Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw - Change of Plan - UPDATE 12 JAN 2011 From: Rapparee Date: 13 Jan 11 - 04:01 PM I got this in an email and I immediately thought of Spaw: > A fart is a pleasant thing, > It gives the belly ease, > It warms the bed in winter, > And suffocates the fleas. > > A fart can be quiet, > A fart can be loud, > Some leave a powerful, > Poisonous cloud > > A fart can be short, > Or a fart can be long, > Some farts have been known > To sound like a song...... > > A fart can create > A most curious medley, > A fart can be harmless, > Or silent, and deadly. > > > A fart might not smell, > While others are vile, > A fart may pass quickly, > Or linger a while...... > > A fart can occur > In a number of places, > And leave everyone there, > With strange looks on their faces . > From wide-open prairie, > To small elevators, > A fart will find all of > Us sooner or later. > > But farts are all bad, > Is simply not true- > We must never forget....... > Sweet old farts like you! |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw - Change of Plan - UPDATE 12 JAN 2011 From: Ebbie Date: 14 Jan 11 - 11:17 AM A severe aside here. "Our new senator, Mr. Manchin, is not pleased." Janie Janie, Manchin impressed me when I saw and heard him on a panel recently so I went looking for his vitals. Alas, I am no longer impressed. i doubt I will ever understand why it is that bright, decent, well-meaning people can disagree so radically on what needs to be done. |
Subject: UPDATE 14 JAN 2011 From: katlaughing Date: 14 Jan 11 - 11:29 AM Good news...no fever and he was moved to a private acute care hospital yesterday at 4p. Karen was there with him until about 8 or 9p when she went home. He is alert and aware enough to know about Ted Williams, the homeless radio voice guy. He is in ICU in private room, really nice, with sliding glass doors. All docs, etc. came in and talked with them about what the plan is from now on, for getting him better, etc. AND, they listened to Karen and Pat. He will move to a regular private room in a couple of days if all goes as planned. No laptop available, though, much as they'd like. I told Karen we'd work some Mudcat Mojo on her work as she's having trouble with the leave of absence people at work, but will get it worked out. He is doing well with CPAP and is very alert and anxious to get to work to go home. Thanks, kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw - Change of Plan - UPDATE GOOD NEWS From: Little Hawk Date: 14 Jan 11 - 11:58 AM He's alert? Ye Gods! I fear what may happen next! ;-) The medical staff should keep a very close eye on this situation. |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw - Change of Plan - UPDATE GOOD NEWS From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Jan 11 - 01:48 PM She should discuss this with the folks in Human Resources, who should have a comprehensive understanding of the Family and Medical Leave Act. Under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), most Federal employees are entitled to a total of up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for the following purposes: SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw - Change of Plan - UPDATE GOOD NEWS From: katlaughing Date: 14 Jan 11 - 03:41 PM Funny, Donuel.:-) SRS, thanks. She's been there several times in the past. It is mostly a deal of papers, tons of them, which have to be filled out every time she wants to request a day off under FMLA because she has asked for it as needed, not in a lump amount. That, and the people in HR, who have to approve it, are really rude/snotty, according to Karen. We had the papers when Rog broke his foot and they tried to make us use it while waiting for Workers Comp. The paper work is unbelievable, but it's still good it's available. Sorry, I wasn't clear about the laptop. Karen just said she wished she could get him one to use while in there.:-) Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw - Change of Plan - UPDATE GOOD NEWS From: Rapparee Date: 14 Jan 11 - 09:35 PM I was going to mention FMLA but SRS beat me to it. And there's no reason for HR to be snotty and rude about it -- it's FEDERAL LAW, not some benefit given by the employer. Actually, there's no reason to be snotty and rude to people at work at anytime. Angry and/or murderous, perhaps, but not impolite. Remember, ALWAYS wash your hands well after strangling someone because they might have been carrying germs that could make you sick. It sounds to me like Karen's employer is just trying to make it hard to use FMLA Leave. And she should find out when it "resets" itself -- on January 1 or one year from the date it is first used. If the employer's policy is based on a calendar year (resets January 1) then she started new and fresh when it became 2011. |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw - Change of Plan - UPDATE GOOD NEWS From: Rapparee Date: 16 Jan 11 - 11:06 AM ..."Come hither to me - hither, hither," said Peeleg, with a significance in his eye that almost startled me. "Look ye, lad; never say that on board the Peapod. Never say it anywhere. Captain Ahab did not name himself. 'Twas a foolish, ignorant whim of his crazy, widowed mother, who died when he was only a twelvemonth old. And yet the old squaw Tistig, at Gayhead, said that the name would somehow prove prophetic. And, perhaps, other fools like her may tell thee the same. I wish to warn thee. It's a lie. I know Captain Ahab very, very well; I've sailed with him as mate years ago and as cabin boy before that; I know what he is - a good man - not a pious, good man, like Bildad, but a swearing good man - something like me - only there's a good deal more of him than I have, if thou takest my drift. Aye, aye, I know that he was never very jolly; and I know that on the passage home, he was a little out of his mind for a spell; but it was the sharp shooting pains in the bleeding stump of his manhood that brought that about, as any one might see. I know, too, that ever since he lost his, ah, leg last voyage by that accursed whale, he's been a kind of moody - desperate moody, and savage sometimes; but that will all pass off. And once for all, let me tell thee and assure thee, young man, it's better to sail with a moody good captain than a laughing bad one. So good-bye to thee - and wrong not Captain Ahab, because he happens to have a wicked name and used to have the wickedest, ah, leg in all of Nantucket. Besides, my boy, he has a wife - not three voyages wedded - a sweet, resigned girl, for what else can she now be? Think of that; by that sweet girl that old man has a child: hold ye then there can be any utter, hopeless harm in Ahab? No, no, my lad; stricken, poxed, blasted, if he be, Ahab has his humanities of a sort!" |
