Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Alio Date: 16 Apr 03 - 08:54 AM And I'm free! (well, Libran anyway!) We're there with the Roaring 40's. It's a great weekend - only problem is I always arrive back home with no voice (to Geoff's relief) and a hangover following the copious amounts of wine. See you all there, Ali |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: clansfolk Date: 16 Apr 03 - 06:59 AM Bad news...... The three Mariners Landlord has had to put a block on any singing during Thursday day other than at 4.00-4.30pm when the "show" goes out! - scared of the PEL Police? as his license does't start until Friday....... so don't turn up for a sing during the day on Thursday there as it won't be going ahead....... The BBC Blue bus WILL be there and everyone is welcome to pop in have a play on the computers/internet or try and stump Chris with a PC problem (Not PEL PC....) NB. NO SINGING................. Till FRIDAY.................. DOH!! NNB This has NO EFFECT on the festival proper just BBC cover on Thursday. |

Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: clansfolk Date: 14 Apr 03 - 07:14 AM er..... now I'm confused - it's the same as this one which possibly the same as the other one if it refers to the blue bus - that is if it was my entry you were refering to Ms Lemon if it wasn't sorry for interupting.... Pete ;-) |

Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: clansfolk Date: 14 Apr 03 - 06:48 AM Edain... et al The bus will be at The Three Mariners from 10am - Normal show format: Maria will be doing interviews during the day (I've put her in direct contact with Scolds Bridle and Red Duster) + pre recorded material, The Bus will be giving access to the internet plus IT advise all day - during the day there's usually 3-4 very short broadcasts - saying whats going on... and advertising the 4pm show - at 4.05pm the show goes out with recorded and live interviews etc....... during the programme there's a 3 or 4 min break for traffic news..... Jan Lardner - co-presenter of Lancashire Drift will have her show on Thursday night 8pm (Radio Lancashire) which is also dedicated to the Festival and will be there over the weekend with Ken wearing Chantey Cabin hat with a great range of CDs (even though she hasn't any of ours!! So come along..... we'll get up there at about 10.30-11.00 am and see if there's any objection to sessions in the pub (I can't see any problems but you have to ask!) and hopefully it should be a nice day..... Pete |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Edain Date: 13 Apr 03 - 05:46 PM Clansfolk, sounds great that there'll be some airtime, I'll have to see if I can beg, scroung or borrow transport (or I suppose theres always the train) |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: GUEST,Lady Nancy Date: 13 Apr 03 - 04:47 PM Just read the bumf on Lancaster Maritime.. Any pub music sessions? Or is it really singers of shanties with out without recognised sailor/shanty costume? If there are "fringe" sessions I will make the 140 mile round trip...Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Crane Driver Date: 13 Apr 03 - 03:05 PM Recognise Mudcatters from T-shirts, badges and twitchy fingers from computer withdrawal symptoms ...... See you there Andrew |

Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Geoff the Duck Date: 16 Feb 03 - 11:53 AM I am looking for a Sailor's Hat to present to my wife..... |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: GUEST Date: 15 Feb 03 - 08:31 PM I know it will be Rhiannon's last festival as she and her husband are leaving the Three Mariners soon after - so to all the people who've enjoyed her hospitality over the years, here's a chance to say byebye |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Skipper Jack Date: 15 Feb 03 - 02:47 PM Baggyrinkle are there on the Friday & Saturday. I suspect that there will be many of the regular performers there. |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: GUEST Date: 14 Feb 03 - 07:53 PM Well, I'll be there cos I want to see Tim Laycock with The New Scorpion Band. I remember seeing Brian Gulland in Gryphon many years ago - see how he's weathered compared to me! |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Snuffy Date: 14 Feb 03 - 07:45 PM a bit difficult when the fringe locations (pubs) are used as Festival venues. I don't fancy trying to start something fringy in a pub when Johhny Collins is performing there! |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: GUEST Date: 14 Feb 03 - 07:22 PM I know what snuffy means, but isn't a 'fringe' supposed to be 'fringey'. Perhaps you shouldn't expect it to be organised for you? Isn't that the idea? |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: nutty Date: 14 Feb 03 - 03:28 PM Lancaster .... being held on a Bank Holiday is a 4 day event. Not all artists are booked for all four days many are booked for just two - so there is lots of variety. Parking can be a problem on Friday and Saturday but Sunday and Monday there are OK and lots of people with campers park (and sleep) along the quayside. There are a variety of venues, from smoky, noisy pubs to posh hotels and a cracking arts theatre. I only manage 2 days (usually Sun/Mon) but always enjoy myself. |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Mrs.Duck Date: 14 Feb 03 - 12:42 PM I'm at Lancaster for the first time this year but then I am a stout middle aged teacher who plans to bellow out shanties!:¬)) (No sailor cap though !) |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Hawker Date: 13 Feb 03 - 02:43 PM Snuffy! At last We may meet! I will be at Miskin too! It was WONDERFUL last year Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Snuffy Date: 12 Feb 03 - 07:35 PM Pro: It's free There's lots happening in the pubs, as well as concert venues Con: There's no camping nearby - you have to do B&B or travel in There's no fringe to speak of - it's basically "shut up and listen" in the pubs, rather than singarounds. I've enjoyed it previously, but I'm giving Miskin a first try this year (hope it's more "fringey"). WassaiL! v |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Skipper Jack Date: 12 Feb 03 - 04:02 PM Well, Mr Happy! I am not a teacher, architect or social worker. I do not dress up in fisherman's clothes. Come to think of it, I am not even middle aged!! I enjoy the Lancaster Maritime Festival. |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: GUEST,Guest Ian Date: 12 Feb 03 - 02:08 PM Isn't Mr Happy a happy chappie, and only small percentage right. But he won't believe that 'cos his his minds made up. |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Edain Date: 12 Feb 03 - 02:05 PM Not really Mr Happy, there is a press gang that roams around by the museum area (and the odd batch of mummers). There are many venues, most of which are free entry (I think only the museum and the final night do are pay for but could be wrong there). There are sessions in several pubs and some outdoor performances behind the meusem and in the town shopping area itself. I've been many times and enjoy it every year. |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Mr Happy Date: 12 Feb 03 - 12:25 PM i guess its the usual sort of stuff- a lot of stout & middle aged teachers, social workers & architects dressed up like old time fishermen, some with 'captain' caps on- bellowing out shantys interminably one after the other! 8-) |
