurse Ratched is aware that you may be visiting. She just stuck a stainless steel bedpan in the freezer. . .

Get back here soon, healthy and happy!

UPDATE

Thanks, everyone.

Just talked to Karen. Not much new to report. She sounded very tired, she's doing too much, imo, BUT she is holding it together. She asked me to tell you all "Thanks, so much" and sends her love.

They were going to do another scope, today, because he was still having tarry stools, but just as she left this morning, they said the doctor had cancelled it. She doesn't know why, but his blood levels have been okay and he hasn't had any "movements" in the past day or so, so she thinks maybe they called it off to see if they've finally gotten the ulcers under control

He is still intubated and sedated, partly because of the intubation. When he was not sedated because the medicine in the bag was leaking out, instead of going in his I.V., he was lucid enough to write Karen a note which said, "It hurts, take it out."

No blood problem since they found the ulcers, except as noted above. His temperature is normal and Karen said his legs look the best she's seen them in years, probably because he has had them elevated all of the time!

He is still doing better on the BiPap, instead of O2, but they are putting him on CPap at night without supplemental O2, through the vent and his O2 sat rate stays good.

Karen apologised that she didn't have any new news! She is back at work, nights; then goes to Connie's to take Tris to school, then home to take care of the critters and sleep (not enough!), then gathers the boys after school to do a few things with them, then takes them back to Connie's and Michael's friend's house and off to the hospital to see Pat before she goes to work. Fortunately, her work is in a building next to where he is; she said it's only about twenty paces from her lab to him and the ICU nurses are great.

That's it folks. I asked Karen if she was worrying overmuch. She said, no, she's been here before and knows it does no good. I am proud of her and love them both so very much.

Thanks for your continued support. If anyone would like to send cards for when he is able to be aware, please PM me for the addy.

Karen,

Of course you are doing too much-- it's the only safe place to channel the worry and the best way you know how to stay strong. I pray that soon, a safe day will come so you can fall apart a little bit. Till then, just keep moving; keep putting one foot down at a time, and know that we are all pulling with you.

Be confident that dear Pat can rest on the cloud of our caring as long as he needs to, for him to rebuild his strength. That same cloud of caring will support you and the boys, too, as you keep walking strong; there's an endless source of strength that will keep holding all of you up as long as you need for it to be there.

I know Pat's body is working as hard as it can to get better, while the sedation keeps him down far enough to let go and to let his body take charge of its own healing. I'm sorry he woke up enough to know that something hurt. How relieved his healing-mechanisms must be, that the constant re-making of blood for blood lost, is over! Now they're already busy doing the delicate and hard work that will bring him home.

~Susan

UPDATE, cont.

Oops, I thought I'd gotten this in before the previous update went through: right after the hospital called, the garage called to let Karen know it cost $300 to get her old-300,000 miles-car winter-ready! Bit of a shock that one as Spaw and Wayne had done some of the work and bought the parts themselves. At least she will be safe going to and from work, etc.

I think about y'all every time someone wants to bring a Weiner-meaner (sp?)(*g*) into the studio, or when I see a train. UPDATE

Spaw is BETTER!! His doc said all that was going bad is going in the right direction now! No vent, no naso-gastric tubes; he is eating solid food and hungry! He told Karen to tell everyone to come by and visit, which Michael and Tristan got to do, yesterday.

He is still in ICU only because it's the best place for him IF the ulcers causing anymore problems.

Karen spent ALL of yesterday sleeping and resting. I am so proud of her! She is cleaning up the house, in little bits, then resting, then cleaning. Tristan comes over from his neighbour-friend's house every once in awhile and takes bags of trash out for her; Michael helps in between playing Runescape online (part of the reason Spaw is more scarce...the boy has discovered the internet!)

Karen is going to talk to Connie about taking her laptop up to Spaw, so maybe there will be a sighting here in a day or two.

