Subject: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Naemanson Date: 26 Sep 02 - 09:09 AM Well, it's finally here. It has been 3 years in the making but Roll & Go is now releasing their first CD, Outward Bound. If you want to get a taste of what is on it you can check out the .mp3 files on our web site at www.rollandgoseasongs.com. Click here If you are further intrigued enough to want a copy for yourself just contact Charlie Ipcar (aka, Mudcatter Charlie Noble) from the website. He will be glad to take your check and send you a copy for your very own. I need to get through September before I can make that decision. If I go I can bring a pile of CD's with me. What is the wit and wisdom on trying to sell things at FSGW. I don't want to tread on anyone's toes or create and odor in anyone's nose. |

Too bad I didn't have any of the promised production copies of Roll & Go: Outward Bound, only my home brewed pre-release limited edition, while I was having such fun singing with folks in San Francisco and Portland, Oregon. Be nice to get some review comments from those who have already had a chance to listen to our pre-release version, rather than tooting our own horn. Remember, it's the only CD that you'll likely find "Yangtse River Shanty" recorded for at least another year-then everyone will be doing it! I did the arrangement and the reworking from a song composed in the 1920's by Hamish Maclaren for the sailor's folk opera SAILOR WITH BANJO. Roll & Go From: wysiwyg Date: 29 Sep 02 - 11:33 PM (aside) On Shackleton's Antarctic expedition (1915???), when they got stuck on the ice and had lost their ship, the crew were each given a 2-lb. limit on personal gear over and above clothes on their backs and an extra pair of socks. Except for the fella who had kept them all sane (???!!??) during the Antarctic winter aboard ship, who had brought what they called a zither-banjo. He was ordered to bring it along. Musta been all Mudcatters from Maine. They turned the ordeal into a Mudcat Gathering. ~Susan |

And it's about time some of you folks visited us in Maine; check out the shanty swap thread at "China Sea Marine Trading" in Portland and join us on 11/23. We're still trying to provoke our nephew into setting a date for an after the wedding celebration in Oz for himself and his new bride, and we are insisting that that date overlap with a 4th Saturday so we can explore the wonders of the Loaded Dog. This weekend five of us caravaned 4 hours up to Houlton, Maine, where Brett spent years growing up, for a concert at their UU Church. Twas a little scary as we crossed the County line and plowed into a major snow squall but we somehow made it to the old Burnham homestead, then whipped into town to set up the lights and sound system in the magnificent old sanctuary-lovely wood beamed ceiling and paneling. And sure enough, about a hundred folks showed up and after persistent coaching helped raise the roof on the choruses and refrains. A really smashing evening, and we even sold a dozen CD's (which is why I'm posting this blurb). The Church members were very pleased, as we divided the gate 50:50 with them after their expenses. We spent the night at the Burnham homestead, finally getting a chance to enjoy the lovely pasta meal Brett's parents had prepared for us, listening to his father's stories and finally dropping into our respective beds around 1 PM. Blasted out of the house after coffee and muffins by 7 AM and now I'm sitting at home again thinking about lunch. This sea music thing can be a whole lot of fun! You probably are referring to the 1st track "Randy Dandy-O" which has "roll & go" in the chorus, and we're pleased to hear you and your new bride were doing some of "that" in your visit to Nova Scotia...;~) "Farewell to Nova Scotia" we learned from a discussion we helped initiate on Mudcat was originally based on a Scottish Napoleonic era poem entitled "The Soldier's Adieu" by Robert Tannahill (1774-1810).
