Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 10 Apr 14 - 12:57 PM Up, Nigel! "... apologise for blathering on..." No need - you never need to apologize. That's why we are here. My thoughts and prayers to you (and to all, of course). As for the wait, take solace in the fact that they review the files in the order received and they do it twice on accounta they wanna get it right. Besides, and I know this might sound like 'real' blather, ain't nothin ya can do about the wait or about the opinions. I've come to find therapy lately in hitting that there You Tube and watching comedy stuff before bedtime and early in the morn for 15 to 30 minutes. Try it. Here's a suggestion... copy and paste... Christmas Presence (Part 1) - Simon's Cat Enjoy, relax, laugh together with me, with us? It's just a silly bit of fun but it helps me. I hope it may help you (and, perhaps, others). Bless all. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 10 Apr 14 - 12:34 PM Amanda Marshall rocks! It's official...you heard it from gnu & now me. What more provenance do you need? Just attempting to control an on-stage fantasy..... my old Fender Tele slung round my neck! Nigel xxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 10 Apr 14 - 12:16 PM Thank you so much, Maeve. Physically, I guess you could say I've 'run aground'. Several clinics to attend over the next couple of weeks...beginning to feel a bit like clutching at straws, medically speaking. Gnu, I'm going to listen to your link. I think Music links would be the most helpful, along with some poetry. Somehow, I've got to get this old brain of mine back in gear. Thinking clearly & short-term memory are the main issues. A recent CT scan showed some damage, but I'm still waiting for comprehensive feedback from my Doc. Don't these people understand how waiting for several weeks, not knowing what's actually 'going on' is soo anxiety provoking? I apologise for blathering on...feeling very down & debilitated. With love & hugs to you all, Nigel xxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 09 Apr 14 - 02:30 PM Music? Well now! I know of a lovely Canuck lady musician who has a theme(s) that runs thru her music. Empowerment of women and education of young adults thru her songs. Her amazing song 'Birmingham' brought a great impetus to the awareness/promotion of battered women's plights/rights in Canada. Here is another such song which DOES reach young people on more than one level on more than one issue. Whilst some may view it as just a rock song to be played at HIGH volume and danced to, I view it as a triumph by this artist and socially conscious individual. It speaks volumes. Again, it is rock music. Speakers on ELEVEN! Amanda Marshall, Sunday Morning After (Snake Tottoo) |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: maeve Date: 09 Apr 14 - 02:02 PM Thanks, g. Nigel could use some encouragement ...perhaps music links, poetry, something for laughter something for comfort, a destination for which to set sail. So could we all, eh? Maeve with cookie for now. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: GUEST Date: 07 Apr 14 - 08:34 PM Home again. ChanteyLass- Nope, I'll be on call more and more. Thanks for the thought, anyway. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ChanteyLass Date: 07 Apr 14 - 03:55 PM Pete, I hope you can manage that trip to Winchelsea. There's a will, so I hope there's a way. Maeve, I hope options open for you sooner than you think. Janie, the Johnson Girls have been booked for this year's sea music festival, but even when they are not booked they are usually there for the festival and sing a song or two at the late-night pub sings and also the January Chantey Blast afternoon. Anyway, I look forward to meeting you whenever you do get to Mystic. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: GUEST,Maeve, away from the farm Date: 07 Apr 14 - 02:17 PM Wendy, so glad you will have some respite. That would be wonderful... Not an option for us. Janie, hope your family trip brings sweet memories of your dad, and new memories of your family time. Can't write more now...UP for all on board. Maeve |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: GUEST,pete from seven stars link Date: 07 Apr 14 - 01:55 PM UP spaw, UP ,Karen, wishing healing, wholeness and restfulness all round. trust billybob, that a delightful time continues in nelsons county as you are assured of reliable carers for your mum. we are planning to go to the caravan at winchelsea for a few days tomorrow, with tommy in plastered leg....if we can manage. hope you have a clear trip, Janie, though probably tinged by some sadness. I think that is the first time I have heard ladies doing sea shanties, and a nice job they do of it. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 06 Apr 14 - 10:02 PM My fingers didn't walk well on the keyboard in that last post. Glad you could translate and forgive the typos. One of these days I'm gonna make it to Mystic. Any combination of the Johnson Girls works for me. Any song that moves us together, or reminds us that we are much better off joined together works for me also. Seems right now that seas are calm for some and quite rough for others. What matters, regardless,is a stalwart crew and that we have in spades. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ChanteyLass Date: 06 Apr 14 - 09:27 PM Stay on board with us, Bassen! Janie, I've been playing the Johnson Girls CD with that song lately. Coincidentally, I spoke briefly to one of them, Bonnie, at Mystic Seaport on Saturday. Maggie no longer sings with them. I believe she has moved too far away to make rehearsals and performances possible. She was not on their third CD. Even with 4 voices instead of 5, they sound great. Your weekend sounds like it will be a positive experience. And Wendy and Billy, I hope the rest of your weekend away from home continued as well as it began. