Oh they are on course to do that. Though they may be the last species standing, except for the ants and cockroaches.

Though I ain't so sure about that, because the ants and cockroaches might be the only live food able to survive the climate.

Granite burger anyone?

Trouble is only about half of the Englishman wants to leave so he is standing in the doorway struggling to decide what to do, while the others are forced to wait.

Now chaps show some repect for high culture..
don't piss youselves laughing..
This is written by an acclaimed published poet...

Take inspiration from our ongoing comedy songs thread..
Why not set it to music...

"A Poem for Tommy Robinson: ‘The Lad of Luton’
by Joseph Charles MacKenzie
The Society Of Classical Poets March 22, 2019

Though all the world should grovel and bend
To the minions of deepest hell,
Our days of glory shall not end
Where brave men fought and brave men fell!
We’ll take a stand to save our land
And march with the Lad of Luton!

Let cowards crawl to the godless Huns,
The head-chopping offspring of Cain,
Who rape our daughters, slay our sons,
The earth with Christian blood to stain!
We’ll take a stand to save our land
And march with the Lad of Luton!

We’re done with those who kiss the feet
Of deviants and desert rats:
Westminster’s greedy, false elite
Of self-enriching bureaucrats!
We’ll take a stand to save our land
And march with the Lad of Luton!

Invading hordes shall not replace
Us lionhearted British folk,
Nor shall a German despot place
Our neck in Europe’s Muslim yoke!
We’ll take a stand to save our land
And march with the Lad of Luton!

The reign of truth and right is nigh,
From every belfry let it ring!
Take up the torch and hold it high,
To light the way for Christ our King!
With Him we’ll stand and save our land,
And march with the Lad of Luton!

©Joseph Charles MacKenzie

no, some people believe that, some people believe Margaret Thatcher was the greatest PM that England ever had.

live with it. you won't change them. its not compulsory to have anything to do with them.

somtimes, like thatch, they gain power. paying attention and arguing publicly with them makes this more likely, because it increases their profile and importance, and gives them a platform to spout bollocks.

stiff upper lip and give them a deaf 'un.

Thatcher won one election because people did not see how awful she would be, she won the others because of Galtieri.

No Big Al, we cannot stand idly by. Our grandparents faced down Mosley's thugs, our parents faced down Powell's. Hate always has to be confronted.

That's not what I'm saying.

Since Mosley, each generation has produced a cadre of intractable right wing thugs.

Since they don't believe in democracy or free speech - the debating platform is merely a platform for them to perform on.
THey should be debarred from it.
They are a vexation to the spirit.
Shun them. We need to make them social isolates.

Quite correct. She topped the poll for the greatest postwar Prime Minister, beating Churchill.

Do you think corbyn will ever reach such dizzying heights?

They also have a tame sewer press pushing their foul agenda, as of course Mosley did for a while, and the Express was quite favourable towards Powell, although the pre-Murdoch Times did condemn him.

You are right, you cannot any more ignore these people. They must be confronted.

That particular fantasy was proved to be rubbish the first time it was aired. The passage of time merely further highlights the stupidity of the assertion. I suggest Enid Blyton.

Iains - Her international pals were mostly irrelevant to her govt's negative impact on provincial towns and coucil estates.

I know, I observed it first hand...

One significant indicater of the decline of living standards and prospects for lesser educated young men my age,
was the increasingly noticable presence of heroin addiction in our communities..
and the epedemic of petty crime that supported it..

Life conditions for ordinary British folks just got nastier within her first term in office...

I am a rigorously objective thinker and talker,
so if I state something as 'fact', it will stand up to examination...

You may very well dispute the causes, but the effects in reality were measurable..

I've got to agree - she was very transparent and relatively honest about what she intended to do.

The thing was, even her fellow conservatives never realised how extreme and radical her views on economic reform were. But she made no secret. I was amazed when people asked - what is she up to?

I knew from day one where it was all headed. When someone cares so littlr for the welfare of British citizens - was it at all likely she would give a tinker's turd about folks in South America.

One of her first victims was a minister who got sacked, he was on a mission to Israel.
Does the the new PM have open mind about foreign policy? he was asked.
Not really open, more sort of vacant....., was ths reply that ended his career.

