Subject: RE: BS: What would you not miss if it was gone? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 24 Sep 07 - 09:51 AM I take it "Virgin trains" are trains operated by the same company that owns Virgin Airlines. But what aare "white van drivers". I drive a white GMC van when I'm hauling my pottery to art fairs to sell. Does that make me a white van driver and, therefore, worthy of disdain? If so, should I paint my van some other color? Buy a few dozen cans of variously colored spray paints and invite people over for a van painting party? |

Subject: RE: BS: What would you not miss if it was gone? From: John MacKenzie Date: 24 Sep 07 - 10:33 AM White van man is often given too many deliveries by his greedy employer in the first place. In the second place, he is often trying to deliver to house without a name or a number on the door, or at the end onf a long drive with the name beside the doorway, and unreadable or invisible from the road. Doorbells often don't exist or don't work, householders often say they were in when he called, in spite of his having battered the door as loud as he can. When they say "I was in" what they mean is, they were about, in the garage, in the garden, in the loo, in the shower, etc etc. Then when you do find them in there is the pantomime of not signing until they've opened it, to check if it's intact. It's OK sir/madam just endorse the signature unexamined. No I need to check. OK I'll wait. "This is not what I ordered, take it back" I can't. Why not? Because it says TNT on the van outside, and your parcel came from Harrod's. You collected it surely you can take it back? Madam, this is Inverness and Harrod's is in Knightsbridge, I didn't go down there and collect it myself so I could deliver it to your door for the princely sum of £3.50 per parcel! I've been there and done that, and it is a very frustrating job, so try and look at it from the other side please. Giok |

Subject: RE: BS: What would you not miss if it was gone? From: GUEST,rock chick Date: 24 Sep 07 - 01:30 PM Yes David Carter you are right about Virgin Trains, GNER (Great Northern Eastern Railways) are just as bad! Toilets normally not working, air con broken, seat booked to three other people, no seats, no food in the buffet, nowhere to put your luggage, although they do normally run on time Sorry John 'Giok' Mackenzie, but white van drivers are unbelievably rude and mostly very dangerous drivers, they sit 2" from your bumper flashing their lights, when in fact there is nowhere to go, I for one will not be intimidated by there so called road rage and will not be forced to break the speed limit. I think I am a reasonable driver, I was driving u[p to 1000 miles a week at one time but I VERY rarely get angry in the car, cross with drivers that take stupid risks yes but road rage…not me. John I am sure you never behaved in such a manner ;-) and I am sure you are one of the rare breed of white van drivers who is not a bad driver, but they are few and far between. Anyway I was talking about these menaces when on the motorways, as for delivery, well yes I can quite believe what you say. |

I bet you could link the upsurge in aggressive driving and excessive speed directly to the increase in coffee emporiums. However, current research reveals that in moderation-a few cups a day-coffee is a safe beverage that may even offer some health benefits. The September issue of Harvard Women's Health Watch weighs the pros and cons of this popular beverage and eases the concerns of moderate coffee drinkers. http://www.health.harvard.edu/press_releases/coffee_health_risk.htm |
