http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32586706/ns/health-swine_flu/

I just read an article on health workers' refusal to get vaccinated against the H1N1 virus. None of their objections were a surprise to me except for one. According to the article, manufacturers of the vaccination against H1N1 are exempt from liability suits.

So if you take the vaccine and have an adverse reaction (a bunch of people died in the 70s from a vaccine that was rushed through in advance of an epidemic that never happened)you have no recourse. That also opens the door to sloppy handling and manufacturing, cutting corners on ingredient quality, etc.

Who is manufacturing the shot? Where is it being manufactured? How are the manufacturers chosen (the lowest bidder? The fastest producer?)

Canada has placed an order for over 50 million doses from GlaxoSmithKline, their Canadian plant. The government has budgeted $2.7 million for safety and effectiveness studies.
Announcements by Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, and PHAC.

Clinical trials in September-October and vaccinations available in November. The federal government will cover 60% of the cost, and the rest will be borne by the provinces and territories.
Information at www.fightflu.ca

In the States, Baxter International (Illinois) is in full production.
I have not checked for U. S. programs.

The number of cases in Texas schools are growing, now that school is back in session. I think one school in Dallas reported 90 cases this week.

Are they diagnosed as Swine Flu? (For years the opening few weeks of school were plagued by absenteeism due to colds and flus of various sorts.) It's like spending eight weeks in the outside air and then being stuffed in a box with 20-30 other people.)

"Canadian doctors probing the worst cases of swine flu in Canada have made a striking finding: 40-year-olds, many previously healthy, appear most at risk of developing severe H1N1 disease.

The finding is based on global reports of illness and case reports from critically ill patients in intensive care units across the country. The investigation confirms the virus behind the first flu pandemic of the 21st century does not fit the typical patterns of influenza.

Significant, doctors say, is its ability to cause serious disease in previously healthy people."

Texas Christian University reports 30 cases of symptoms, ten confirmed. (Fort Worth). The 90 cases in Dallas schools not yet confirmed.
Dallas County had 431 confirmed cases of swine flu by August 4 according to the Dallas Morning News (Associated Press, Aug. 27, 2009).
However, Dallas County stopped accepting samples last May.

Texas will be a black hole in reporting; common flu is not reportable in Texas, and it is pretty well up to institutions to arrange for testing for swine flu among their students. Reliable data may be hard to get.

You sure they're not talking about vaccinations when they say that?
