You folks in the US have weather. We, in Canada, have climate.

That dang El Niño starts right there in San Diego Caleefornia and causes all this crap to be blown all the way over here.

They say every trend starts on the left coast and spreads to the rest of the US.

Better pack yer bags... Nevermind packing the shorts and flip-flops... You won't be in need of 'um in the tundra...

Bobez:

Well, you'd have to unload that hotel first, so your credit looked good, but iffen you did that, I think Awhnoldt might jes' sell it to you. You do realize it's a turn-around operation, upside down and in the red, but maybe a nice advertising camapign or something would fix it up.

Don't ask me for help, though. Kick me out of California and I am likely to head for the Maldives or the ISlands of Kama Sutra or somp'n...

Beaubear, I think your change of plans is a good one. Buy California - one can always use a California. And I think a change of climate would do Amos a whole world of good. It's for your own good, Amos, so don't cry so.

Bill:

I am of the opinion you-all should move to Southern California, frankly. The photos demonstrate that this "winter" of which you speak is not healthy for you. Or that car, either, which I last saw looking much happier in the parking lot at Camp Getaway.

"What's a guy to do???"

Be like those Jivaro indians...plan a-head.

Beer don't spoil if you buy several cases. Oh...you DID? Well, gee.....

We were lucky...went to Safeway which has an underground parking garage, and it was fine. No milk, bread or bananas, of course, be we have milk for a couple of days and bread for a week... got boneless chicken breasts on sale and various snacks. We'll survive up to a week or more if we don't get out at all.

What's a guy to do??? Drink water??? lol... No, seriously, what's a guy to do???

That's what it is like here, too, Sawz... I have piled snow as high as my bucket goes which is.... Ahhhhh, high... Everywhere we go it's just like that... Sorry about havin' to kill ya' but that extra snow was uncalled for... Don't take it personal 'cause i'm gonna have to kill Amos, too...

The Wife and I went over to the Safeway and it was closed.

The roof fell in.

There is six foot banks of snow along all the highways. The turn lanes are not cleared.

People have to walk in street. Every place there is a place to walk is like a WW2 trench.

Half of the parking spaces are piled up 12' high with snow. Some piles look to be nearly 20' high.

There is no place to put it and maybe 20 more inches coming.

Snowmageddon is here.

Okay, I have added two people to my "must kill" list...

Sniff, I loves Amos like he was my brother but after the sweeping sunshine off their driveway, I'm gonna have to kill him... Yeah, it's gonna a bad thing but, hey...

And ppor ol' Sawz... Just never knows when to leave things alone... Gotta order up more snow so killin him won't be a hard... I mean, I been out there for three whole days digin', diggin' and diggin' more and he goes and orders up some more of this... The boy gotta go...

Yeah, leeneia, we're on to that but, as per usaul, there are other things goin' on that are harder to get a hnadle on...

Now, here's the kicker... Every piece of equipement in the County has been commondeered by the governement... Yeah, make ya' wnat join the tea baggers (lol)... But my buddy, Ed, who works on one of the larger farms in the county and has the Rolls Royce of tractors... I mean, this baby has a heated cab with surround sound stereo and a bigass one yard bucket and bigass engine and tires and all the cool stuff that folks write country songs about... Well, he just called and he's gonna give it a try... Yup, night and everything... He's gonna drive that bigass tractor up into Pine Grove tonight and try to dig the rest of the hill out... Man, geeze oh Pete...

I mean, I don't care if he actually break thru-- Well, that's not true seein' as I was resolved to walkin' the heck out in 24 inches of snow tomorrow for beer-- but the thought that this guy is gonna do this fir me makes me humbled... Yeah, I do let him use some property I own and don't charge him no rent but, hey, this is a biggie... Maybe he will break thru and I'll be drivin' out to get my beer tomorrow... Then maybe I'll buy a winning lotta ticket at the beer joint and buy California... Yeah, that's what I'llo do... I'll buy California and throw Amos out... Then I won't have tyo kill him!!! That would be nice... Maybe Amos could live in a snow covered state without no beer... Hmmmmmmm???? I'm kinda likin' this...

Come on, Ed... Bust thru, Baby, Bust thru... (Kinda a Ms. Sarah ripoff...)

Is it the quadruped-shaped object to the left of the tiki torch?

If so, isn't your dog getting a little too sedentary?

We have had light snow here in Missouri - just enough to be beautiful. I have five cardinals outside my window right now.

About that closing, Bobert...

It may be that with technology, you don't actually have to be there. If you expect it to go smoothly, you might be able to fax in your signed documents.

I believe that there are procedures in place to make facsimile signatures acceptable even in court documents.

Why don't you have a talk with the person in charge and see what can be done if you can't clear your driveway?

