Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: Becca72 Date: 12 Oct 12 - 09:23 AM Exercise is good for arthritis, too. Pushing 80 with "no serious medical conditions" says the man who started a thread about seriously high blood pressure... You opened this door, I merely chose to walk through it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: gnu Date: 11 Oct 12 - 07:17 PM BTW... I shall conduct an experiment when I achieve stasis in the same state as when my BP went too low. Specifically, I wish to investigate the use of eating cherries for lowering BP. Cherry season is well over but I shall find a way as soon as I can recreate the circumstances. I believe eating cherries works but I have no evidence until I test my theory in a controlled manner. Right now, my BP is up and I have reverted to Coversyl Plus and self-medication to reduce it. It is working but I'd rather eat cherries. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: Bat Goddess Date: 11 Oct 12 - 06:26 PM I take a combination (2 pills taken together) of atenolol and lisinopril. Atenolol alone didn't do the job. Tom has the opposite problem. He takes metoprolol, but was ordered not only to stop taking the lisinipril, but to take his blood pressure before he takes the metoprolol to make sure it's not too low. Politics is the spoiler these days. Hard to get an accurate BP reading with all the bullshit being slung. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: gnu Date: 11 Oct 12 - 04:45 PM "If I ever have to give up my drivers license it won't be because of my eyesight." Forget my prescription of "self-medication" (whiskey). I was gonna mention staying in a calm environment with little stress and dim lighting... like the cellar. Now... listen up BIG TIME... 107/64? Here's something you HAVE to do that is MORE important than "paying attention" to high blood pressure right now. Do NOT do anything to raise that pressure quickly. That includes getting pissed off because you should have not used a crescent wrench and just skinned yer knuckles. That includes digging potatoes at more than a VERY leisurely rate. That pressure is pretty low and, although MUCH better than high pressure, it can cause problems if it is increased rapidly. If you experience ANY changes in vision or have ANY feeling of dizzieness or light-headedness, immediately drop the wrench and all strenuous physical activity and breath deeply, calm down and walk slowly until it subsides... do NOT operate any machinery... do NOT drive. I can explain all of that as a doc explained it to me when it happened to me but just trust me, take my advice to heart and discuss smae with your doc tomorrow. PS... my GP said "no connection" between your eye problems and low blood pressure, but, if it happens again, see an eye doc. It did. I saw my eye doc and he was PISSED! Called my GP and explained it to him while I was sitting in his exam room. My eye doc to me to eat salty potatoe chips once or twice a week until my BP stabilized.... I like him. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: kendall Date: 11 Oct 12 - 03:57 PM In the first place, no one but Jacqui and I knows how much time I spend in the recliner. Second, I have arthritis in every joint which makes exercise painful. Third, I'm pushing 80 with no serious medical conditions. My eye doctor told me just yesterday that I have two of the most healthy eye he has ever seen. No sign of Macular degeneration, and no sign of any aging. If I ever have to give up my drivers license it won't be because of my eyesight. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: Rapparee Date: 11 Oct 12 - 03:25 PM Good cardiac exercise, Kendall, can be had by going down to the local tavern, picking out the biggest son of a howah there and beating the crap out of him (or her). You should do this for at least twenty minutes every morning and evening. Soon you will find that your blood pressure had gone down and stays down. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: Becca72 Date: 11 Oct 12 - 02:03 PM You need 15-20 minutes of cardio exercise every day - getting your heart rate up to the necessary levels. Working on cars, building boxes and digging 10 potatoes is not cardio. And before you accuse me of being the proverbial black-calling pot, I am seriously overweight, true, but my blood pressure is perfect and I take no medications....I also work out for an hour a minimum of twice per week. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: Becca72 Date: 11 Oct 12 - 01:51 PM You also spend a large portion of your day sitting in the recliner...just because you are the same weight, does not mean you are in shape... |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: kendall Date: 11 Oct 12 - 01:39 PM Becca, I am the same weight I was at the age of 19. I still wear the belt that was issued to me when I joined the Warden force in 1958. Working on antique cars is exercise. I just built a plywood box to house the well pump down cellar. Digging potatoes helps. Running my mouth and jumping to conclusions, not so much. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: Elmore Date: 11 Oct 12 - 10:07 AM Glad to hear the new drug helped. I had a similar problem, and my doctor prescribed Azor. Expensive as Hell, but it did the trick.Like Charlie Noble, my cocktail of choice is the rusty nail, but I've had to cut back on those. Ah, the golden years. Best of luck, Kendall. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: SINSULL Date: 11 Oct 12 - 09:08 AM How often are you taking it? Once a day at the same time after sitting quietly for a while will give you a more accurate picture. Blood pressure fluctuates with exercise and stress. If you just finished attacking the car for stalling and stormed into the house with "syphilitic son of a whore", don't take your blood pressure. SINS |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: Rusty Dobro Date: 11 Oct 12 - 08:29 AM 'Kendall, here in UK, if one has a BP of 210 over 107, one would be hospitalised immediately as a medical emergency.' Not so: the nurse apologised for a malfunctioning monitor when I clocked up 212/140, tried another machine and got the same result. I was immediately placed on a regime of bisoprolol, perindropil and co-amilofruse, which soon got it back to an average of 120/76. At the time I was managing a hectic office, and my father was in a terminal illness. May have had something to do with it... |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: Becca72 Date: 11 Oct 12 - 08:17 AM Exercise and High Blood Pressure Many medications exist for lowering high blood pressure, but you may prefer to take a more natural approach to lowering blood pressure. Exercise can work as well as many medications for lowering blood pressure, and there are no unpleasant side effects. Moreover, exercise can increase overall health, including regulating moods and sleep patterns. You may choose exercise alone to treat high blood pressure or in combination with dietary changes, medication or other lifestyle adjustments. Exercise strengthens your heart, which means your heart doesn't have to work as hard to supply blood and oxygen to your body. When your heart isn't working as hard, the stress on your arteries is less, lowering your blood pressure. In addition, exercise helps control your weight, which is another factor that contributes to high blood pressure. In some cases, regular exercise is enough to lower blood pressure without medication. |

Subject: BS: Kendall's blood pressure From: kendall Date: 10 Oct 12 - 07:48 PM I've had a battle with high blood pressure since I was in my early 20s. The last few years it has been controlled with Metoprolol, but the last 4 days it has jumped around like a fart in a mitten. Now, it's too high, top of 212/107 low of 98/77. I have an appointment with my Doctor on Friday. He just prescribed lisinopril. Here's a good one for you, my ex wife has forbidden me to die before she does. She said she can't imagine living in a world without me. If she had felt that way 16 years ago we would still be together. WOMEN! |
