Subject: RE: Scots Gaelic Classes in Boston From: GUEST,Statesthebleedingobvious Date: 10 Jan 04 - 07:14 PM What's the point of learning Gaelic? They are speak English in Scotland? |
Subject: RE: Scots Gaelic Classes in Boston area From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 10 Jan 04 - 07:08 AM I looked at the web page and I see the Gaelic course is just two hours a week for the six weeks. I'm sure it's still worth learners' while enrolling, but I would not describe that as a "crash course"! |
Subject: RE: Scots Gaelic Classes in Boston From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 10 Jan 04 - 06:15 AM Chunnaic mi 'ur seann teachdaireachdan air Mhudcat. Tha e gu math gu bheil thu an-seo a-rithist. (Ach chan ann ann am Boston a tha mise; is ann an Eirinn a tha mi.) Tha mi 'n dochas gum bi sibh a' sgrìobhadh mu cheol cuideachd. I'd been curious about Cliff as I noticed his old messages in song threads. I hope you have a good turn out for the class. There are a variety of Gaelic-language notice boards on the net, have you tried publicising the course on some of these, Cliff? Some are mailing lists, others are on-line forums just on the webpage(BBC-Alba has one, for instance) I'd recommend intensive courses as they help you reach a take-off point from which you can continue to teach yourself even if a class isn't available. by the way, there are a few correspondence courses in Gaelic available also. But it is good to have people to talk with when learning a language! |

Subject: Scots Gaelic Class in Boston From: GUEST,Cliff McGann Date: 09 Jan 04 - 03:38 PM Howdy Folks, I Just wanted to let those in the Boston area who might be interested know that a Six Week Crash Course in the Scottish Gaelic Language is being taught through Middlesex Community College in Bedford begining March 2nd 2004. I'm the instructor and the class relies heavily on folksong as teaching aid. Anyone interested in learning Scot's Gaelic songs will find the class beneficial. I did my BA in Celtic Studies in Nova Scotia and it was there that I first began learning the language. I also have an MA in Folklore from Memorial University of Newfoundland. My goal wit is to get a more active Scottish Gaelic Society going in the Boston area as its long overdue. For more info on this class as well as my Irish/Scottish Folklore Class through Middlesex Community College: Middlessex Community College Webpage or by phone @ 1-800-818-3434 Móran taing, Cliff McGann |
