Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: katlaughing Date: 06 Aug 08 - 11:44 AM LOL...I *think* you can make it to the coffee pot, now, Mary. I talked to him a little while ago and he was "tidying" up.:-) My Rog makes a mess, too, but he never, ever cleans up after himself! |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: SINSULL Date: 06 Aug 08 - 11:39 AM He remembered the Salt Water Taffy. Micca cooked us a wonderful meal last night although Kendall and I were too hungry and irritable to eat fashionably late. How does one person make such an incredible mess of a kitchen? I walked in there this AM to make myself a cup of coffee and decided I would need a front loader to get to the coffee pot. Micca - we will get you housebroken or die trying. Delicious chicken and lemon rice, though. LOL |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: Tinker Date: 06 Aug 08 - 11:00 AM Ah Micca, I didn't make it up to Maine Like I had hoped. Some how mundane life just keeps getting in the way. But I seem to be a bit dryer than the crew you have seen. I'm still jealous. But Getaway will come again. |

Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: katlaughing Date: 01 Aug 08 - 01:40 PM That sounds awful, Spaw!! I have decided going cold turkey off Micca and my grandson is NOT the thing to do! Fortunately, the grandkid still lives close by and once my foot gets better so that I can drive, he will be back with his "gramma!" As for Micca...I hear a certain winery calling!:-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: catspaw49 Date: 01 Aug 08 - 11:55 AM Maeve I have no doubt you are a pie baker extraordinaire but let me say to Mick, Barry, Kendall, Micca, et al................. I'd barely get out of bed for one of them fruity pies. Pie by its very nature is about as unhealthy a thing as you can get. I mean they're filled with cholesterol, butterfats, lard, mountains of all sorts of sugars...........Christ on a crutch, the damn things are death baked in a pan! But we throw some half-assed fruit in them and tell ourselves they have some redeeming dietary value......they don't! So let's just not kid ourselves (you can't kid your heart and arteries----I know this for a fact) and let's eat some really fine pies that throw all caution to the wind and all the friggin' fruit out for the birds to eat. I'd suggest a pie that will harden every blood vessel in your body, completely occlude the coronary arteries, add an additional 12 pounds of body fat, AND rot your teeth while you are eating it!!! No need to wait! Perhaps one of you Maine folks could crank out a few of these babies before Micca leaves.......... ********************************************************************** BUTTERMILK PIE(makes 2 pies)Make up two of your favorite recipe deep dish pie shells or but a couple of premade....your choice. Brown them a bit before adding the filling. FILLING: Ingredients: 5 Cups Granulated Sugar 6 Tablespoons Flour 10 Tablespoons Butter 6 Eggs 3 Cups Buttermilk 2 teaspoons Vanilla 2 teaspoons vinegar Combine the sugar and flour. Melt the butter in a separate bowl then mix in the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, and vinegar. Mix well!!! Add in the sugar/flour and continue mixing.....good mixing is important. Pour the filling mixture into the pie shells and bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes (clean toothpick check). Let cool and EAT!!! ********************************************************************** Have a supply of antacid handy and if any kids in the area partake, some rope to tie them up is helpful too. Enjoy (and so will your dentist) Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: Micca Date: 01 Aug 08 - 10:16 AM Mick, NOT cherry pie but APPLE, but not like my mother made, which, good and splendid as it was never approached the dizzy heights of the concoction of apple and pastry that maeve produced last Autumn when I got to try it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: Big Mick Date: 01 Aug 08 - 09:13 AM Pie???? There's pie involved in this venture?????? Why didn't anyone tell me there was cherry pie involved/?????? Here I have been sitting vicariously enjoying my friend's adventure, and all the while not aware that cherry pies were in play!!! People just ain't right...... I would have wandered out along the trail somewhere for some decent pie. Don't let Finn have any, but make him watch you eat it, Captain. ***snerk*** Mick |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: maeve Date: 01 Aug 08 - 08:15 AM Just to clear things up- Kendall gets a pie just for himself. Ain't nobody messing with Kendall's pie. If Micca and Barry are sweet and kind they are cordially invited to have some of the second pie I hope to make for the potluck-at-large, should I have time away from repairing raccoon damage to make a second pie. This is going to be fun. Welcome back, Micca. |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: jacqui.c Date: 01 Aug 08 - 07:23 AM At this rate I'm sure we can overpower the guy in the black leather & the smooth brimmed hat. But then you would have to take on his groupies and that's not such an easy prospect! |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: Barry Finn Date: 01 Aug 08 - 07:16 AM Hey Micca you're spiritual high will end abruptly if you mess with that apple pie Kendall's gonna have to share with me. Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: Micca Date: 01 Aug 08 - 06:38 AM KT when I saw the sign on the highway "Bear left" I did too!! An example of the kind of lovely people I met on this trip. I was at Denver Union Station waiting for the (inevitably) late California Zephyr to Grand Junction Colorado and got talking to a lady and her daughter and husband(he was not travelling) they knew about Folk music and we had a nice chat,. The Lady was carrying some craft materials to pass time on the train. Eventually we boarded, they were seated elsewhere on the train. Some hours into the journey the lady sought me out at my seat and presented me with a beautifully hand stitched book made from hand made paper that she had made. Its things like that that really lift the spirit even if the spirit is already high!!! I feel everywhere I have been I have met with courtesy and kindness from both friends and strangers, from Alaska to Maine. From the homeland Security person who kept their sense of humour when the gate chimed for the 6th time I tried to pass due to the pair of carabieners on my belt loop, to the guy on the flight from Denver who had the tall and beautiful blonde he was chatting up switched for a scruffy(ish) Gnome!!! My sincere thanks to them all. |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: GUEST,KT not logged in Date: 01 Aug 08 - 02:46 AM Guffaw! Micca, Sally has had bears at her house three times since you left. Yesterday, a large sow was peering in at her through the open cellar door....asking the now very familiar question, "Where's Micca?" Have fun, everyone, and please, hugs all around from me! KT |

Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: Stilly River Sage Date: 31 Jul 08 - 11:57 PM I love that kind of a visit, where you actually become part of the household for a day or two, help with things, participate in normal activity. It sounds like Micca is one of the family in many families across the U.S. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 31 Jul 08 - 11:43 PM Only 1/16 inch clearance all round? You should have switched to metric. That would have given you a good 3 mm or thereabouts. I'm glad you are enjoying your trip. Somebody mentioned friendly strangers. Friendly strangers are one of the things I like about my country. Today I was slowing for a stop sign when I sneezed. A young man shooting by on a bicycle called 'God bless you!' I laughed and said thanks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: Micca Date: 31 Jul 08 - 10:21 PM Well. here I am in Maine, after a day of helping Kendall to install an air conditioning unit that had 1/16th of an Inch cleareance all round and involved MUCH profane language from the participants of kind best kept amongst old sailors, and a lunch with Jacqui that had an astonished staff of a Tim Hortons wondering why these two, apparently sober, Brits were laughing continuously for over an hour. you had to be there!!! and getting some photographic help!!! I have returned Chez Sinsull, after a very nice dinner eith Ranger1 and her bloke and Sins and am suitably fed and watered and have a glass of wine in my hand, all is well with the world, I hope to go to the Press Room, tomorrow, so anyone going from Portland, with a spare seat please let me know and I will cadge a lift, It is good to be back in Maine, few things are better in life than having the warmth of your friends around you, Viva La compagne!!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: jacqui.c Date: 31 Jul 08 - 12:50 PM He's here with us, helping Kendall install the humungous big air conditioner that I found on sale at Circuit City while he was treating himself to photographic goodies. I'm staying well out of the way of the men at work right now. It's hot, the thing is going to be a very tight fit going in and I can already here the ripe language emanating from the kitchen. We went to A C Moores to get Micca a couple of tee shirts and I think that he wants anther trip there, to check out the various art and crafts items they have. I think the lad may be carrying on my daughters target of improving the economy of the USA single handed. |
