First fone conference with Miss Claudia, a bulldog with a heart if I ever met one. I continue to appreciate prayers that this appeal go according to His plan. It looks to me like a $51,000 bill will soon become a $3,000 bill, max.

Although my REASON for agreeing to this surgery was for the LIFE-saving benefits-- some of which I have been enjoying despite complications-- it is also OK to ENJOY some side benefits I have begun to appreciate, as I get my strength back.

Some of those benefits are reflected in an update of a montage previously linked upthread:

2012-13 Ramp and "Fashion" Forays

A lot more fun in my day, today, than filing the damn medical records we may need to pull from, for the appeal!

TO LIFE--

:~) I have got to get this boxed up crap out of my living room. It is boxed but the thing needs to go to another room out of my sight! Thing is I am not sure where I want it! Oh I know-- the ARCHIVE storage in the way-way-wayback part of the house! LOL, I was gonna put it in my office that I am already feeling like not going into! OK I will ask Hardi to carry it out there for us-- it's too heavy now for me!

Note to self: As advised by an experienced friend, it is all sorted by provider and then by date within those groupings. I noted which ones were originals and which ones copies, and whether I had annotated any of them or left them un-noted/unread. ALso the files that go with them on my LR computer were specified right on the records, in case Hardi needs to know where to look for detailed notes.

Yet to do-- get a printer cartridge and print those computer files, plus relevant emails, and box them into all this as well. Best case-- I never need all of this paper. Worst case-- it is in a handy form to tote off to a lawyer. In between-- CLAUDIA.

Here is Miss Claudia's report on her plan to chop out the first $30,000 of that $51K bill:

I have some good news. I called [the hospital and spoke with Dxxx, the supervisor of Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) insurance for the facility. I asked for a corrected bill reflecting that the covered surgery was performed on 9/13/2012 (not 9/14 as billed), and admission to the facility was on the same day. Dxxx told me that this corrected bill is already 'in the works' and will be filed with BCBS. I asked when I could follow up regarding the payment of the claim. She expected this payment to be finalized around mid March.

Whap! Slash! ZAP!

Answering a question asked upthread, in the US one can get their own Ashley or Claudia via http://www.healthproponent.com/... if one finds that the purchaser of their insurance group's plan has not contracted with Health Advocate or their health system has no Health Navigator.

The hospital's first re-submitted bill seems not to have arrived at Blue Cross so they had to submit it again-- which re-sets the appeals clock (that's good).

Susan, you are looking GOOD. I foresee the day when you will look back and marvel at how well you feel- and ARE! Too bad you had to go through the extraneous stuff but congratulations, for a' that.

The traumatic surgery/complications' memories and phantom, amputee-like sensations are coming to the surface now as the first anniversary approaches. While these are pesky in realtime, they are also the bodymind signal that a significant state of healing has actually occurred. I am told I should plan for two years-plus to feel "well." I do feel/function better in many respects but am trying to be realistic as Year Two begins...

Well I missed this whole thread...what year!

If it helps any, paraphrased here is how I had post-op abdominal pain explained to me:
The nerve supply in the abdomen exists mainly to support digestion, elimination, and the lives of the organs that carry out these functions. Those nerves are pisspoor at accurate transmission of pain. Same in the thorax. That's why people feel like they have indigestion when it's a heart attack, or nausea when the abs are just exhausted from to many sit-ups, or get sharp, debilitating pain ( or roving aches or u-name-it) during healing.

I can't vouch for its accuracy, just that it's how an MD explained it to me.

More physical activity improves the messaging (decreases foolish signals) but it'll likely be months to years until one day you realize you haven't had this or that weird pain for the longest time.

Happily, bad anniversaries do pass. It's good to indulge your emotions a fair bit for the first one--part of processing it all.

Many hugs!

CH,

Well, gosh-- it's my anniversary, isn't it? What a dear you are for asking!!!

I had a great co-counseling session (www.rc.org) Monday AM that blew out a lot of the anger, and all week I have been cleaning like a madwoman-- MIL is here for my annual Fall Cleaning. Most years I clean and then fall back into not cleaning. This year I think I have enogh of a metabolism to keep it up, and to keep the scar adhesions from continuing to grow I need to walk. A lot. Like behind a vacuum cleaner and a dusting rag.

All in all, it's good to be "this side of the dirt." Hardi has a surprise for me for tomorrow-- I think it's being spoiled at a spa-- in honor of the event.

Today is the first anniversary of getting out of the nursing home and starting to rebuild life in this house around wellness, now that thyroid treatment has made such a difference. I'm deeply grateful for all the support that helped me get as far as I have; I still have a ways to go.

Since then, tho, we have found and bought a vacation cottage in the Ohio town where we've vacayed every year since... I dunno, a LONG time. The closing was last week. I bug out with a load of furniture Jan. 3.

I'm madly (and thoughtfully) packing. Doing this the week of Christmas, since we are a clergy couple, is... interesting. (Our wedding was also in what is Hardi's busiest season, so it IS an anniversary project....) We have an open cargo trailer that I will tow down-- hoping we get no precip or snow if we must, and NO RAIN.

A waking insight today was: if I pack things in canvas trunks we already HAVE, the contents will stay DRY (enough) on the open trailer if I FIRST put the contents into re-usable TRASH bags of which we have more than enough!!! I have 3 right off the bat: a huge trunk-shaped item I used to haul pillows in, at my sickest; 2 wedge-shaped, more structured items that zip and can be laid down flat or stood up. The trunk-shaped one can sit on top of furniture. The other two can stand up along the sides to help brace other items.

There is one more piece I may use also, if I can clear a path to it for the MenzCrew: a wide, resin, garbage-can "garage" that could sit at the tongue end, with bagged linens inside of it-- easily fetched out without even taking the thing off the trailer-- it could just stay there till the next trip. (Tall #1 son is meeting me at the cottage to help.)

That next trip will be Hardi and I together in February-- he says flying down to drive back with me, this trip, will not work. That's OK-- a Valentine Vacay Week works!!!

Holiday elf tasks are actually done TOO (I cannot believe it), in time for Xmas Eve. Also cannot believe how far I have come since discharge from the nursing home last Xmas Eve. I'm planning to attend at least one service tonight, maybe both.

Love,

~Susan