Karen wanted me to tell you all THANKS, send lots of LOVE, and she really appreciates everything, as does Spaw. She received a *mysterious* package from West Chester, PA (Mudcat Central?) which had a beautiful shawl in it. She was really pleased as her coat doesn't fit well AND the blower in her car's heater is out so she will use it to put over her legs on the way to work. It's okay, she said it's been out for 2-3 years and she is used to it (damn thing is expensive!), but she is REALLY pleased about the shawl and how toasty warm it is. I know of a couple of different ones which were going out to her, but not from PA, so not sure which of you special *Santas* did this one. Thanks a bunch, though, to you all!!

More when I hear it!

Hey ........ Spawzer ........ You are really milking this one, guy ...... we do have other accounts here at LFPS, layabouts at large and for hire. We are coming up on our busy season here. There are many folks that don't have time for laying about, so's we have to pace ourselves. Time for you to move on out of that place. I know its a sweet gig, but have a little respect for the other Senior partners.

And just remember folks. If your life is out of control, and every minute of the day is filled up. If you have a refrigerator full of beer and snacks, Buffalo Wings waiting to be eaten, and a couch or an easy chair just crying out for someone to use, but you just can't find the time, give a call to Lane, Patterson, Fielding and Swan, Layabouts at Large and for hire. We have reasonable rates, and are extremely competent at doing nothing at all. Our standard package covers eating your snacks, yelling at you to get us a beer and sleeping and snoring loudly with a TV set in the background blaring out your favorite football game/sporting events. No figure skating or ice dancing, please. While our prices are all inclusive, there are a couple of optional services that can be added for a fee. If you would like flatulence included, we need a days notice in order to "power up the pumps". There is no extra charge for belching loudly and scratching ourselves.

We are your full service layabouts. Accept no imitations.

Get better, pal. I love ya and have you foursquare in the prayers.

Dear Mr. Lane, Founding Partner,

Is your service complimentary for other Founding Members (imagine finding those dangly bits after all of those years!) and, does it provide Lap Service for those of Other Species?

I ask on behalf of Mr. Patterson's landlord and lady, Mr. & Mrs. Why MoreOnHer, as they are in some distress at having to layabout, themselves, without benefit of Mr. P's cushioned largesse and warmth. He has been qute good about them draping their 80 pounds and more across his Lap; actually lapping up the attention and they do so love to give him baths. It really helps tremendously with the wafting odors which seem to hang like a miasma of gaseous clouds whereever he is.

They eagerly await, in quite dignity, your pending member answer, via this most accomodating medium. ON their behalf, I am

Sincerely Yours,

Cat Agoneia (if Mr. P doesn't return soon! They are squishing me and I DON't like my fur getting slobbered on!)

Now park that bum, elevate those legs, and relax, dammit! ... oh, you're doing that, eh?... well, relax harder and faster, you need to get out of there before you run out of people to torment. Glad to hear you are improving, and like the Balding E-Gal, soon may be off the endangered list ( I have even heard she is growing hair again...).

As you know, some of us are begining to agitate for a bill in Congress, or presidential thingamagoogin, to get you deserved protection as an indespensagooble natural ( un-natural ) resourse. The ad hopped, committee for the preservacation of Spaw has been meeting, drinking, vomiting, and occationally thinking, and has thunked that a small demonstration may help to get the bill passed, something along the lines of a small town powered for a short time by Spawgas ( registered trademark ) a moon shot, or a night time light show. But, all this can wait, until you are feeling better and the committee regains conciousness long enough to drink itself back into some degree of wisdom.

The Balding E-Gal has been agitating for you as well...

Karen just called me. He has been moved out of ICU!!!! Feeling quite perky and full of himself. They are going to keep him at least another week and a half to keep an eye on the ulcers. Will do another scope next week to see how they are doing. I will be calling Himself, later today and report more, direct from the Horse's Arse Mouth, forthwith.

UPDATE

Just spoke with Spaw himself. He sounded pretty good, a little weak and fatigued, but he said he'd been napping a bit when I called. His voice grew stronger as we spoke.

