Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Metchosin Date: 29 Mar 04 - 10:27 PM I mildly disapprove of digital clocks. They destroy the sense of completeness within a day and fail to exhibit the relative proportionality of blocks of time, both past and anticipated. Analog time is more holistic and inevitably brings us both closure and the promise of new beginnings and is in accord with the inevitable cycles of mother nature and the universe. Digital time is linear, military time and speaks by its very nature to a countdown preceeding an explosion. In fact, digital time has no capacity to express renewal and hope. |
Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Metchosin Date: 29 Mar 04 - 10:28 PM Digital time is too self important it has no capacity to be approximate. |
Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Metchosin Date: 29 Mar 04 - 10:38 PM I also mildly disapprove of people who haven't realized a Gibson dreadnaught makes a very nice case for a Taylor parlour guitar. You just have to saw the Gibson in half, hollow out the neck and apply hinges and a clasp. They usually sound better lined with velour as well. |

Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: CarolC Date: 30 Mar 04 - 12:00 AM After three minutes of Don Cherry, you can piss up a rope? I almost enjoy Don Cherry. But he's been pretty tame lately since they put the seven second delay on him. Except he looks even more frustrated now than before. |
Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Mar 04 - 09:01 AM "I mildly disapprove of people who have to have mayonaise to make anything taste good." As a former caterer/cook I wholeheartedly agree - I despise people who smother their food in sauces, chutneys, spices and seasonings before they've even had the good grace to taste it - people for whom a meal is not a meal unless it has a 2inch layer of tomato ketchup over it, or a salad isn't a salad unless the tomato slice is going under for the third time in a sea of dressing. If you want tomato ketchup for dinner, I'll do you a plate of tomato ketchup. If you want salad soup, I'll do you a bowl of gaspachio soup, but for heaven's sake, find out what food really tastes like before you drown it in glop! I'm not that fond of tomato in every salad either but that's another rant! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Mar 04 - 09:52 AM The design of most magazines. Here are my gripes: * You can't find the table of contents without thumbing past 20 or so pages of ads. * The table of contents, although it would easily fit on one page, is spread over several pages because it has to share each page with more ads. * The titles of the articles, as shown in the table of contents, do not correspond in any obvious way to the blurbs on the front cover. * The apparent relative importance of the articles as shown in the table of contents has no relationship to the size and apparent importance of the blurbs on the front cover. * Even after you find the table of contents, and find the page number of the article you want to read, it's still hard to find the article because most of the pages don't have page numbers. (They don't want to mess up their beautiful ads by placing page numbers on them.) * Even after you find the FIRST page of the article, you see that it says "Continued on page—" at the bottom, and then you have the same problem all over again. * When you finally figure out how long the actual article is—the one whose blurb on the cover attracted your attention in the first place—it's often disappointingly short, and not worth the price of the magazine. This is why I rarely buy magazines off a newsstand. Come to think of it, my disapproval is more than mild. |
Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: GUEST,KB Date: 30 Mar 04 - 10:18 AM I disapprove of Victoria Rowland's mother - because she "disapproves" of my hair. Hah! A woman of no taste and even less discretion (me not her...). |
Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: GUEST,Martin Gibson Date: 30 Mar 04 - 11:44 AM Taylor Takemine, I wouldn't be surprised if you use mayonaise as a sexual lubricant. |

Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Kim C Date: 30 Mar 04 - 01:41 PM I mildly disapprove of people who don't know themselves. Perhaps "pity" is a better word. |
Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Mar 04 - 06:45 PM Here's another neat thing to do with Gibson guitars: Remove the strings and the tuning machines. Build a cockpit in the sound hole and mount a mast from the bridge and saddle area. Install a rudder in the tuning head area. Add a keel on the back and a bowsprit from the end pin hole. Add sails and rigging. You now have a neat little sailboat which can be crewed by a trained guinea pig or manuevered by radio control, and that horrible plunking and twanging sound is gone too! - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Joe_F Date: 30 Mar 04 - 07:17 PM Jim Dixon: Confine yourself to magazines that contain little or no advertising, so that you are paying for them yourself. Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: GUEST,emily rain Date: 30 Mar 04 - 10:09 PM i disapprove of michael flatly and neil diamond, and new age dogmatists, and singer-songwriters who never ever sing anyone else's songs (meaning they either repeatedly sing the five good songs they wrote or they sing EVERY song they ever wrote, including the snoozers). whew! my disapproval has sucked the air from the room. i feel faint. |
Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Bill D Date: 30 Mar 04 - 10:48 PM well, golly, emily! I am with you there...here, let me fan you while I tell you of MY disapproval of all those who usurp the word 'folk' to refer to what singer-songwriters do! Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: Little Hawk Date: 31 Mar 04 - 01:26 AM Oh, yeah? Well I mildly disapprove of what you just said! And you and you too! It isn't easy to find magazines with little or no advertising, and it's even harder to find magazines one doesn't have to pay for (quite regardless of the advertising). I notice that sports events cost a lot too, despite the barrage of advertising. So screw advertising!!!! This thread is getting less mild by the minute, and I think Martin Gibson is to blame. Everything he touches turns to shit, to quote a popular expression. :-) I mildly disapprove of his whole lifestyle. - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Who do you mildly disapprove of? From: freda underhill Date: 31 Mar 04 - 11:21 AM stimulated bacon bits... i believe they are the reconstruction of a francis Bacon painting, dipped in salt and chemical number 5829CX34, and then baked to a crisp. no pigs are harmed in their preparation. as a vegetarian 30 years, its so long since i had the original, that i have no desire to replicate it. but then, there are two sorts of vegetarians.... those who eat pretend meat, and those who dont. |

Martin Gibson: Don't hold back! Reminds me of a fellow who went to the Unemployment Insurance Office to file a claim because he was outta work. They asked what he did. He replied, "I'm the boss." They asked him to explain. He said, "I work in the sewer. I fill up a bucket and pass it to the next guy who passes it to the next guy who passes it to the guy who dumps it into the truck."
