I'm getting back into some of the positive parts of old routines, and have stumbled into a new hobby that absorbs me in some creative thinking. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 27 Dec 17 - 12:50 AM Yes. Happy and sad. A time for reflection. So much wisdom is shared here, on this Rainbow ship. Wisdom that can only be gained from the direct and long experience of sailing the sea of life. No wonder then, that this ship sails on, fair winds or foul. Thank you. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 24 Dec 17 - 09:07 PM It's been a hectic few days. On the 17th my (first) cousin Kathy passed away from brain cancer. My massage therapist wouldn't work on me until I clearance from the surgeon. But we went over to her house today and had brunch with her, her husband John (who was on EMT calls last night -- he works with the fire department), her kids, her dogs, and her parents. A good time! |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 24 Dec 17 - 05:57 PM Best wishes to all for a season of peace and love, no matter what you celebrate....or whether you celebrate at all. Slightly anxious time here for two aging parents. Our younger son Doug The Canaussian who lives in Toronto, Canada, had a hand operation a couple of days ago. Some time ago he was diagnosed with a vascular tumour in his left hand which although it isn't cancerous behaves like cancer, so is treated as such. Chemotherapy didn't work so he went under the knife to remove several tumours, and also had reconstructive surgery including bone grafts. He no longer has a left index finger, it's gone. Apparently the surgery went well and doctors are pleased. Seems he is one of only 50 cases known world-wide. We always knew our boys were special - but that's not how we wanted them to be unique! |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Donuel Date: 24 Dec 17 - 05:24 PM Christmas eve is a good time to update the progress of Tiny Tim. He has had some adventures like his 21 year old girlfriend and showing his face but still not going to school. A boarding school out of town is in the works where there are no laptops and freedom is earned by a point system. It drives mom to tears but the real world is a jungle he needs to learn to navigate. My proposition that children deserve intellectual freedom has failed. He is participating in Christmas customs which feeds hope a snack. Its like tiny Tim has gone from two canes to just one. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Mysha Date: 24 Dec 17 - 04:51 PM Hi, It's Christmas Eve (here). A time for reflection, it seems, but I don't have any profound words of wisdom to share. I'm just grateful for you guys (f/m) turning things over for me sometimes, so I get to see the sides I can't see on my own. I guess, this evening I'm a bit nostalgic for easier times. So, forgive me my reference to a sentimental ditty from some 75 years ago. Mysha |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 19 Dec 17 - 07:03 PM Long and tough haul here. Haven't taken the time to do any heavy lifting. Just tending FB groups and such. Might even do some laundry tonight... or tomorrow... whatever. Keeping it light. Merry Ho Ho. Dog bless us all, Tim. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: keberoxu Date: 18 Dec 17 - 07:27 PM Respected Rapparee, forgive the pedantry, but about your massage therapist -- was that won't work in you, or won't work you in ?? (rather vivid non-verbal image) |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: keberoxu Date: 18 Dec 17 - 07:26 PM Merry Ho Ho to you as well, Mudcatter Gnu. Thinking of you all especially Pete, frogprince, Mysha, Janie, and ranger1's J-Boy. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: frogprince Date: 15 Dec 17 - 12:37 PM Since it got mentioned again: you may get an adult warning if you click my link (I guess because Flickr allows just about anything) but you won't get connected to anything but the card. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 15 Dec 17 - 10:11 AM Went to the surgeon yesterday to have what stitches there were out. He's pleased and I'll see him again on the 25th. My massage therapist isn't pleased and won't work in me until after I next see the surgeon and get clearance. Yes, there is still pain, especially when the healing edges of the cuts are stretched, but it's nothing that can't be handily handled. