Now I totally concur with folks who are talking about what values society has placed on them or the perceptions etc. I am much more interested in the person within the body than what it looks like. Cosmetic dentistry is my "cross to bear" having people coming in daily who want white teeth etc when they are not at all interested in dealing with the dental disease they have. It is pretty much a job of reeducating though. I think the bog boob phase is running its course though as my daughters were talking to Jayne saying that people who get these giant boobs are mostly Nascar fand nowadays. I don't know exactly what that means but I thought it was a great menatl image! grin

Re the first post. Spot on, Bobert. Heat the schools first. And, if the government wants to "help", why don't they enact legislation requiring a lifetime guarantee and make the manufacturers and surgeons set aside monies in a fund to ensure proper care and services for the recipients?

I think the government is involved at the moment because of the differing opinions of the industry and women who have had the gel implants done or wish to. It is not really a case of the government meddling. The Feds had shut down the gel implants because of complaints and are now re-reviewing the issue since the industry says it has come up with a safer and more reliable product. At the same time, there are women who are testifying with their horror stories and on the other side of the aisle are women who have had great results and are saying that the alternative - saline solution - that had been approved by the Feds is not as good or safe as the prohibited gel.

I don't have an opinion yea or nay in the case of vanity augmentations, but I do know that for women who have had breast cancer and want to equalize the two sides and for women who NEED breast reductions it can be a sanity saver.

I actually agree with Ebbie here. bobert, you should be glad that we have a food and drug administration that monitors what products are out there and tests them for safety.

This is another aspect of the dysmorphic attitudes of society. It probably bridges (no pun intended) two things - one the infantile association of breasts with (feeding) pleasure, and the other the Victorian (maybe earlier)fixation on virgins (therefore not gravity-dependent breasts) as an insurance to avoid cuckoo syndrome and therefore greater likelihood of gene survival. The latter leads also to depilation. IMHO.

The rest of the mammals of the animal kingdom don't have breasts at any time other than when they are feeding babies. Humans are possibly the only mammal that has breasts all year round.

The rest of the animal kingdom therefore focuses on bottoms (as do quite a lot of female humans.... Damien Barber.... oooohh.....[slap]....) as the 'attractor'.

The theory is that the fixation on human breasts by the male of the species, is because of their resemblance (when correctly displayed) to bottoms.

I agree about reconstruction following surgery - in those circumstances that would be something I would consider seriously and I suppose that any problems that have been discovered and sorted out as a result of the numbers undergoing purely cosmetic surgery would help those women for whom this is a necessity.

I was entering report card marks into the school computer system. I am usually on call as a fire/rescue guy from about 4:00 PM until 6:00 AM next morning on school days and from 4:00 PM Friday until 6:00 AM Monday. My job is school teaching. My volunteer work for the fire department only has me on about 80 or so calls a year. That's about one call every 4 1/2 days. I have been doing the volunteer work for about ten years. Almost 2/3 of my 10-1s (ten-ones) completed. They are the courses that full-time firefighters require to join full-time departments. Love the fire/rescue work very much.

The three women depicted in the Over The Top link are not gross due to their large breasts, or anything else.

If they've had that done cosmetically to draw attention to themselves, they have certainly succeeded (I originally typed "exceeded" instead of succeeded - as some sort of Freudian typo perhaps).

In any case I sympathize with them. It would seem to me that the extra weight above the waist might cause other physical ailments, such as back problems, but I'm not a doctor. They seem not to care a whit for sympathy in the photo, however. They appear happy and content.

And big breasts or no, they are attractive women.

According to my local newsrag, which occasionally reports minor items like this correctly, the vote was 5 to 4 in favor of continuing the ban on use of the proposed implant materials. Apparently this case is closed pending further tests and resubmittal of the manufacturer's request.

John, there were two companies presenting claims to reissue their silicone breast implants. In the recommendations forwarded to the FDA, one company was allowed to, the other wasn't. The FDA can say yes or no to the recommendations. The data presented by the successful company didn't run as long as that presented by the unsuccessful one, but it was apparently more convincing. I'm not convinced by this that either one has good data--its routine for companies to present data in their favor. I would want to know who produced it and who paid for it before I accepted any of it as useful.

Guest, the three women in that photo had "augmented" to a point of absurdity. They look like candidates to tour with the circus.

Unfortunately, they placed it on about page 12F, just in front of the comics, so I probably scanned past it to get to the good stuff, but I don't believe they mentioned a result for the other company.

A later TV report (almost as reliable?) was discussing some limitations on use of the other one, but I didn't catch the whole thing. It sounded like they may have limited it to reconstructive use only?? Or not.

My "extensive studies" of representations of "feminine beauty" over the period from about 1240 thru 1940 indicates that very little has changed in that time. There are quite evident differences in "total body mass(?)" probably reflecting the availability of food and amount of foraging required in different eras, but the proportions of one body part to another seem to reflect a very consistent "standard gorgeous" concept in art. Natural is best, in any quantity - except when Mother Nature plays a really dirty trick on you.

(I need to get my "study" printed, but my current printing facilities just won't handle the Braille edition properly, and I know that's the one that would be most in demand.)

I agree they overdid the 'augmentation' part, but it must've been something they felt deeply about in order to tolerate the concomitant problems evidently inherent in such a topheavy physique, not to mention the social scrutiny they must receive.
