Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 21 Feb 04 - 09:07 AM Quoting my friend Brer Rabbit: "And the tar baby, he don't say nuthin." Got ole Brer Rabbit mad enough that he poked that tar baby right in the eye. Don't hold your breath waiting for a response, Clint. Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: Frankham Date: 21 Feb 04 - 09:28 AM The fundamentalists both Christians and Jews are playing a terrible cat and mouse game in Israel. The Fundamentalist (so-called) Christians are supporting Zionism because they say it is prophesied in the Gospels that Israel will prevail over their enemies. They say Jesus will return to smite dead anyone who doesn't believe in him including Jews. Jews don't believe in Jesus. They believe in the Messiah but some in Israel are courting the Fundamentalist Christians because they want support for their country and the building of the wall. Both have a radically different idea of the Messiah. The Fundi-Christians believe that their leader will destroy the Jewish Messiah and the Jewish orthodox people believe that their Messiah will prevail over Jesus. Two elements in bed in Zionism with contradictory outcomes. How crazy is that? As to the nonsense about Christian prayers at football games, Tar-heel's points are simplistic and naive. I agree with Joseph Campbell who says that Christianity is basically a pacifist religion which has been hi-jacked by fundamentalist crazies. Frank |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: Frankham Date: 21 Feb 04 - 09:33 AM Also, the US was not founded under any Christian principles that are being thrown around recklessly by Fundamentalist Pseudo-Christians. Jefferson, Franklyn, Tom Paine, even Washington, and many of the founding fathers would be appalled at this notion. Tar_Heel, check out what they really believed. One thing for certain, they believed in separating church and state. I will say this about Jesus. He would be called first a "communist", or a "terrorist" and probably thrown into jail by an Ashcroft court. Frank |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: GUEST,Ebbie Date: 21 Feb 04 - 10:44 AM I infer that pre-game prayers plead for a "good game on both sides and that no one be hurt." I got to wondering about prayers before a war or individual battles. Does one pray for the ability to fight well and that no one be hurt? |

Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: dianavan Date: 21 Feb 04 - 01:48 PM Israel is a state of mind. The moment it became a material state with weapons and borders it became corrupt. War is not about religion. Its about the land and the resources. When one nation thinks it has a right to deprive others of their homes and basic freedoms, the conflict begins. Messiah? Christ? Same thing - a hope and a dream of oppressed people. Mohammed and Jesus? Great teachers who tried to make their world a better place. d |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: Peace Date: 21 Feb 04 - 02:01 PM This thread may be mistitled. The silent majority needs to determine who will speak for it. What we really require is a good translator. I'm reminded of the following . . . What this country needs is a good five cent cigar! Well, we have one, but it costs a quarter. Ya see, what this country really needs is a good five cent nickle. Will Rogers (I think). |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: GUEST,Clint Keller Date: 21 Feb 04 - 02:24 PM You're no doubt right Jerry. Accordiing to my research those Christian public prayer advocates never do answer that question. & the Uncle Remus quote is brilliant. brer clint |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: pdq Date: 21 Feb 04 - 02:39 PM brucie...I think the quote is from this guy... Eddie "The Old Philosopher" Lawrence... A veteran of the Borscht Belt circuit, Lawrence quickly found his niche with his character the Old Philosopher, scoring several comedy hits and making "Is that what's bothering you, bunkie?" |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: dianavan Date: 21 Feb 04 - 03:02 PM Why would you pray to God for help? Isn't that a bit blasphemous? I mean he already gave you everything you need. Pray to those who have walked before you. The spirit of your ancestors will guide you. If you have enough nerve to call his name, make sure it is praise and thanks. In fact, it probably gets down to the best we can do is sing praises and dance jubilantly. I think that would please God. Public prayer? I don't think anyone would want to hear me talking to my grandma. They might go for the singin' and dancin' though. d |

Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 22 Feb 04 - 10:57 AM It's fuc#in' rude! Brucie, there's something wrong with your fucking keyboard. You don't get many penalty goals kicked in church either. McG, surely here at Mudcat we haven't forgotten the immortal hymn: "Drop-kick me, Jesus, through the Goalposts of Life"? Alaska Mike: Right on the money! |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: Art Thieme Date: 22 Feb 04 - 11:35 AM To paraphrase what I get out of a quick reading of the first post in this thread, "LIVE AND LET LIVE. Lower your voice and be civil. With respect, stay out of each others faces. And try not to piss on people's lawns when you come out of a night game at Wrigley Field." That's cool with me ! Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Feb 04 - 06:36 AM Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights Hmmmm. Let me see what religion Tar Heel is... You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Matthew 5.38-41 So he is not a christian... Let there be no injury and no requital. Forty Hadith of an-Nawawi 32 Doesn't seem to be a moslem... Those who are insulted but do not insult others in revenge, who hear themselves reproached without replying, who perform good work out of the love of the Lord and rejoice in their sufferings... are "as the sun when he goeth forth in his might." Talmud, Yoma 23a or a jew... Got it! He is a member of the trollish faith:-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 23 Feb 04 - 07:02 AM That Jesus sounds like another of those bleeding heart liberals. "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you..." |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: dianavan Date: 23 Feb 04 - 07:46 PM Thats what I said before: A bleeding heart is sacred. My mother-in-law(ex) had a picture of the Celtic Christ hanging in the parlour. The poor guy had a big heart with blood dripping from it. d |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: GUEST Date: 24 Feb 04 - 05:00 AM Thought this bit was absolutely hilarious: " Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek.." Well tar_heel, if that is indeed the case - according to the teachings of Jesus - they ain't Christians. |
Subject: RE: BS: time for silent majority to speak up!!! From: GUEST,Teribus Date: 24 Feb 04 - 05:19 AM MGOH English Football matches - I thought that the Hymn "Abide with me" was always sung at the F.A. Cup Final - Anything changed? |
