Lots of British have copied American pop, BW. I've heard the Rolling Stones mention their musical heroes and they were all Americans. And Paul McCartney, for another example, would not deny that the Beatles were very good at copying an aspect of American culture - he would just say something like "It's a cool thing to do, Man".

K-pop is American pop with Korean words, for a final example.

One thing the organisers should be congratulated for anyway. Selecting a heavily ironic reading for Boris Johnson in the Jubilee Service in St Paul’s.

I haven't watched any of these celebrations. If others enjoy it, that's fine by me, but I have been off visiting family , on walks, etc etc etc.

Because my son lives around 4 hours drive away, I have travelled through a fair few towns and villages in the past week and have been struck by how little sign there is of anything happening. You see little knots of houses where five or six together are festooned in flags and bunting, then great stretches of nothing at all. Anecdotally, there seems to be more in shops than private houses. We drove through one village where it seems the (parish?) council had decided a celebration was needed and there was a large flag on every other lamp post - quite literally - but that was very much the exception.

By comparison, when England was in the world cup recently, I would say there were far more individual houses decorated. Still not a majority, but more than 20% I would estimate. Currently, it seems to be in the 1% region based on my travels.

Not a lot happening up here north of the border. City of Edinburgh Council did publish a list of street closures for street parties: only about 10 in the whole metropolis of “greater Edinburgh”. There’s a free concert on in Princes St Gardens this afternoon, but this was only announced earlier in this last week.
We were out celebrating on Friday night, but this was the 50th anniversary of our local rugby club: should have been in 2020, but twice postponed because of Covid. The church minister who said grace before the meal did conclude with “God save the Queen”.
As for last night, we didn’t survive long at the Jubilee concert. Soon switched over to other channels, mainly BBC ALBA, where you could watch in black-and-white! Fyfe Robertson (remember him?) doing a documentary on a visit to the Western Isles: whisky galore an a’ that!

Its entertaining to envision the stereotypical Englishman from a New Yorker Point of view and compare that to the stereotypical Englishman from the point of view of a resident of Mumbai. Multiculturalism is an ever moving changing irrelevant idea from moment to moment. Whether a person is a hooligan in denim or a proper gentlemen in tweed the ideas of multiculturalism is secondary to soul education of all kinds beyond the bounds of nation states, isolationism or religious tradition.

Just caught up with the "highlights" of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant and, if there was any Morris- or clog-dancing, the BBC producer/editor decided not to reshow it. And the closest thing to folk music was Ed Sheeran's folk-pop. In modern England's multicultural diversity, the default culture that people come together with for such events is NOT English but American culture, very sadly.

If you believe me/have been able to see it, how do the U.S. citizens on this thread feel about that?

I'm plumping for caesium. Yes, I can see it now. The divorcees William and Kate can't be involved. Charles, now in his eighties, won't be allowed out of his nursing home. Prinny Anne will be running a geriatric horse-riding school on the plains of Outer Mongolia. Boris Johnson will have been in jail for the last eight years, so he's out of it. Harry will be US president, so he won't be able to make it either.

So the Caesium Jubilee will have her maj at the helm...and the whole show will be run by...


Fergie and Nicholas Witchell! Can't wait!

These are not based on the royal family alone.
A quick check online will tell you:

Well. I was at Imperial College at the same time as Brian May. I think that he's a superb rock guitarist and I think he and he alone has earned the right to decide on his axes. We have enough cittern and other plucked thingie players, and long live the diversity. I like both varieties and lots in between and I'm not bothered whether they're English, American, Madagascan or Faroese as long as they make a good noise.

(And you could at least accept by now that I genuinely hate imperialism - be it Nazi, British, or any other.)
