Yes I'd like to do Old-Timey Piano Backup in the same slot if it's still available. Every day except Wednesday. Thanks. And 2-4 is perfect for Musicals on Friday.

Hope this works for the Old-Time Piano backup:
Friday, Dance Hall, noon
Saturday, Dance Hall, 5 PM
Sunday, Dance Hall, 5 PM.

The Dance Hall is booked all day on Thursday except at 9 AM. I don't know if there's another venue with a piano.

Musicals in Carpeted Room, on Friday 2-4 PM

Hi Joe,

I'd like to schedule a "Songwriter's Gathering" in Yellow 22 at 4pm on Thursday and Friday. Maybe they should be "Songwriter's Gathering I" and "Songwriter's Gathering II."

Confirmed, although in order to honor all who are anal about the use of apostrophes, I'm calling it "Songwriter Gathering I and II"

Robert Rodriquez is hosting a workshop titled Soldier, Sailor, Tinker, Tailor: songs and stories of work & occupations. It's Friday in the Carpeted Room, noon-2 PM.

Since this is a workshop about occupations and "soldier" is an occupation that many of us have experienced, Robert hopes that somebody will sing John McCutcheon's "Christmas in the Trenches," about the Christmas Truce of 1914.

If this is a song you sing, think about attending Robert's workshop.

-Joe-

Jerry & Bev volunteered to sing "Christmas in the Trenches."

first time coming to this camp. not sure which room this would be best for, or what time would be best. please advise.

thanks

Hi, Ryan
I put you in the Mirrored Room on Thursday at 4 PM. If if goes well, you might want to schedule a daily session - you can do that while you're at camp.

From: Joe Offer

From the Harmony List:

Well, the most interesting ballad for a two-hour workshop would have
to be the Geste of Robin Hood. I know: nobody knows it. YET.

The ballad with the most versions might be the Twa Sisters, or the
Twa Brothers. Cruel Mother is somewhat limiting, as the main real
difference is in the Christian or non-Christian afterlife she'll
have. Lord Thomas and Fair Eleanor has many versions (the Brown
Girl) and Thomas the Rhymer has different verses; we can each choose
our favorites; Hind Horn is equally a long, long story of which we
may sing similar but different slices.

You might get the most surprises/different versions with The Baffled
Knight,of which everyone may have a favorite version. The tedious
Maid Freed from the Gallows is also widely sung, with several tunes
and rhythms. Our Goodman (Seven Nights Drunk) and Sir Lionel (Wild
Boar in the Woods) are known by many and in many versions.

Something like Barbara Allen might get tiresome, since we all know
the same three versions. Does it have to be a ballad? Frankie and
Johnny has many versions and endings. How about a pretty tight
theme, such as crossdressing women or Robbers or Childbirth or
Discourteous knights? Or songs with "cruel" in them?

Looking forward to whatever you pick.

Sadie

I'd like to change the location for Saturday swing sing at 2pm from Ruebens to the Study Center. I prefer the close cozy and "studious" atmosphere. Thanks!

P.S. Regarding your request for "where or when" I'd have to know "what and how." Alas I'm limited to songs I know I can play and sing. This workshop will be more of a group sing a long, or play along with a chance to try solos depending on who, what, where and when :) Thanks for understanding.

Hi, Karen. I made the switch. Maybe I'll get up the gumption to serenade you with "Where or When."

OK, so I'm leaving for camp mid-day Tuesday, but I'll keep online workshop signups open until late Tuesday night. I hope the WiFi is strong at camp this year, so I can make last-minute corrections without having to go into Santa Rosa for an Internet connection. From Wednesday on, please use the yellow stickies on the workshop board at camp. See you there.

Hi Joe!
Is it just me or is the link faulty? When I click on Sunday it gives me Saturday. I had success opening the Thurs, Fri, and Sat schedules.

Thanks! And by the way, yes I do think you are a wonderful human being. I liked chatting with you on the way down the hill last year. I wonder if I will recognize you this week! We will see!
Jennifer

Guess it's time for me to hit the hay. I pasted a Saturday schedule into the Sunday block. Certainly not the first mistake I've made on these. Thanks for catching it, Jennifer. It's fixed now.

Hi there Joe!

If you are still about today ... Can we move the Spirit Short Songs in the Mirror room on 12/31 @ 4:00 to 2:00 instead? Want to sing the songs of Faithy at 4:00! And! I wrote 32 small songs this year and looking forward to singing them on the last day of the year ~ just not at the same time as remembering Faith and the songs she sang!

If need be, I can change it at Camp?! Thanks so much for all you do with this pre-camp and at camp service! Pre-camp hug Joe! See you soon!

Well, I'm still online, but at camp. It was 39 degrees in Santa Rosa, but 32 here at camp tonight. I'm gonna need that hug.
Schedule changed. Not a problem.

I am sure a good time was had by all....I went to this camp when it was held near Boulder Creek between Santa Cruz and Calistoga south of S.f. at two adjacent camps called Camp Harmon and Camp Campbell. Faith Petric was alive and well and gracing us all with her presence. How inspiring!!
She was central to the San Francisco Folk Music Club Fearless Leader and Patron Saint. Her legacy lives on !! Here is the place this camp i held now....looks inviting!!

This Camp is far more hilly than the camp at Boulder Creek, but we do have a bus to help people get around. Faith Petric broke her hip and fell here when she was 95 years old. Her health was never good after that.

This is the workshop leader signup sheet for 2016-17. For 2017-18, click here.
