Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 02 Sep 03 - 07:27 PM Hi!! There will be a limit of $20/£15 to spend on pressies like last year. I do hope you will all take part and if you sign up please send you santee a pressie as I was made aware that some people didn't recieve a pressie from their Santa. There will be a hints thread too when veryone has their santees....I trust artbrooks or 'spaw will start it again!!! Looking forward to another season of fun and hints!!! Khatt |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Micca Date: 02 Sep 03 - 07:36 PM Count me in too, I had such fun, partly due to a very enthusiastic and itinerant Santa who seemed to whizz about all over the USA like a badly made firework and send cards from the different places visited!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Amos Date: 02 Sep 03 - 07:45 PM I will gladly play again, CP. But I do have to register a protest that we are not even in Autumn yet!!! A |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 02 Sep 03 - 07:51 PM All right. I'll play the game this year. Word of warning though: It doesn't matter how much somebody hints about what they want. I'm a potter. They're gonna get a pot. It's inevitable. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Burke Date: 02 Sep 03 - 07:57 PM Count me in as well. It's been fun both sending & receiving. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 02 Sep 03 - 08:05 PM I'm in! I now have 4 friends around the world, 2 Santas and 2 Santees! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: izzy Date: 02 Sep 03 - 08:10 PM What's all this about, please? (If nobody minds explaining)? Thanks, Isabel |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 02 Sep 03 - 08:16 PM Isabel, the participants send CatsPHiddle their names and addresses. She draws names, matching a Santa with a Santee, gift-giver to gift-receiver. Most people don't reveal who they are until they send the gift, but give silly hints in threads here. (they log on anonymously) It can be a lot of fun, plus, as I said, I now have friends in England, Scotland and Cape Cod! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Kim C Date: 02 Sep 03 - 08:18 PM Me! Me! Me! My info is still the same - but do let me know if you don't have it. :-) And Bruce, if you should get my name, I love handmade pottery. KFC |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: izzy Date: 02 Sep 03 - 08:28 PM What sorts of things is one supposed to send? This sounds interesting! |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: artbrooks Date: 02 Sep 03 - 08:42 PM To my knowledge, last year's gifts included books, t-shirts, pots, home made jelly/candles/candy/cookies/jewelery, CDs (especially welcome from people with their own bands)...and the possibilities are endless. |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Rustic Rebel Date: 02 Sep 03 - 10:28 PM I'm in too! Sounds like a lot of fun. As a matter of fact I was already planning on sending whoever my Santee is a homemade special. Peace Rustic |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Sep 03 - 11:10 PM I did a little research. Last year this started on October 9, more or less. Given time to think, then to manufacture a gift or to shop around, it was enough time for most folks. But some gifts took a really long time to make the trip, especially crossing oceans. So starting now isn't a bad thing, especially if we opt to send to another continent. For your reading pleasure, from last year: SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Clinton Hammond Date: 03 Sep 03 - 01:26 AM The fun of this is supposed to be, not HINTING at what you want... the fun is supposed to be the empty handed leap into getting something from someone who you might not even know... I'm hoping that this year, I'll be able to take part, seeing as how it was me who apparently brought the idea to Mudcat in the first place... And I've never been able to play yet! :-) If I can sign up though, I can promise you I won't be seen in the hints thread! LOL |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: open mike Date: 03 Sep 03 - 02:57 AM well i got burned and do not plan to be a part of it this year. i had a bad year and was counting on enjoying the santa thing and put a lot of energy into the gift I sent but did not get one in return. bah humbug. |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 03 Sep 03 - 03:29 AM Clinton....of course you can take part this year but you need to PM me your details!!! SRS.....decided to start it early this year because I have quite a demanding job and work quite a lot of over time so it gives me time to organise it all and the santas to buy/make pressies and post them. I think the best thing is to send pressies recorded delivery if it doesn't cost too much more that way the parcel can be traced should it go missing. I think in the UK it costs about 64p extra on top of postage. I know when we post abroad we pay the little bit extra for piece of mind more than anything else. I really enjoyed myself organising this last year...it was great I knew who got who and watched as they tried to work out their santas from the hints thread!! Lots of response this year already!! We had over 60 catters taking part last year lets see if we can beat that total this year!! Khatt (Secret Santa's Secretary 2003) |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: mooman Date: 03 Sep 03 - 04:35 AM Happy to be counted in again! You never know...last year's present from my Santa (which I know was posted) might even arrive before Christmas this year...! mooman |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Helen Date: 03 Sep 03 - 04:37 AM Count me in as well, please. I *did* volunteer to be SSS (Secret Santa's Secretary) this year, but I'm not desperately attached to the idea of doing it. I'm open to negotiation though, Cat, if you want me to do it. Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: sian, west wales Date: 03 Sep 03 - 05:22 AM And me - I'm up for it. I had great fun pulling my Santa's leg (eh, mooman? Can I analyse handwriting, or what???) last year. And Liz - I LOVED the IDEA of the picture frame, even if those nasty nasty nasty people at the 'orrible 'orrible Post Office were siding with The Grinch two years ago and the actual item never arrived. It IS the thought that counts ... and all the fun in playing the game! But please let me have someone who gives good hints! sian |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Kim C Date: 03 Sep 03 - 07:55 AM Personally I like the hints. Both times my Santas used my hints and sent me some very delightful things I wouldn't have thought to pick out for myself. |

Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Jeri Date: 03 Sep 03 - 09:16 AM Open mike, I know somebody's secret santa had a stroke during the SS time period, but I don't know if he was yours. I really think there should be some sort of back-up plan such as a squad of contingency santas. I'm guessing that a few people would rather buy 2 people a gift than see someone go without. One other thing - please, if you know your gift's gonna get there in less than a week (in-country mail), don't send it in October or November! Can we please at least aim for Christmas? I'm in. I am going to start looking early this year. I am going to start looking early this year. I am going to start looking early this year. I am going to start looking early this year... |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: GUEST,SSS at work Date: 03 Sep 03 - 09:39 AM Hi Last year there was a few people who offered to buy more than one pressie and I am hoping that some more people will volunteer...however this people will be known only to me and the game should hopefully run smoothly. I only found out post organaization etc about the catter that had a stroke and we rallied round and the post were covered. If anyone has any suggestions please PM and also if you want to volunteer to be a standby 2nd santa please let me know. Many thanks SSS |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Sep 03 - 09:49 AM Shopping ahead always works for me, because when faced with the last-minute details around here, adding one more purchase to my strained budget is a challenge. So I'll be finding something (and hoping it suits my Santee!) soon. Having something extra in case a Secret Santa (or their parcel) goes missing isn't a bad idea. Perhaps each continent needs someone who could step into the breach, so remedy of the Santa-faux-pas can happen quickly and not have to span continents. And this might be best handled by another PM to CatsPHiddle, letting her know that in an emergency we have a spare tidbit we can pop in the mail. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa Time Again! From: Tig Date: 03 Sep 03 - 09:52 AM I thought you swore blind after last year you were NEVER going to do the job again :-))). Glad you have decided to change your mind. Even though I thought I would never get a pressie it turned up eventually and was brilliant! Please add me to the list again. Love'n'hugs, Tigxxxxx |
