There is late night footage from the dining hall as well. (I haven't had time to go through everything included on the rest of the tape) The company no longer does PC_CD ROM only DVD. Any questions about compatibility, check here YES Video PM me if you want a copy and I'll have them made before Getaway. I can get them done for $11 including tax. tinker |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: artbrooks Date: 11 Aug 08 - 12:10 AM OK...perhaps it is more accurate to say that Firefox doesn't work. It is just fine until the last screen of the registration - where you come to payment options - and where "credit card" doesn't show up for me in FF but does in IE. I admit to total ignorance about Opera. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Bill D Date: 10 Aug 08 - 10:41 PM Art... I just accessed both the PDF form and the 'sign-up' form in Opera. I can find nothing that suggests I need IE. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: SINSULL Date: 10 Aug 08 - 11:07 AM I have been a member since my first Getaway. I don't vote in the elections because I don't believe just joining gives me that right but membership is the least I can do, I think, to support the Getaway. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Genie Date: 10 Aug 08 - 04:57 AM Thanks for the info, Charlie. I really want to pay by credit card (for various reasons) if that's feasible, and I think I have to register online to do that. Any ideas on why a perfectly valid credit card (Discover or Visa) wouldn't go through at the FSGW website? We ALL get the geezer discount? LOL As for the newsletter, you may be right that it'd make me jealous. But the Pacific NW isn't exactly chopped liver when it comes to folk music and folk dance events, either. (You should come visit out here some day! You'd have to put up with more rainy days - but softer, lighter, and more episodic rain - but a LOT less snow and ice, less humidity, and more temperate summertime temperatures.) :D Can't stick around till Monday night. Art B and Jen and I are carpooling it to NC on Monday , where I'll be visiting family. I do plan to make it to Fortunato's music thing (whatever it's called) on Thursday, the 2nd, though. -Charlie Baum |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Charlie Baum Date: 09 Aug 08 - 11:14 PM Genie-- The newsletter only rate does not give you discounts on events, so it's not going to help you there. The newsletter DOES have a hardcopy form you can print out and mail in with a check, and if you give me your snail-mail address (by private message or emailing me at president (at) fsgw.org), I can snail-mail you a registration form. No special geezer discount?--EVERYBODY gets the geezer discount. Bill D is right--the membership gives you a newsletter and discounts on FSGW event, but unless you plan to stick around and go to concerts or dance while you're East, it won't give you a lot of monetary benefit, except a monthly newsletter to see what a folk society in the East can program. We have something like 250 events a year, and then we list everything else going on in our area, which will only make you jealous and want to move here, and put up with heat and high humidity just to take advantage of all the folkie things. After the Getaway, you'd have to stick around until that Monday night to take advantage of a concert discount. And we have two concerts and a dance the weekend previous. -Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 and FSGW membership From: Genie Date: 09 Aug 08 - 04:34 PM OK, apparently FSGW does not have a geezer discount (prob'ly 'cause we folkies're pretty near all gettin' to be geezers these days?). A 1-year membership would be $33, which would knock $20 off the cost of the Getaway registration. Since I'm rarely in the DC area, the other $13 would be basically a donation to the cause. Not unthinkable, that. Q: the FSGW page has an Out-of-town Subscriber rate of $25. I guess that means "newsletter subscriber," but does that count as a membership for purposes of registering for the Getaway? I did try to sign up and pay for the $25 Out Of Town Subscriber thing, but I couldn't get my credit card to go through, even though there's no reason I can figure out why it wouldn't. (My account info is correct, the account's open and solvent, and the card is one of the ones listed at the sight. No idea why the transaction wouldn't go through, and I'm wondering if I could pay by credit card over the phone.) I also tried to register for the Getaway online, and I filled out the form but that didn't go through either. I can't print at the moment (printer SNAFU) and anyway I can't pay by credit card if I were to print the reg. form and mail it in. Anyone know where/how I can actually register online and pay by credit card? (PayPal may be messing me up. Long ago I opened an acoount and it was closed and apparently cannot be reopened by a mere mortal. It took me ages to get any info from the PayPal folks, because I'm wary of opening their emails because so many emails that claim to be from them are actually fraudulent - something PayPal has actually warned about - and email is the only way to contact them. Aarrggh! Finally they told me someone had tried to use my account fraudulently so they closed it, but I still can't figure out the hoops they want me to jump through to reopen it. And the catch-22 is that I can't open another account using my name, address, or email address. But when I tried to pay FSGW by credit card, I got a message that "You have a PayPal account," and a request to lof in -- which I obviously can't do. That's why I'm hoping I can pay by credit card over the phone and leave Pay Pal out of the loop.) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Genie Date: 09 Aug 08 - 02:53 PM Thanks for the info, Bill. Good point, Dick. I guess for me (being a Pacific Northwester) the big question is "How much would my "vote" cost?" (Off to see if I can find the FSGW website.) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: dick greenhaus Date: 09 Aug 08 - 01:56 PM One might consider membership as a vote for continuing the getaway. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: GUEST,Bill D...trying a different browser, no cook Date: 09 Aug 08 - 01:52 PM Genie.. there 'are' a few folks who subscribe/become members JUST to deal with the Getaway, but some also like the news and profiles of different folks we have for concerts....or, if they travel this way often, to follow events and make plans. The newsletter is mostly a listing of the many, many events...song, dance, storytelling..etc., in the Greater DC area, so if you are not here often, the Getaway may not be enough reason to spend the membership $$ every year...besides, most important stuff is online for free at FSGW.org |

