Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Jan 06 - 08:55 PM 27, and I'm ashamed. The amendments got me, and that's to be expected. Numbers keep changing. What bothers me is the one about English not being the official language. I knew that one, but flubbed it anyhow. I just finished my homeschooling duties for the day, and my mind is mush (and my stepson's mind is mushier). -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Les from Hull Date: 05 Jan 06 - 07:28 PM The thought of a similar UK quiz fills me with horror. Most of our own citizens couldn't produce an accurate representation of our own flag! (It's a bit tricky, with that counterchange of saltires) I got 23 on the US one. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Claymore Date: 05 Jan 06 - 05:51 PM Got a 28 and wouldn't have missed those if I had read the comments above: I too thought Eisenhower was born in Abilene (Pretttiest Town I've Ever Seen) and thought English was our official Language..Damn! Gonna have to work to change that... Bobert and I think alike... Double Damn! Gonna have to change that!!! And Chamrion... you should have consulted your husband...;} And if you look at the total results of the quiz, the mode occurs at 21 correct, with a classic bell curve running from 14 right to 30 right answers. Not bad, and far better than those street quizes they give people in New York... |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Folkiedave Date: 05 Jan 06 - 04:36 PM I'd love to see a United Kingdom quiz. My guess is that I could answer perhaps 10- and they would have to be the general knowledge type. There is the King William's Test here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,1673168,00.html You might find it a bit more difficult than the American one though!! In fact if you can get ten out of 180 without research you are doing well! Rembemer USA citizens this is for school pupils!! |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Charmion Date: 05 Jan 06 - 11:39 AM I blew the questions about amendments, and thought Abilene (birthplace of Gen Eisenhower) is in Kansas. Score 22 -- adequate for a Canadian! |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: DMcG Date: 05 Jan 06 - 08:22 AM Then how do you know you haven't answered a question correctly by accident? |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Paco Rabanne Date: 05 Jan 06 - 04:53 AM I scored 0. But that's probably because I haven't done the quiz. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: The Walrus Date: 05 Jan 06 - 04:36 AM 22 But then, I'm on t'other side of the pond. W |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Deda Date: 04 Jan 06 - 11:07 PM Only 26. I'd do better on a quiz about ancient Rome. I didn't know which one was born in Texas (knw that Bush wasn't), wasn't clear about the term of a senator. Mea culpa, mea culpa. But I imagine most "average" American voters do very badly on this. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: kendall Date: 04 Jan 06 - 09:54 PM I knew that majoring in American history would come in handy some day. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Hrothgar Date: 04 Jan 06 - 03:45 AM 25 - not bad for a furriner. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Hrothgar Date: 04 Jan 06 - 03:26 AM 25 - not bad for a furriner. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Bobert Date: 03 Jan 06 - 10:56 PM 28.... Okay, the official lamguage got me and Ike, the Texan got me... Okay, I still shouldhave known there wasn;t an official language,,, Hey, I do know that.... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Amos Date: 03 Jan 06 - 10:32 PM I got a 27, which is a passing grade. at least; I found some of the questions kind of obscure, and got them wrong. Shoulda done better. A |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Bill D Date: 03 Jan 06 - 10:03 PM 25...and I simply read too fast on one. Like several others, my specific knowlege of the amendments is shaky. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 03 Jan 06 - 09:49 PM In 8th grade US History I missed a test question regarding the number of amendments to the U.S. Constitution; I missed by one, forgetting that the term limit amendment for President had recently passed. That was the only question I missed on this test, tonight. If nothing else, I am at least consistant. John |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Ebbie Date: 03 Jan 06 - 05:15 PM Simplistic isn't so much the word I would use, Tom, as 'factual'. I kept expecting some element of trickery but it stayed true to its format. It feels like a school quiz. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Ebbie Date: 03 Jan 06 - 05:10 PM True, true, Nigel. There is a button to push if one questions any answer. I didn't go there, but it might be interesting. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: curmudgeon Date: 03 Jan 06 - 05:07 PM I got them all right. But I did teach U.S. History and government for well over a decade. Overall, the test was a bit simplistic - Tom |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: gnu Date: 03 Jan 06 - 05:04 PM Who was the President during the civil war? George Bush? Oops... that's the next Civil War. (27) |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Nigel Parsons Date: 03 Jan 06 - 04:45 PM Not quite Ebbie. I've put up a few quizzes here, so I'm careful about wording. The question was: Who was the President during the civil war? The title of the quiz was Independence Day, so there was no reason to insist that Lincoln was the expected answer. CHEERS Nigel |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Ebbie Date: 03 Jan 06 - 04:34 PM Not really, Nigel. The question was Who was president of the United States. Davis never was. One of the two questons I goofed on was on who declares war- sheesh. On the other two I didn't know the answers. I'd love to see a United Kingdom quiz. My guess is that I could answer perhaps 10- and they would have to be the general knowledge type. |
Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Nigel Parsons Date: 03 Jan 06 - 04:18 PM 21 from a UK perspective Trick question about who was President during the civil war, It was either Lincoln or Jefferson Davis depending on which faction you followed! CHEERS Nigel |

Subject: RE: BS: USA History Quiz From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 03 Jan 06 - 03:57 PM Oooh. 24. I've forgotten some of the stuff from my citizenship test. Mostly the amendment thingies. Seamus |

Subject: BS: USA History Quiz From: Ebbie Date: 03 Jan 06 - 02:23 PM Please excuse me if this has gone 'round before. I didn't find it by filter. It's not a trick quiz, for which I'm glad. I scored 26 but there were a couple of questions in which I just plain goofed- knew better but clicked the wrong one. www.toast.net/games/Independence/page1.asp Hmmmm. The URL works but the clicky doesn't. |
