If people relly want Socialism they should pass ammendment to the US Constitution that allow such activities.

What on earth is there in your constitution that's incompatible with Socialism as such?

Indeed. I'm in favour of both socialism and capitalism, and I think it takes a healthy mixture of the two to run a modern society effectively. Matter of fact, that should be obvious by now, but it's apparently not to people who can only think in stark extremes of black and white.

Since I am in favour of both socialism and capitalism, pdq, and do not find them mutually exclusive but find them harmoniously complementary, what does that make me? Am I a "socialist"? ;-) Am I a "capitalist"? ;-)

I am neither. I'm a human being.

"Socialism is a great theory, the only problem with it is it CAN be realized" a witty person once said, and how right I was!

Above entire sentence was writted by Ephraim Kishon in an imaginative Israeli tale wherein he meets an embittered Karl Marx who laments that the only real Communists left are the Chinese

Yeah, it was a long time ago!

I see what you mean Amos. You think QWB is even more intellectually challenged than you.

Where is this impeachment you said would happen?

Thanks, pdq. And here is the question to your answer: "Richard Nixon, for getting term limits on the Presidency." Bunnahabhain 9:56

Yes, I got I wrong, Presidential term limits came in in 1948, not with Nixon. I can't figure out for the life of me what the other thing I was thinking of at the time, but it was really profound, or something like that.

I did not say it would happen, Dickey head. I said it should happen, and I reported on many voices who were sounding off with similar sentiments. I provided pointers to voters in many states who felt strongly that it should happen. None of that was a prediction, merely a hope.

And the hope is still present; but not with a high estimate of probability.

David Rice Atchison was technically president for one day.
While president, he did not embarrass us...he slept.

I was born right in the middle of the great depression. FDR saw what had to be done and he did it. Can you see what would have happened if he had not been so courageous?
What the republicans said about the depression and what FDR said sums it all up for me.
Republicans..."This depression will cure itself in the long run."
FDR..........."People don't EAT in the long run."

Neither Hoover nor any other republican had a clue what to do, and actually, FDR came in without a plan of his own. He simply knew that something HAD to be done, so he called in people who DID know what to do.
I and my siblings ate because my father had a job with the WPA, and that was just the beginning which you wouldn't be interested in I'm sure.

Here is an old quote from the greatest republican, Abe Lincoln. When he was asked which is more important, labor or capital, he said "Capital is the result of labor, therefor, labor is more important." I'm too lazy to look it up so I paraphrased him.

Well, since "supply-side" economics was put into place, capital has been the only thing that mattered. Ingenuity and hard work has very little value.
It's hard for me to find anything positive to say about Ronald Reagan.

The white house chef was on "Today" this morning. She revealed that Bush likes grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch, or peanut butter and honey on cinnamon-raisin bread. That's the first positive thing I've ever heard about him. Probably the last.

Bush Jr. positively set us back decades on foreign relations and on domestic policy issues (by debt burden).

At least one site says the David Rice Atchison President for a day story is a myth.

It appears that all a politician has to do to get himself or herself branded a "socialist" is to try to do something both essential and decent for the population at large rather than merely catering to the wishes of corporate special interest groups.

All a politician has to do to be branded socialist in the USA is to be left of George Bush or fundamentalist religions.