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 06 Apr 14 - 08:57 PM Lovely, Wendy. And what gnu said. The 3rd anniversary of Daddy's death was a few days ago. It didn't seem appropriate -and I didn't have a strong need to remark on it at that immediate time Talked with Mom tonight about plans for the family to go up to the University the Saturday in May for their annual memorial service for people who donated their bodies. Family emergency prevented us from going up the year his ashes were scattered and due to a glitch in the University's system we were notified of the date last year. Will be a long day at that Saturday, driving to Morgantown and back to Mom's - and also a lovely day. Looking forward to it. My nephews, who my parents raised after Kaye died are riding up with us, sans grandnieces (who I delight in, but are so young that they demand alot of attention.) I have no doubt it will be a good trip and a good visit and it will be settling to finally have an image and memory of where Daddy's ashes landed. It would have been OK regardless, but definitely better to finally have a mental space with a visual image. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 06 Apr 14 - 07:27 PM What wonderful posts! I shall sleep more soundly tonight after reading them. Thanks all. Bless. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: billybob Date: 06 Apr 14 - 06:51 PM Billy and I are in Norfolk, for a week. We have hired a small cottage but tonight have our daughter and her husband and two girls and our son and grandson with us. My cousin has hired a large house with swimming pool (lovely) with all his family . So today there were 21 of us having lunch, then swimming then dinner. I cannot tell you how much laughter and fun there was. Reliving old family memories around a huge kitchen table. Mother is safe at home with her carers. But Billy and I are having a rest surrounded by our wonderful extended family. Sending all our love to the Rainbow crew. Wishing you all a peaceful and contented night. much love Wendy and Billy xxxxxxx |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: bassen Date: 06 Apr 14 - 06:39 AM Hi guys. As a veteran lurker who's been around since the late 90s but only posted infrequently, I felt like saying I use this thread like I used to use the whole Mudcat. Here I find people interacting in kindness and generosity. I find evidence that we have more in common than we think. I was always more of a reader than participator but such is my nature. The way I use the Mudcat now, I start on "Messages since last visit" and go down the names list, finding the threads that a small handful of names have posted on (looking at you 'Spaw). Names from the "old days". More and more, I pretty much just end up on this thread. Even though most probably don't recognize my moniker, I'm thankful that I still belong to this family, however noisome and contentious some of the more distant cousins have become. Best wishes and good thoughts to you all. Bassen aka Sverre Johan Svendsen |

Aging kinda' sucks...............Just spent a week in the hospital trying to fix the unfixable once again but alas.....Aging kinda' sucks........No......It definitely sucks!! But the look of Spring is arriving in Ohio which is encouraging and Karen who has been having real problems with a root canal which is still infected looks to be better. She looks totally worn out with her job, her health problem, and most of all the effort it takes to keep me going so give her a good thought! Much Love Spaw |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 04 Apr 14 - 06:59 AM CL... actually, Mum took the power outage better than she did worrying about the possibility of one. Thanks for the concern. The crews had everyone back on line yesterday, two days sooner than promised. It was very tough for a lot of people, especially kiddies and their parents and, more so, elderly people. Spring is teasing us. I hope it comes for all of us, metaphorically speaking, of course... wouldn't wanna leave out those below the line (southern hemisphere). >;-) |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ChanteyLass Date: 03 Apr 14 - 09:59 PM Nigel, I too hope you are feeling better. Gnu, I'm glad the power came back on. Those must have been a long six-and-a-half hours for you and your mum. Sandra: good ones! |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 02 Apr 14 - 08:25 AM a bit of an April Fools fun from Australia & Canada - passed on by JennieG Read this on the ABC news site today - a wombat dairy! I thought it was a corker. The best April Fool I found online today was from West Jet, a Canadian airline, who announced a new class for flyers - Kargo Kids, whereby kids fly in the cargo compartment while their parents (and everyone else) rides in quiet child-free comfort in the cabin. It was on youtube, and was hilarious. she's not wrong! sandra |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 02 Apr 14 - 06:39 AM Mean? My power was out for 6 1/2 hours. I didn't mind it but Mum did. That's kinda mean. Worse, there are still 10k without power, mostly in two villages/areas, and many will be without until the weekend. It's the kiddies and the seniors I feel sorry for. Cold temps wind wind and the government had cut snowplowing services so badly that many people couldn't get to the Red Cross or community 'warming centres'. But! This AM, it's NOT!!! snowing or raining or... Temp is suppose to go up to +2 so some of the ice will melt. I dunno why most everybody is shoked and surprised that we had a stretch of 'weather'. Hey, we knew the forecast for a month. "In like a lamb, get ready." they say, eh? Small potatoes considering the woes of others in this thread and the various sorts of devastation around the world, natural and man made (especially the bullets). I count my blessings and wish the same to all. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ChanteyLass Date: 01 Apr 14 - 10:46 PM I hope everyone got through April Fool's Day with only jokes that made everyone laugh and no mean "jokes." |
