Subject: RE: African Folk Songs From: GUEST,David Byrne Date: 28 Mar 08 - 01:03 AM The tune is right on the money. I chose G because it's Mixolydian, so I only needed white keys and didn't need to further complicate the notation with accidentals.. hm.. oh well. Thanks, DB |
Subject: RE: African Folk Songs From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Mar 08 - 12:47 AM Not a bad system of notation, David - except you didn't specify a key. I tried G, and it didn't quite work. So, I left off the key signature and this is what I got: Click to playDoes that sound more-or-less like your tune? Can't say I recognize it, but I haven't listened to Sweet Honey in the Rock for a while. If you can send me a better MIDI, I'll be glad to post it. -Joe Offer- joe@mudcat.org |

Subject: RE: African Folk Songs From: GUEST,David Byrne Date: 26 Mar 08 - 11:14 PM Hello - Looking for a song I heard "Sweet Honey in the Rock" perform a few years back, I came across this thread and I'm hoping someone could help. It's simply one phrase repeated many times, the rhythm: E= Eighth note Q= Quarter DQ= Dotted Quarter H= Half DH= Dotted Half Rhythm E E | Q Q DQ E | Q H E E|Q Q DQ E | DH Notes: G G |G(up) F D C | B G G G|F(up) D C D| B Sorry for the semi-awkward presentation. The phrase was started every 2nd and 4th beat. I can't remember if the syllables were actual words or not. Any help would be great. Thanks, -DB |
