Subject: RE: Seeking Travel Companion From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 30 Dec 03 - 10:56 AM GUEST, I agree that A Confederacy of Dunces is tempting as a movie subject. In fact, so did some producer. I heard some time ago that a movie was being made of this great book. Haven't heard anything further about it, though. I'm just afraid of the novel-to-movie comedown, though. I'd see the movie just out of curiosity, but with no expectation that it could live up to its glorious antecedent. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: Seeking Travel Companion From: kendall Date: 30 Dec 03 - 01:50 PM Ok, I'm going to get killed for this, but, picture the trunk that the centerboad lives in. When you are in shallow water, you raise the centerboard into the trunk which is shaped like a slot. In deep water, you lower the board to minimize leeway. What's pertinent here is the shape of the trunk. Why can't I just keep quiet... A centerboard cook is a woman! |

Subject: RE: Seeking Travel Companion From: freda underhill Date: 01 Jan 04 - 05:53 AM if he's truly a cereal killer, we need to get one of those Profilers, to examine his ad & determine whether he's a dangerous flake, and what variety. a profiler can read his ad and suss him out. for example, he claims an association with Tom Paxton, Tom Rush, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, etc. obviously living in the past, weak, needing to associate himself with big names, delusions of granola. Claims he has a "The Grammer Guitar", mid-60's, a 1975 Martin D35, a 1999 Guild D40, and my favorite, a 1975 Guild D50." (guitars being a curved and female form) Obviously had a dominant mother figure, and in buying older classic guitars is seeking to subliminally control her, even emulate her, so could be a miso -genist (Japanese form of cereal based on soy products). Has obviously spent time in Japan. Plays a two finger and thumb picking style - has poor table manners, possibly leading to his cereal obsession. Only reveals quirks at later interviews - obviously plans to "soften" his victim prior to revealing his secret needs. May prefer to soak his muesli prior to ingestion. Solution: dangerous flake, delusions of granola, dominant mother, has pent time in Japan, poor table manners and eats Bircher muesli. Anyone you know? fred |
Subject: RE: Seeking Travel Companion From: GUEST Date: 01 Jan 04 - 11:35 AM Sorry if I unintentionally offended, 'troupe...it's all a matter of semantics, eh? jOhn was the first to coin the term 'cereal killer'(see 26 Dec 03 - 1:56 AM), and it was that to which I was referring in 31 Dec 03 - 5:53PM when I expressed appreciation for the sidetrack of puns and plays on words and general buffoonery in which you, me, and a few others participated. I now recognize that you were the first to run with it in your entry 26 Dec 03 - 2:27AM (and a very nice introductory entry, IMO, that required more than two brain cells rubbed together to create). I hope that set the record straight. Happy New Year... |

Subject: RE: Seeking Travel Companion From: freda underhill Date: 03 Jan 04 - 02:06 AM The baby corn asks his mama corn: Where do baby corns come from? Mama says "I told ya before, the stalk brought ya. 2 corn cobs were walking downtown and the first cob noticed that they were being followed by another strange cob everywhere they went. The first cob whispered to the second cob "Don't look know but I think we are being followed by a stalker" |
Subject: RE: Seeking Travel Companion From: John MacKenzie Date: 03 Jan 04 - 02:22 PM We never eat cereals, 'cos cereals have mush And one little bite turns a kid to a lush Oh can you imagine the pain of a Ma To see little junior, act just like his Pa. John |
Subject: RE: Seeking Travel Companion From: Charley Noble Date: 03 Jan 04 - 04:18 PM There may be a kernel of truth in what has been said above about cereal killers, especially after you husk the ears. The essential thing is to remember to remove the corn weevils, a decision which frequently boils down to choosing the lessor of any two weevils... I keep thinking of that poor misguided guest poster, coming here for travel companionship and then being subjected to such a harvest of bad puns. I'm so ashamed... Charley Noble |
