There may be a causal relationship between what he heard in privileged conversations day after day, from emotionally traumatized people, and with ethnic implications presumably arising with great frequency. It brings to mind Gore Vidal's book Hollywood, (partially) about the power of propaganda to demonize almost instantaneously, the Germans, even to some extent by first and second generation (presumably confused and conflicted) German-Americans.
