Subject: RE: BS: National Smith Day From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Jan 03 - 02:06 AM Yeah. It begins with a thought. "I'm talking too much." A neuron fires. Ping! More neurons fire. Pong! Pang! Pung! The nerves controlling the yapper then begin the shutdown process... And... ----------------------------------------------------- |

Subject: RE: BS: National Smith Day From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 07 Jan 03 - 12:49 PM You beat me to it Little Hawk! Mind you,a few years ago I did attempt to have Princess Diana's birthday declared a national holiday -- it's July the 1st (and by a bizarre coincidence my birthday too!)--- and that was such an abject failure, I'll leave the organizing of National Jones Day to somone else. Subject: RE: BS: National Smith Day From: Wesley S Date: 07 Jan 03 - 12:05 PM Well it's about time I had a holiday. Next year I'll be prepared. How does one celibrate Smith day ? I've got some ideas but I doubt any of them are official. |
Subject: RE: BS: National Smith Day From: Dave Bryant Date: 07 Jan 03 - 11:28 AM I have just rung Essex Girl (who is of the Smith clan) to wish her a happy day. She now expects me to take her out for the special meal which I wriggled out of, because her Birthday clashed with her firm's xmas party. I must learn to keep my big mouth shut. I must learn to keep my big mouth shut. I must learn to ......... |

Subject: RE: BS: National Smith Day From: CarolC Date: 06 Jan 03 - 09:17 PM In Newfoundland, January 6 is "Old Christmas". They celebrate twelve days of Christmas, and that makes Jan. 6 the last day. I kind of like that custom because the usual practice is to put the tree and stuff up on Christmas Eve, and then take them down on January 6. None of this business of leaving the decorations up from Halloween until Valentine's Day. And JtS tells me that people do a lot of visiting around with each other for the 12 days that they Celebrate Christmas. He says it's a very warm and homey way to do it. |
Subject: RE: BS: National Smith Day From: Sorcha Date: 06 Jan 03 - 08:08 PM We used to only smoke the Weed on Holidays.....we had one of those calenders too, grin. |
Subject: RE: BS: National Smith Day From: Little Hawk Date: 06 Jan 03 - 07:58 PM Trust me, Steve, they have no idea either. It's like the Easter Bunny. People have a way of responding like Pavlov's Dog. I can't wait till National Jones Day. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: National Smith Day From: Maryrrf Date: 06 Jan 03 - 07:51 PM Wow, too bad I didn't read this thread until "National Smith Day" was almost over! I'll have a glass of wine and celebrate anyway. |
Subject: BS: National Smith Day From: RangerSteve Date: 06 Jan 03 - 06:31 PM I got a desk calendar for Christmas that contains all kinds of useless info on commemorative days, weeks and months. Today, Jan 6 is National Smith Day. (In the US). Folks named Smith, Smythe, or it's variations like Goldsmith, are supposed to celebrate. I have no idea why. Or how. So, for all you Smiths out there, have a happy one. And January is National Oatmeal Month, and National Hot Tea Month. Do they do things like this in other countries? Like I said, I've got a whole calendar of this stuff, so be prepared for me to bring up similar threads whenever I find a good one to report. |