Thatcher arrived at a particular point in the economic cycle where vast changes were already in train. These changes were occurring all over western Europe and the US.
"By the 1980s, the Rust Belt became what the Dust Bowl had been to an earlier generation—a symbolic name for a devastating economic change ..."

Coal mining, heavy industry,Textiles all decayed because widgets could be imported at less cost than home manufacture. Coupled with deregulation under Reagan and Thatcher Big Bang and globalism took off.
Thatcher was as much a slave to her times as she created those times.
The genie does not go back in the bottle. The problems, solutions and collateral damage was not just in the UK.

Blaming Thatcher for a worldwide de industrialization cannot be substantiated.

But she can be blamed for ruthlessly riding the wave...

Discarding vast sectors of British citizens as expendable...

Incentivising greed and exploitatation of the weakest for the most selfish in our nation......

'England pre EEC , pre Thatcher was a disaster area'. I seem to have heard that somwhere that in close proximity quite recently.

I've posted this before, I may well post this in the future, Margret Thatcher waa the first UK politician to deal with the fact that a post empire GB was over industrialised. When we had an empire we had a captive market. A market to which we could supply and no one else could. When we lost the empire we lost that captive market and we had no one to sell to. We had too much production and no one to sell to. Maggie. bless her, tried to address this. Lefties hate her, I wonder if they even realise how the left's anti empire adgenda resulted in the post empire industrial collapse.

you can wonder about political history theories as much as you like..

Don't know anything about you or your career,
but I'm sure middle class historians didn't suffer as much under thatcher,
as my dad and the rest of the work force
when the only major factory employer in town was suddenly closed down...

..and yes he did get on his bike eventually..
10 miles each way cycling in all weathers along a busy dangerous dual carriageway,
working in a notoriously bad conditions factory run by some of the most abusive managers
in the west country...

That probably helped send him to an early cremation..

The heat in that sweatshop factory wasn't much cooler..

to be honest we've heard all this crap innumerable times.

And now theres two lots of economic geniuses parroting it.   no doubt both just as clever as the monetarists who engineered the destruction of nearly 30% of the manufacturing capacity in a single year.

the trouble is i lived in the midlands. the factory i woreked in had a an order book that stretched seven years ahead, my father in law in the hosiery trade worked in several factories, but up to the mid 70' s had order books stretching out three years.

now there are two smoking guns. one in the hands of the EEC . Our entry to which was expertly negotiated by Heath. The other in the hands of the thatcher approach to economic policy.

Both of them going - not me guv! It was the way the world turned, we were powerless, tools of cruel circumstance. Nowt to do with us.

To which the only sensible response is - bumholes!

Pfr I've enjoyed reading your posts re tech stuff and other subjects. I don't want to fall out. but. Under Thatcher I was working as a scaffolder. It was my experiences as a building worker that politicised me. That is what made me a conservative. It was only later that I discovered that my father was a leftie. His brother, my uncle Doug, was actually a member of the militant tendancy although I didn't know that until a lot later. My point is that the factors that resulted in your dad's predicament originated a long time before Maggie got elected. You blame her. OK. But a whole lot of stuff went on before.

What a quaint anglophobic constructiuon. I look forward to seeing links to supporting documentation. Not that I expect to see any.

If it were to be true what explains the same industrial decline, decay, unemployment and drug use seen in the US, Germany and France? All of which is documented in abundance.
There are arguments that can be applied to make the UK a special case, but they are merely local modifiers of an inevitable process.
If young emerging markets produce a cheaper widget they will drive older uncompetitive industries to the wall. From heavy industry to textiles to leatherworks, if someone produces the same for a cheaper price they will take market share and you will cease to exist. Economic reality unless government subsidies exist.

Trump represents the worst of America. There seems to be a rule in every country someone representing the worst of it will rise to power and prominence.

But it doesn't last. But the best will.

Pete Seeger was born 100 years ago today. America's OK.

Britain, or rather, England, is going through a sick time now, but that won't last either.

some things aren't 'widgets'. they depend on maintaining a skilled work force.

you can't buy a viyella shirt or an Aveling Barford dumper truck nowadays.

you can still buy the trashy make of car that are so badly made they have contributed to the premature deaths of two of my family.

the wonderful standards maintained and regularly championed in these threads never have seemed that bloody marvellous to me. i think standards were higher when we set them ourselves.