(we could easily manage for another week before groceries become a problem, but we MUST keep up with the snow, because our driveway entrance gets buried by the plows, and I can't afford to wait until I do NEED to be out to start....and Darriel has these two days off to help. If he wasn't here, I'd be forced to pay someone.)

It seems we (DC area) are to be on the Southern edge of the new storm, which will hit PA and further north..(Sorry, Maine)

We could get from 4" to 8" or so. This one will be colder, so easier to shovel, but some blowing and dangerous for homeless and those outside.

I sympathize. The temperature plummets here at night, ends up around an unliveable 50 degrees F., and barely creeps up to a lousy 65 F. by 9:00 in the morning. The trees, grounds and roads are all covered with piles of sunlight, which dazzles the drivers who forget how to drive during sunlight hours, and make all kinds of stupid mistakes. We have to sweep the stuff off our driveway in order to get out without being blinded....

Yeah, Eb... Just got off the phone with the closing attorney's para-legal... She's gonna talk with the purchaser's attorney and see what's what??? Then, if Thursday is still a "go" I reckon we could concievably walk down to the road tomorrow (before the next snow) morning, have someone pick us up... By the end of the day I'll be around 400 feet from the road (all downhill from there) so that wouldn't be terrible... Of course, delaying the closing a couple days would be the civilized thing but ol' hillbilly needs to get this spec house off his back so if it means walkin' thru a little snow then so be it...

Now as fir Raps snow mobile??? I think that thing would get stuck in a dry parkin' lot, ol' buddy... It ain't got any clearance... Ain't you see those snow machines they use where it really snows??? They got 10 feet of clearance and got chains that go down and turn a sprocket on the spindle... Ya' gotta climb a laddert to get in 'um... That's what I need!!! lol...

Rap, ol' buddy... Neither of those things would get down my driveway... They would get about 30 or 40 feet and the front ends would plow up a wall of snow 10 feet tall in front of them...

I just got off the phone with a guy who has a backhoe to see if I could get him to come out and dig out the bottom 400 or so feet... Hahaha, was about all he had to say.... Apparently the Town of Luray has gone around and drafted every piece of large equipement that is in the area... Like conscription...

I'm waitin' until 10:00 when it up around 15-20 degrees before trying to get Mr. Kabuto outta bed... It was 3 degrees at 7:00... But goin' up to a balmy 34 degrees today so I should get another 500 fett done by the end of the day...

Snow sucks!!!

Nancy... I'll swear by the trick of getting a roll of 6 mil plastic from Home Depot, and cutting off a chunk big enuf to cover 'most' of your car...then after you push most of the snow off, you just peel the plastic off and car is clear! No ice in the door...etc.

I have used that twice here to save cars from a predicted ice storm.

(heck, I'm due for a new roll for leaves next year....maybe I'll save you a chunk..)

Darriel & I got 'almost' to the street tonight...I guess we'll finish a path tomorrow....just in time to get out to the store too late to get anything before the NEXT round....

Your street is clearly higher on the plowing priority list than mine, Bill. Not surprising, actually. I'm just hoping they get here by Sometime Tuesday -- just in time for the next round!

I'm taking the digging-out slowly. I shoveled a pedestrian walkway to the street this morning (phase 1), and this afternoon I got MOST of phase 2 -- digging out the car -- done. Now you can see that it's a car, not an igloo. But my back's starting to hurt, so I'm quitting till tomorrow, when I hope to be able to clear the rest of the car with a snow brush (assuming I can get the door open to retrieve the brush...). Phase 3 is the hardest: digging out the driveway wide enough for the car to get through -- not to mention cutting through the plow-leavings. And it's getting harder to dispose of the stuff -- I'm having to lift it pretty high to toss it into a spot I'm not going to have to dig through later....   Ain't this FUN?!

Kendall, you can gloat all you want about how well you handle the snow in Maine, and how much of it you get. I spent four winters in Waterville, and I know Mainers take it in stride and deal with it matter-of-factly. But the fact is that this much snow is a real rarity here, and the municipalities can only justify allotting so much of their annual budgets for something that happens so rarely. Our December storm (15" here in Kensington) made it to eighth place in DC's ALL-TIME biggest snowstorms, and this one (25" here) was ranked 4th, thereby pushing the December one to 9th. Two such big storms in one winter is downright FREAKISH! Anyhow, I'm looking forward to seeing you next weekend, if I can get out of my street...

I finished right at 550 feet today but, geese, I ain't half way out... It wouldn't matter so much but we gotta make it out on Tuesday to sign papers... If it weren't for that I wouldn't care...

(But, Boberdz... Yer down to only 6 beers...)

Ahhhhh, I'm gonna have to get out on Tuesday if I have to walk out...
