Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fair Maids of Loughrea: lyrics? From: GUEST Date: 20 Aug 14 - 06:40 PM Thanks. Appreciated. Did a search for "Loughrea" and there are elements of the song I'm talking about mentioned in the lyrics for Lady of Loughrea (http://mudcat.org/Detail.CFM?messages__Message_ID=2432589) and The Pretty Girls of Loughrea (http://mudcat.org/Detail.CFM?messages__Message_ID=2617976) but no trace of the Irish in the English of either song so perhaps you're right about Jimmy Connolly's version being, in fact, two different songs. Look forward to more info on this. Thanks. |

If you search here on "Loughrea", you may find the songs involved. Not really a macaronic but two related songs , one in Irish, one in English. I'll get back with more detail tomorrow, if possible. Subject: Lyr Req: Fair Maids of Loughrea: lyrics? From: GUEST,Aodhán Date: 20 Aug 14 - 04:49 PM Would anybody have the words for the macaronic Irish-English song The Fair Maids of Loughrea? Its history would also be great. I can't find any record of it online apart from this fantastic version[/url] from Carna's Jimmy Connolly (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Mm5nhVbV78). Thanks a million. |
