We now use NoteWorthy to make scores of all the new songs we do but this song was written back in the dark ages (1996) either before NoteWorthy existed or at least before we knew about it.

Yeah, I think I've got it figured out. I was just trying to fit the syllables to the tune to make a NoteWorthy Composer score of it.

Haruo:

There's no sound file that we're aware of and we don't know that anyone's recorded it.

In the second line of verse three the emphasized syllables are:
"Comp", "A", "va" and "free". Does that help?

I'm having a little trouble getting a couple lines (especially the second line of v. 3) to scan to the tune. Is there a sound file or melody line graphic somewhere I can look at?

Haruo:

Glad you feel better now! We were unaware of the Cyber Hymnal situation. Joe Offer posted something about it on another thread but we didn't quite grasp the significance of what he said.

Please feel free to use this song. It was written as a parody on "Royal Telephone" precisely because we felt that song needed to be updated. And, as you pointed out, even the parody now needs to be updated.

The "Royal Internet" was published in Sing Out! a few years back and is fairly well known in the San Francisco Bay area.

May we use it in church? I think a set of the three (Turn Your Radio On, Internet to Glory, and www.jesus) would go well in our hymn-sing. (I think "The Royal Telephone" itself is just a little too outdated, technologically, for our crowd. Folks don't remember what "Central" was. But the tune is great and your text is quite usable as long as the theology is corrected by www.jesus. Compuserve is passé, but many still remember it and those who don't will think they should.)

One gripe though: please stop using links to cyberhymnal.org and use the correct current location of the true Cyber Hymnal™.
http://www.hymntime.com/tch/ replaces http://www.cyberhymnal.org/
The Cyber Hymnal's old ISP ran off with the domain name and has added all kinds of unfriendly ads and whatnot. The original developer, who owns the trademark Cyber Hymnal™ but sadly didn't own the domain name, had to move the material to www.hymntime.com/tch/ and that is where fresh material is being posted. The folks who stole the domain name unfortunately have priority at Google so their business did not dry up, but anyone who knows what happened should be boycotting them and booing and hissing them publicly. It should have been a crime. It was a sin. They should not get away with it. If you have a website that has hymn links to the Cyber Hymnal, make sure you update the URLs.

So use this link: Royal Telephone.

Thanks for letting me vent.

From: Bev and Jerry

And, in a similar vein, here's one we wrote back in 1996:

THE ROYAL INTERNET
(Bev & Jerry Praver)

CHORUS
Internet to glory, oh what joy divine
I can feel the data moving on the line
Built by God the Father, are you hooked up yet?
You can talk to Jesus on the royal internet

1. God is never busy, reach him in a flash
   U - R - L - H - T - T - P colon double slash
   W - W - W, dot L - O - R - D
   Dot E - T - E - R - N - I - T - Y dot N - E - T

2. Fail to get an answer? Satan's crossed the wire
Brought you to temptation, made you play with fire
You must stop your surfing, go to God direct
And you'll get your answer on the royal internet

3. There will be some charges, you must pay the fee
To Compuserve or AOL, salvation's never free
Once you've paid your money you will see the light
When you point your browser to the Lord's own holy site

4. Satan and his helpers cannot get control
Of this line to glory anchored in the soul
Stay on the straight and narrow - do not turn aside
Right through your compuer you'll be "cybersanctified"

The tune is "The Royal Telephone" which can be found here

And can be listened to, hope they don't mind. I'm planning on including it (together with "Turn Your Radio On", probably) in this October's Evergreen Hymn-Sing #4, "Foot-Stompin' Hymns".

Yeah, I'm hoping he'll have pity on us, all we got was a notice that if we wanted it we had to come to another concert and pick it up, which was on a night when we couldn't come...

What I want to know is where is my CD? They played bait and switch, got us to fill out address labels and then told us we had to come to another show to get the disk.

Subject: Woad
From: Haruo
Date: 25 Nov 09 - 04:32 AM

Incidentally, at least for me, and maybe even moreso than www.jesus, the high point of the evening for me was "Woad", which I've never heard sung before except by myself, and my command of "Men of Harlech" is much less fluent and much more a cappella than the Whateverly Brothers'! Loved it!

The low point of the evening was that on the way there a pickpurse swiped my wife's wallet as she was boarding a bus at Third & Pike. By the time we realized it was missing (2 AM Sunday morning) the thief had already run up more than $2,000 of fraudulent debit card charges. Luckily we didn't realize it was stolen when it was, so we were able to enjoy the concert to the fullest extent allowed by law.

From: ChanteyMatt

The CD should be ready by early February.

The Whateverly Brothers

(Joe Prater)

Last night I talked to Jesus on the World Wide Web.
I found Him on the Internet and this is what he said:
"Son, you don't need computers and all them fancy things.
All you need's your Bible to hear the angels sing.

"You don't need no software except what you got on,
And you don't need no hardware 'cept what He wrote on stone.
You can't download salvation; you can't click your mouse on faith.
Follow the commandments and you'll reach the Pearly Gates.

"You don't need no modems just to talk to Him.
All the gigabytes in the whole wide world won't save your soul from sin.
You see, Satan's got a webpage and he wants you to click on.
The road to Hell is broad and straight and paved with CD ROMs.

"The next time that you're on line and surfing on the net,
Put this in your hard drive and remember what I said:
The best way you can talk to Him is on your knees in prayer.
You don't need no email to reach the Man Upstairs."

I also heard the "Whateverly Brothers" sing this song last Saturday night in Seattle at a live-recording concert. It's a great song. But you'll just have to wait until their CD is released.

But there seems to be two groups with this same name. One is in New Mexico (Santa Fe). But the one that sings www.jesus is in Seattle (Geoduc Music). I'll see if I can get the words from one of the Bros.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

Request the lyrics from them on Myspace or their own web site.

I found the Whateverly Brothers (which is a great name, by the way) at MySpace, CDBaby, Geoduc Music, and their own web site, but no sign of www.jesus.

It does seem that they write most of their own music, though.

It's about time we had something like this, although I thought it would be a little more approving of the evangelical qualities of the World Wide Web.
I still haven't figured out one thing - to get healed, do I put my hands on:

    A. The CPU (box)
    B. The Monitor
    C. The Modem

Yeah, something about just needing your Bible to hear the angels sing. (Wife reminds me)

Me wife and I went to a CD-recording concert of the Whateverly Brothers this evening, and one of the songs they sang was entitled "www.jesus". I would really love to get the complete lyrics and heck, even the sheet music, and do it in church (maybe in a "technology cantata" along with "The Royal Telephone" and "Turn Your Radio On").

It was something like this:
"I talked Jesus tonight on the World Wide Web,
I met him on the Internet and this is what he said,
You don't need no computers to talk to God,
Just your Bible" and I have forgotten the rest...

They said it was "by a friend of ours from Bainbridge Island". More than stated deponent knoweth not.
