I watched him answer a question the other day. He looked so lost and irritated. Then he finally managed to wrap it all up saying that in the end it would make it all more secure. As he said the last he got this real smug look on his face with that little smirk of his.

Momma said: If you can't say something nice, don't say nothin' at all.

Sorry momma!

Interest rates are at an all-time low and this is good? Hell, it's not good for people who have savings in the bank, but can't earn enough on those savings to buy a jar of pickles. Interest rate return on monetary savings is criminally low at the present time. It appears that the Sy$tem doesn't WANT people to save money any more...just run out and spend it all please, and charge the excess on your credit card! Go broke now, pay for it later. Sounds like just what the government and industry like to do with the natural environment.

Not that I blame Bush for that, Larry K, I'm just questioning your line of reasoning.

As for terrorism, the number one effective proponents of that in the World today are the US military, the CIA, the forces of Israel, and the various Palestinian forces opposing Israel. I don't see them reducing their level of it at all. Al Queda is having a little difficulty keeping up with the above parties at the moment, because they are sort of "out of the loop" if you know what I mean...

I guess you're one of those people who only identifies attacks by certain people whom you have labelled as "the bad guys" as terrorism, eh? It's a shame they couldn't all wear black hats and Saddam moustaches so we would know for sure when we saw them, and could cheer and boo accordingly.

People whose families are killed by a rocket or bomb get just as mad when it's fired by an Israeli helicopter or an American jet as they do when it's done by a Hamas guerilla fighter. It's all terrorism.

He doesn't have illicit sex with various female interns and other numerous associates in the Oval Office, or behind the bushes on the White House lawn, or in the elevator between floors, or on top of the dining room table in the green room, or hanging from the chandelier, or in the limousine on the way to the next press conference, or in the closet at the convention center, or while snowboarding at Whistler...

One thing about old Bill, he was never one to miss an opportunity. :-)

I think that George W is an example of propriety in this area that does the nation proud!

Little Hawk - Maybe there is a physical reason for his propriety.

Maybe thats why he chooses to "prove his manhood" in the arena of war.

That's a hell of an over compensation there!
Bill liked the ladies that's for sure.
I think the Pres. is more interested in the good old greenback and the black gold Texas Tea!

Little Hawk:

New home buying is at an all time high which is good for the economy.   The main reason for that is low interest rates.    This is especially good for new home buyers or people with limited funds who want to buy a new home.    When I bought my first home in 1978 (Carter was president) interest rates were 17%.    That made it very hard to make ends meet.    My investments went up about 20-30% last years after two bad years.    This year they are also up.    It you are keeping money in an interest bearing checking account at minimal interest that is your own fault.

All far as terrorism statistics- the numbers are the numbers.   They were in the news a few days ago in a report from the State Department.   The number of international terrorist attacks in 2003 was half of that in 2001 and the deaths from terrorism in 2003 was the lowest levels since 1969.   You can disagree with the numbers but that still doesn't change them.

Little Hawk - Beware of this statement: This is especially good for new home buyers or people with limited funds who want to buy a new home.

It should be qualified with the warning: until interest rates go up or you lose that so-called secure job.

The economy is nothing anyone can predict. If Bush remains in power, investor confidence could reach an all time low. I've already been told that my investments in the U.S. are too unstable and that I should re-invest. I'm not sure how that plays out in real estate but my guess is that the low interest rates are there to bolster a dollar thats in big trouble.

You're right about one thing, Little Hawk, it is not a good idea to let your money sit in a savings account. Our economy does not value saving at all. Better to invest in a retirement savings plan. You will need it sooner than you think. Or maybe look at other options that your bank might have available. If you don't find a satisfying solution - shop around. Believe it or not, banks want your business. They are not doing you a big favour by letting your money sit in their bank. They are, in fact, using it.

Since this whole banking issue has arisen - I would like to caution all of you about how your bank invests your money. Look into it. You may unwittingly be contributing to the war chest. Make sure your funds are invested ethically!

No, Larry K, what I do is invest my funds...because interest rates are so low that it's not worth keeping them in a savings account. Example: about a year ago I invested a substantial amount in gold, because I suspected it would go up. It did...by 20%. I sold that gold a year later and made 20% on that money instead of the 1% the bank would have given me. The deal, old pal, is...buy low and sell high. You just have to buy at the right time (tricky) and then be PATIENT! (most people are not very patient, and they don't have any extra cash because they are in the habit of spending it all as quickly as they make it.)