Next on the agenda: sign up for the Getaway. I guess it's cheaper if you're a FSGW member. Charlie B, since you're the pres, I'll ask you this: For us West Coasters, are there other compelling reasons to join FSGW besides getting a discount on the Getaway? Just curious. Genie : ) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Charlie Baum Date: 08 Aug 08 - 07:45 PM There are tables to sell CDs and other stuff from. Usually, most people leave the stuff out all weekend with a box or envelope to put money in, or a note to find you and settle up. While Canadian money is at parity with U.S. currency, folks in the U.S. look at it with great suspicion, while other countries will sometimes take US$. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Marion Date: 08 Aug 08 - 05:51 PM Do a lot of people bring their CDs to sell? (I'm trying to get an idea of how much American money I'm likely to want - or do you guys prefer Canadian money anyway these days?) Marion |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Charlie Baum Date: 08 Aug 08 - 11:48 AM If you've registered on-liner at the FSGW website, you DO NO'T need to send in the form, unless you want to tell us about housing or diet preferences that you didn't do on-line. But the .pdf gives an optional way of registering to those who don't do electronic transactions, don't have a computer, or are just Luddites (like many of us). --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: ClaireBear Date: 08 Aug 08 - 10:43 AM Charlie (Baum), sorry but now I'm a little confused about the registration process. I already used the "sign up" button, filled in the form on that page, and pre-paid by credit card last week -- so just to make sure, I'm not meant to fill in this 2-page form and send it too, am I? That other form IS really a Getaway registration, isn't it? Just checking... Claire |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Charlie Baum Date: 07 Aug 08 - 10:39 PM At long last, the registration form for the 2008 Getaway is available for downloading. Print it out, fill it in, and send it back to Dean Clamons, the registrar at the address on the bottom of the form. We made the form two pages this year to make it a little more readable and hopefully, a little less confusing. The Getaway is a weekend of music-making and socializing with folks from the local Washington, DC area and from all over the world. Note that it's earlier this year than the past couple of years—the first weekend of October—which may mean possibilities for gatherings outdoors. We have 50 rooms with beds in heated (and air-conditioned) buildings. You'll need to bring bedding, pillows, and towels. We'll provide comfortable beds, with bathrooms and hot showers down the hall (with separate men's and women's facilities in every building). There are lots of bunk beds, and there's a discount if you'll accept an upper bunk. You can even bring a tent or an RV (but no hook-ups available). Because the camp charges us, RV or tent campers can get no discount beyond what you'd get for taking an upper bunk. Our public gathering areas and several of the bedroom buildings are handicapped accessible. If you can't handle an upper bunk, please let us know. We can also handle special dietary needs—let us know in advance. We even have a kitchen available to us 24/7 with refrigerator, freezer, and microwave, if you want an in-between meal snack. There is NO SMOKING is allowed in any of the camp buildings. Because it's a facility run by the Methodist Church, we are asked not to bring any alcohol. We have rates for one, two, or three nights, and one for day-trippers who don't want to eat. (You MUST register in advance if you wish to dine!) If you register for two nights, your registration fee covers three meals and a late-night snack both days on Saturday and Sunday. A three-night registration gives you an additional night's lodging and breakfast on Monday morning. One-night registration gives you all meals and snacks on either Saturday or Sunday and, if you wish, a bed on either adjacent night. Our rates have gone up a little this year because the camp's charges to us have gone up. If it's a problem, don't worry—the scholarship fund is healthy enough to ask for a price-break if you need it. --Charlie Baum |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 SURPRISE!! From: Big Mick Date: 07 Aug 08 - 06:43 PM So, if you are hanging on the fence about going to Getaway this year ...... Because on the way to Getaway this year, I am swinging up to Toronto and picking up none other than (drumroll please, maestro), the one, the only............................ Which, of course, means this is a gathering not to be missed. This is going to be fun, folks. All the best, Mick |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Charmion Date: 03 Jul 08 - 12:59 PM Great, Peg. I'll PM you to swap addresses and phone numbers so we can set it up. Don't worry about paying for gas; one of the many nice things about our car is that it is a fuel-stingy diesel -- a full 50-litre tank is good for close to 1,200 km on the highway. Throw in a flop for the night (I'm fine on a sofa) and breakfast coming and going, and we'll be square. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2008 From: Peg Date: 02 Jul 08 - 11:46 PM Charmion--what a nice offer, that sounds great. We (my fiance and I) live pretty close to the highway (he would not be coming tho). Sharing gas costs is going to be the way to go this year. I will most likely bring a tent as I am a light sleeper. I cook a mean breakfast, too. I still have to double check the dates to make sure I can go, but it looks good. Thanks for the recommendation, Barry! It was great to get caught up with you at the session and share some songs. |
