I am scheduled for surgery Thursday, in about 48-odd hours (I'll get the real time tmrw). Today: Packing the bag for Rehab Phase 3, sunshine, outside chores w/dog helping, healing, tear-filled memories long-blocked. All of the above = God and His time. The latest people-thanks are for Jerry and Suzi, who solved a major problem graciously first thing this morning!

RE: Prayers.... I have had a hard time coming up w language for a wider prayer request, but the geese flying over the AM dog-walk w/scooter seemed to clear it up....

This is a surgery it turns out a lot of people have but do not usually talk about.... and that needs to change!!! I know two women locally who had it done, a local friend knows one other, and I believe another Mudcatter once told me about her experience with it. The details are pretty gory so let's not go there right now...

It is a "radical reconstructive surgery" with a 40"-wide, deep-tissue incision... (1) to correct damage done thru a lifetime of untreated hypothyroidism... and (2) to permit resuming typical physical activities of FARM life.

This should take about 10 years off my spine and knees, and may get me on horseback next year, too. It is certainly planned to power more physically-active ministries!

So pls feel free to share that as you think OK... one good way to pray for me is to sing EWTN's "Chaplet of the Divine Mercy" for/with/about me, wherever you may be.     It is a beautiful day outside and the clouds over your house are spectacular....all puffy, silvery with bright blue skies and a cool breeze. If you are home, I hope Father Cootiesniffer will open the curtains for you and maybe a nearby window while you rest and heal. Well, I got to the bottom of the "Jesus, I just can't take this anymore" prayer today.... had a good ole boohoo and affirmed even more strongly that (A) I am NOT supposed to be home yet and (B) my surgeon totally screwed up my aftercare program-- and made sure the insurance will keep making it hard for me to cobble up my own, make-do, "home plan." So I am here asking for prayer-- this time a very focused prayer: that the insurance gates open wide, and that I get into a nursing home ASAP for at least a couple of weeks.

What I tend not to talk about are the messy post-surg details no one should have to deal with-- without either skilled help or a houseful of strong wimminzes.

Finally got into a nursing hm Sunday (ER. admission) w open incion draining, for 6-8 dressing chgs/day. Healing going very slowly.

For a little fun, look up "wound dehiscence" and piciture stuffing half a bunch of banana in where it would be more normal to pull a baby out in a C section. Then, look up "wound vac."

Interesting..I just heard two nurses this weekend talk about wound vac..they were very much for it in some situations. Hope you are getting the care you need and the insurance comes around. mg

My mom wore a wound vac for almost an entire summer maybe 4 years back. They way they help heal the wound is pretty interesting stuff. Hope you are having good luck with it.

I am seriously missing the many departments that support tge excellent nursing care at the nursing home... its hard for one person who is seldom home to get if all done and it is hard to wait 2-3 days for the nurse whe tends the wound vac to get around to me....
