The fundamentalists both Christians and Jews are playing a
terrible cat and mouse game in Israel. The Fundamentalist
(so-called) Christians are supporting Zionism because they say
it is prophesied in the Gospels that Israel will prevail over
their enemies. They say Jesus will return to smite dead anyone who
doesn't believe in him including Jews. Jews don't believe in Jesus.
They believe in the Messiah but some in Israel are courting the
Fundamentalist Christians because they want support for their
country and the building of the wall. Both have a radically
different idea of the Messiah. The Fundi-Christians believe
that their leader will destroy the Jewish Messiah and the
Jewish orthodox people believe that their Messiah will prevail
over Jesus. Two elements in bed in Zionism with contradictory
outcomes. How crazy is that?

As to the nonsense about Christian prayers at football games,
Tar-heel's points are simplistic and naive. I agree with Joseph Campbell who says that Christianity is basically a pacifist religion
which has been hi-jacked by fundamentalist crazies.

Also, the US was not founded under any Christian principles that
are being thrown around recklessly by Fundamentalist Pseudo-Christians.

Jefferson, Franklyn, Tom Paine, even Washington, and many of the
founding fathers would be appalled at this notion. Tar_Heel,
check out what they really believed. One thing for certain,
they believed in separating church and state.

I will say this about Jesus. He would be called first a
"communist", or a "terrorist" and probably thrown into
jail by an Ashcroft court.

I infer that pre-game prayers plead for a "good game on both sides and that no one be hurt." I got to wondering about prayers before a war or individual battles. Does one pray for the ability to fight well and that no one be hurt?

Israel is a state of mind.

The moment it became a material state with weapons and borders it became corrupt.

War is not about religion. Its about the land and the resources. When one nation thinks it has a right to deprive others of their homes and basic freedoms, the conflict begins.

Messiah? Christ? Same thing - a hope and a dream of oppressed people. Mohammed and Jesus? Great teachers who tried to make their world a better place.

Why would you pray to God for help? Isn't that a bit blasphemous? I mean he already gave you everything you need. Pray to those who have walked before you. The spirit of your ancestors will guide you. If you have enough nerve to call his name, make sure it is praise and thanks. In fact, it probably gets down to the best we can do is sing praises and dance jubilantly. I think that would please God.

Public prayer? I don't think anyone would want to hear me talking to my grandma. They might go for the singin' and dancin' though.