(By the way, gold isn't worth more since a year ago...the US dollar is worth less. A lot less.)

I understand your point about interest rates, and I do not wholly disagree with it, but do you understand mine? I think a fair return for bank deposits, given a normal situation in society would be from say, 7% to 10% annually. That's why I say that the present rates are criminally low, and are encouraging people not to save money, and are oppressing old retired people who can't afford fancy lawyers and accountants.

Of course there are other options to making money with money.

I was not wholly contradicting what you said, you see, I was offering an alternate viewpoint and modifying it. It is not necessary for one of us to be completely right and the other completely wrong in order to have a worthwhile discussion about something. Quite the contrary.

As for the terrorism, I consider the US armed forces to be engaged in ongoing terrorism of their own which has resulted in the death of a whole lot of people, but you don't. That's where we differ on that one...as I'm sure you are aware. I think the Israelis (and their many opponents) also deal in terrorism on a regular basis...they attack people, seeking to terrify them into submission. That's terrorism. It's been happening since before 1948, in the case of the Jewish-Palestinian conflict. The British authorities in Palestine in the late '40's referred to the Jewish efforts to found an Israeli state as terrorism, because that's exactly what it was. The Jews won. That enabled them to don uniforms and hide themselves behind the fig leaf of a flag and a national government. I'm not impressed. Killing people and taking their land is still terrorism regardless...as are the Arab attempts to eradicate the state of Israel. It's possible for people to live together, given a little sanity and goodwill. Terrorists aren't interested in that approach, and they always say, "Well, they attacked us FIRST, so we're justified in killing them." I don't buy it.

In truth, they couldn't care less about who attacked who first. They care only about winning.

Laary K,

First of all what ever you're smokin', I'd like some... Whew...

You certainly get a gold star fir twisting around disaster into high times....

Under yer guy:

*** the overall number of number (as well as per capita) number of olks who live in poverty has increased over 10%.

*** the number of children who used to get one square meal a day from governemtn programs has been cut by close to 5,000,000.

*** inflation numbers have been so manipulated that real people, who apparently you are not, just rasie their eyebrows when they hear this claim since health insurance has increased 20% under yer guy, perscription drugs have incresed 20% under your guy, local taxes have increased 15% under your guy, etc. So lets get real, pal.

*** states are strapped for cash as a result of the big tax giveaway to the rich under yer guy... Do you have any any idea how many states were effected negatively by yer guy's tax cuts? Like 100% Even yer guy in Califoenia has had to float a $15B bond referendum to cover costs of running California after his guys glutted the budget. Whom pays for that, pal?

Now if you want to turn this thread into a Bush bashing thread, fine. I started it and its fine with me. Even tho I might not have anything real warm and fuzzy to say about yer guy I thought some other folks might but lets keep things in perspective as to yer guys actual accomplishments...

But, hey, nice tie....

Bobert

I think a nice thing about George Bush is that if you're a large American Corporation you can donate tons of cash to his presidential campaign/republican party coffers, and he'll act in your interests, right or wrong, so you can make even more cash. How thoughtful!

He has better judgement re: his afternoon trysts. If he has a hankerin' for some chubby-cheeked noggin at the office, at least he knows how to pick an intern who keeps her mouth shut the rest of the time.

After a while he will get old and he'll . . . yup. He will.

Boy, am I pissed off at the lot of them today. This year. This decade. This century. . . let's see, the U.S. is attacked by 19 men, mostly from Saudi Arabia. So Bush pisses the moslem world off even more when he blasts Afghanistan to hell and back, then goes to Iraq on a fabricated (wild-goose) chase. Now he's aiming at Syria:

The Bush administration announced sanctions against Syria Tuesday, including a ban on exports and a freeze on certain Syrian assets.

In a statement announcing the sanctions, President George W. Bush accused Syria of "supporting terrorism, continuing its occupation of Lebanon, pursuing weapons of mass destruction and missile programs, and undermining United States and international efforts with respect to the stabilization and reconstruction of Iraq ... ."

The sanctions prevent the export to Syria of military or dual-use items and U.S. products others than food and medicine. It also prevents Syrian aircraft from taking off or landing in the United States. U.S. banks must cut ties with the Commercial Bank of Syria due to money-laundering concerns, and the U.S. assets of certain Syrian individuals and government entities will be frozen.

This man has mentally fallen and he can't get up. He grabbed the edge of the world's table cloth and he's pulling the whole damned mess down on top of US.