He said he'll probably be in there at least another two weeks, so may have to have Christmas a little later. The biggest concern is he is not on any anti-coagulents while they get the ulcers healed, so there is a risk of blood clots. Next week, they will take a look at the ulcer they injected and discuss options then. It seems to be doing okay, now, but there is a possibility of surgery to repair it. His doc said he wasn't a good candidate for surgery, but Spaw reminded her he has never been so and it's basically a crap shoot, either way. He wants to feel better, either way and accepts the risks of surgery, if need be, because he does NOT want to continue as it was the past couple of weeks.

On the whole, he said things are going as well as they can and we'll just have to see. He is elated to be off the bedpan!

He is breathing better, etc. I will talk with him, again, in a few days.

I told him Alba said he was getting to old to be a "mahout" to get off the darn elephant and the rest of you have been lighting @*&%$ reduction candles, sending good thoughts, cracking wise and wishing him well. He's thankful and I even got a soft giggle out of him.

Sheer bloody magic Spaw, I am so pleased to hear your good news. On the ulcer front, a friend who has suffered from them for years was cured by taking massive doses of antibiotics, as per her doctor's instructions. They seem to think that most ulcers are bacterialogical in origin and can be treated this way.

If the freezing rain/winter storm messiness is half as bad at your house as it is at mine, you don't want to go outside - even if the alternative is staying in a hospital! seriously, I'm not looking forward to driving home in this tonight. And I'd rather not have Karen risk putting herself in the hospital by going out in this. Take care, and I think I'll just start up another fresh candle when I get home. Love, Mary

GLAD TIDINGS!

Karen just called. They are talking about releasing Spaw from hospital in a matter of days! Then she said he told her to ask me to call because his curiousity was up. Karen received another special package in the mail, today, plus some other wonderful, thoughtful cards, letters, etc. I will let him tell more when he is home and able.

So...I called him. We talked for over an hour and it is the best I have heard him sound in a year or more. It was just wonderful. We both kept remarking on how good it was to talk...I think it was partly because we both had plenty of breath with which to speak!**bg**

He knows he neglected some warning signs and this time is making some important changes as he figures he's used up close to all of those nine lives we "cats" get.:-)

He is keeping his oxygen sat rates up just fine, without extra oxygen, the ulcers look good; he is "eating like a horse" and feels great. The only thing left is for them to start him on coumadin, again, to prevent blood clots, then send him home. So, he can rightly sing, "I'll be home for Christmas!"

Hollowfox, you'll be glad to know Karen took the day off, kept the boys at home and is getting some good rest and having fun fixing dinner.

True Confession: I didn't get this printed off and sent to him, partly because it grew so fast, it would've been scads of pages. I don't feel too badly now that I know he will be home soon and is eager to read it himself.

Oh, Happy Day!

Thanks ya'll,

luvyalat

Subject: RE: BS: One more time, for Spaw, please
From: GUEST,the Royal Forkers

We, the Royal Forkers of Mississippi, feel indebted to Mr. Spaw for his part in giving us a neat-o job working on Pa and Cleetuses bar b que pit back when our Royal pain in the ass uh, King khandu went a wee bit bazonkers in his Royal head (which is a routine of his that is as regular as his Royal Movements of Bowel!) and had to be sent to that Neil Young place for Loonies.

When we heard that Mr. Spaw was feeling poorly and suffering greatly, we, The Royal Forkers of Mississippi, gather many stones, bricks and what-not together and put our brains, hearts and backs to work and erected him a grand obelisk that looks like a mighty schlong. The good folks of our good state have traveled & traversed far and near to see the erection and all stand amazed and bewildered at the site.

The ladies often swoon in rapture as they read the inscription below the erection which features the world famous poem, written by Mr. Spaw, which we now include in its entirety below:

ODE TO MY PHALLUS

O Phallus, my phallus, why art thou so teeny?

T'would be a Prize, if ye were even half the size

Of an Oscar Meyer weinie.

O phallus my phallus, why art thou so teeny

They taught me much, they taught me well

To mine own self be true

To do my own thing

Alas, my own thing is much too little to do

O Phallus my phallus why art thou so wee

T'would give me much pleasure if thou wouldst only measure

At least two inches, or three

O Phallus, my Phallus

Why art thou so wee

I saw her there, so beautiful and fair

I was filled with desire

To stoke her lust into a bright flame,

Into a raging fire.