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: billybob Date: 15 Dec 17 - 09:17 AM Oh dear, I have been away for far too long, just catching up and reading of so many sad losses of loved ones, words are never enough to heal the sadness but they are all we have. I lost a very dear cousin two weeks ago and although he had been very ill for some months and fighting bravely, it is still a shock to know that he is no longer just a phone call away, and there will be another empty chair at the Family Christmas dinner. A death of a loved one is never easy but at this time of the year when others are full of joy and happiness it is very hard to put on a brave face.As many of you know I lost my darling mother at Christmas 2 years ago, the loss is still there, sometimes it catches me out when I see a familiar figure in the street and then realise that it isn't mum, but an elderly lady with the same hair or walk! But Christmas was her favourite time, she loved to see the children open their gifts, her delight was a full house, everyone sat round the dining table sharing Christmas memories of years past. So the circle turns and our memories this year will of happy times we shared with mum and remind ourselves how lucky we were to have her in our lives. Wishing you all much love, healing thoughts and prayers, happy memories of loved ones no longer here. Wendy |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: frogprince Date: 14 Dec 17 - 09:13 PM I'm at home (Michigan) running the snow blower a little for the first time this season, and preparing to fly over to my family in Minnesota next week, which will be the first time I've gone alone in 34 years. I'm holding up okay, and getting reminded of how good some of our friends are. Printing and stuffing Christmas cards today. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: keberoxu Date: 10 Dec 17 - 12:52 PM Rapparee, I don't envy you this, and I sincerely hope the results of the surgery are successful and an improvement over your condition pre-surgery. Is this carpal-tunnel stuff from a lifetime as a librarian? |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 09 Dec 17 - 10:06 PM The cut at the base of my hand is perhaps a half an inch wide. The one on the backside of my elbow is about five inches long. Both hurt, the long one the most (unless I bang one or the other and then that one hurts the most). |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ChanteyLass Date: 09 Dec 17 - 07:56 PM Rapparee, I'm glad you are recovering but wish you were pain-free. I'll try to remember your advice but hope I never need it. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 09 Dec 17 - 03:55 AM My apologies to all; the Christina Rossetti poem was intended for all who grieve, for all whom loss & sadness are unbidden, unwelcome visitors. I did not make that clear in the post. Season's Greetings & a Happy New Year to the Rainbow Crew & 'Catters everywhere, With Love, Nigel. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 08 Dec 17 - 10:17 PM Rapparee is recovering with as little pain as survives the pain meds. The splints came off yesterday, now it's just elastic bandages and good gauze pads. And meds. Suggestion: if you ever have this sort of surgery, do not accidentally stretch or knock the injured parts. That causes you to say things that would cause Sister Innocenta of the Spring Flowers to swoon. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Pete from seven stars link Date: 08 Dec 17 - 05:48 PM I found the song Janie. Good song . I was singing to tommy at the end of his journey too |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: keberoxu Date: 08 Dec 17 - 02:43 PM Sending sympathy to frogprince as the memorial service takes place this weekend. Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 07 Dec 17 - 08:05 PM Ahhh. Hearts breaking open and releasing love into the world. Terrible. Beautiful. Somehow, we sail on. Pete the song I linked to that wasn't available in the UK on that link was written by Ola Belle Reed. I am aware of 3 recordings. 2 by Ola Belle Reed and one by Critton Hollow String Band. I think you would really like it so maybe your own google search will turn up a recording available to you |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 07 Dec 17 - 06:53 AM Echo By Christina Rossetti Come to me in the silence of the night; Come in the speaking silence of a dream; Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright As sunlight on a stream; Come back in tears, O memory, hope, love of finished years. O dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet, Whose wakening should have been in Paradise, Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet; Where thirsting longing eyes Watch the slow door That opening, letting in, lets out no more. Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live My very life again though cold in death: Come back to me in dreams, that I may give Pulse for pulse, breath for breath: Speak low, lean low As long ago, my love, how long ago. (Source: https://www.familyfriendpoems.com/poem/echo-by-christina-rossetti) Tomorrow, Friday, I shall be attending the funeral of a former student. We kept in touch over the years & in all that time, he unfailingly addressed me as 'Sir'. Most students make the change from 'Sir' to 'Nigel' or 'Mr.P' eventually, but not M. I remained 'Sir' until his letters stopped. |
