Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 09 Nov 00 - 02:51 PM I'm sorry to say that I don't remember the name of the small town where I bought the tapes. It was a very small one on a fjord, and it had a souvenir shop for the tourists. Of course, that sounds like a good many towns on the fjords. The owners must be proud of their heritage, because they had a little tape player outside and where playing Norwegian music for all to hear. One tape is called "Old Time Dance Music" and the other is "Music from Norway - Tussefloytelater" by Egil Storbekken. The first one is from Grappa Musikkforlag, and I guess Egil published the flute tape himself, because I don't see a company name on it. My DH (dear husband) and I were taking a cruise on the fjords, and I would go up to the library of the ship, sit down in front of a huge window, put on my headphones, listen to this beautiful music and watch the scenery go by. It was heaven! |

Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,Angun Date: 09 Nov 00 - 05:06 AM Hi Leeneia, We have a few pubs with Norwegian music, but not enough I think... Where in Norway where you and what did you buy? |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 08 Nov 00 - 11:06 PM I took a trip to western Norway this past summer and bought some great tapes of traditional Norwegian music at a souvenir shop. It is wonderful stuff. Why don't you play some of it at the pub so that it doesn't fade from view? Of course, perhaps you do. |

Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,Sam Date: 10 Mar 00 - 02:16 AM Hi ye Bold Norsk, I have a whisky bottle (empty) sitting in Norway - stolen by the NRK TV "Gringos" two years ago (ie Petter Nome et al)...;^) Despite their promises, it never arrived home in New Zealand at the start of this millenium. See: http://www.commercial.co.nz/~rakiura/Y2KW/ Somehow, I feel you may be the people I need to set that bottle on it's homeward journey. In fact, mudcat.org could probably give the bottle the journey of it's lifem - one I would love to do. In the meantime, any of you Norski-Celti, who care to check the above website, and like the idea, please get back to me by e-mail - I'm sam@southnet.co.nz I'll be away from home for the next week, being the "Fluid Druid" at a Celtic festival on the mainland. Sorry for being "off-topic" Slainte - Sam |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,Håvard Date: 09 Mar 00 - 07:45 AM That'll be great, I'll try to come there. You could also drop me an e-mail at Havard.Rokke@pki.uib.no Håvard |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,Angun Date: 09 Mar 00 - 06:25 AM Hi, The session at The Harp( Bryggen) is almost every first Thursday in the month.Usually there is fiddle, uillean pipes, flute and bouzouki, and the tunes are mainly Irish and Scottish. As for the songs, it´s not singing everytime, but when it is it´s usually "standars". I can leave a message here next time it will be. All the best, Angun |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,Håvard Date: 09 Mar 00 - 04:25 AM Angun - I haven't been at the Harp session, when is it on? I would think the session in Finnegan's is something similar, the tunes are mainly Irish/Scottish/Shetland and the songs are "standards". Håvard |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: Osmium Date: 08 Mar 00 - 06:51 PM Come on John, I know you can do better than this. And if, as I suspect, most of you Norwegians or pretend Norwegians were absent from the recent song challenge check out the Moose story. I expect to hear the best being sung the next time I'm in the Dubliners (back bar et all). |

Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,Martin Ryan Date: 08 Mar 00 - 08:54 AM Havard I sailed on the Staatsrad Lehmkuhl during the Tall Ships race last year. The captain (Marcus Seidl?) is a big Irish music fan. I remember him describing the Dubliners (the real ones - not the pub staff!) playing on the foredeck of the ship in Bergen. One of the watchleaders on the trip was a Norwegian music student who sang shanties very well. Good luck with the session. Regards |
Subject: RE: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: John Wood Date: 08 Mar 00 - 05:52 AM Hi Håvard Message received loud and clear! Takk for sist foresten. Hope we get to see you at the Dubliner again soon. Greetings John(Oslo) |
Subject: Come All Ye Bold Norwegians.... From: GUEST,Håvard Date: 08 Mar 00 - 04:57 AM Thought that would catch your eye....
We've recently established a Celtic-influenced session here in Bergen. It's on every Wednesday at about 10 p.m in a pub called Finnegan's Wake (original) downtown. The atmosphere is unpretentious, but there is true enjoyment of playing, and the beer is free for musicians.
If your situated in the area, or maybe further down the West-coast (e.g. Stavanger), try to visit us sometime. This also perpetrates to "the Dubliner"'s crew in Oslo, whenever you visit our sunnt town. (You're hearing this John?) |