Sweet words, wine ,and poetry

Music so soft,

Surely that would do the trick

She giggled and tittered

Then she guffawed

"I've not even seen a candle with such a small wick!"

Have I angered the ancients, those powerful gods

Who created this kit'n'kaboodle

That they should give others such wonderful rods

And leave me with this pitiful noodle.

O Phallus, my Phallus

Why art thou so damned short!

The End

We love you, Brother!

UPDATE - Sorta:-)

Well, they don't know the results of the scan, officially, but the word amongst the nurses is the ulcers are healing well. Karen and he both think his doc will probably want to wait a couple more days before starting the rat poison (coumadin) so, he may still be there for Christmas. They both sounded upbeat about it and said they'd just bring Christmas to the hospital. Pat's bored and frustrated that he can't be home to do some shopping online, so I told him "Santa" had already done some, not to worry. (You know who you are!)

Anywho, that's the news for today. I will probably call him again on Wednesday and post what's what, then.

Thanks, again, folks. You are all really special and incredible friends.

Complaining, the first sign of recovery. Let me know when he is well enough for me to ream his ass out for not taking proper care of himself! What is it with men and illness? They whine like babies over a case of the sniffles and ignore chest pain, exhaustion, and all signs of serious problems until it's high drama time. Damn!
Spaw get your ass in here. I need a word.

To say the nine lives are about used up is understatement as is saying that I have some great friends in this strange place. Saying thank you isn't enough yet it's the best I can offer and I can assure you it comes from deep in my heart.

This one was far too near a thing. I was actually between the rock and hard place in the most real of ways and it wasn't looking good. Many thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers and for all you did for Karen. Someday soon I'll tell you about her from a standpoint I have rarely described her before. She was warmed by this place once again and we both thank all of you for so much that words aren't really sufficient.

I'm home and feeling great, breathing better than I have in probably the past three or four years. I'm feeling pretty strong but it's amazing how quickly you lose all stamina after being intubated. One Doc said it takes 3-4 weeks rehab for every day past one that you're on a vent. Strong as I feel right now I was amazed at how quickly I ran down after getting home. But believe me, I am taking it easy and doing it right as I think I've gone to the "More Luck than Good Sense" bag once too often already.

But enough of this serious sounding crappola.......I have a few good stories which I'll post over the next few weeks including a wonderful piece of irony that Paw and Cletus fans will enjoy.

Once again, our thanks and our own best wishes back to you all. Have some great holidays and enjoy the company of friends and family.

Spaw

Pat, the best, BEST thing you can do to aid your recovery in all ways is this-- use the new energy for resting. Use it to focus your attention on hearing the ticking of the parts, the feel of blood moving where it should, the relaxed gratefulness of wellbeing.... just get comfy and use the new energy to notice all that, for as long as you can (and then sleep and start over again). If you do this, combined with people piling on to be close and relax with you, you will heal so much more quickly and deeply.

Bless you all,

~Susan

Hey Spawzer!
Great to hear... ah see ya back... howboutan old cautionary tale... this one will ... never mind, my mum had a gaucoma op last week, her doctor told her to take it easy, then to drive home the point, told her about a fellow who was fully blind for ten years, he brought back the guys sight and told him, no heavy lifting... well, the fellow was so happy to see again, he went to the market and bought two cases of beer, leaned over and lifted them, and went permanently blind...

SO TAKE IT EASY OLD BOY... there is plenty of time for badness in the new year!!!!

:)
you made my Christmas, kiddo, getting up on your pegs...

I am happy to report the Patterson Family had a very nice Christmas and that Pat was able to sleep for a LONG time with no problems breahting; the longest he's been able to sleep in years.

I am ALSO pleased to say he is going to do a damn sight better at taking care of himself than he has done, sometimes, in the past. This is STUPENDOUS and I am so darn proud of him and Karen, both. They are great Parents and Partners to their boys and one another. He sounded so good, yesterday. Best Christmas present there is this year!

Oh, and when he is able, he's got a DOOZY of a Pa and Cletus story to tell!
